  • This ep is fresh off a meeting between my Employee & my CEO (spoiler: both are me.)

If you have a business or a passion project, this episode will offer some opportunities for reflection about the different creative headspaces needed to bring your vision to life. Let's talk employee complaints (when did I agree to these working hours? where's my compensation?), communication strategies between your CEO and employee, and the mindset you need to show up with consistency.

  • Big revelations and unfoldings are happening over here, so let’s get into it! I had the pleasure of spending a couple hours with my friend, Shannon Clarke for an energetic exchange she calls “Unlocking Momentum.” It has been breakthrough-city ever since, and I’m really excited to show up today to share a little bit about what I’m learning along the way.

For those who are interested in body acceptance, body neutrality, and practises of self-love and self-acceptance, this episode will be a must listen. I don’t want to spill it all in the description, but wait until you hear what I found in one of my old journals…

  • The title of this episode offered me a dramatic unlocking and frankly, I needed to spill my guts about it here with you today.

This is an episode about life and personal development, and how we're always on a quest to learn more about ourselves and how to show up to our purpose. I'm sharing something that feels very vulnerable with you today, that I think has the potential to stir up some big feelings and a few a-ha moments. Dive in, my friend!

  • Let’s not pretend it hasn’t been an exorbitant amount of time since I last showed up with an episode of You Might Not Like It. In fact, that’s the entire point of this episode. It’s another chapter in a much bigger story, and as usual I’m inviting you for a front row seat. I have a feeling that this episode will resonate deeply if you and I are in any similar circumstances of feeling out of alignment, or doubtful in your ability to bounce back after a challenging season.

  • There’s a lot more that goes into your money situation than just the dollars in your bank account! Money mindset is something I’ve been exploring in my own personal development journey, which is why I was so eager to jump into today’s conversation with Tessa Paige, who offers financial coaching and mindset work for women who are working towards a feeling of empowerment and the ability to confidently make decisions surrounding their money.

Tessa shares about her experience after a relationship, moving into a corporate job, and realizing that the relief around money didn’t come even after the steady paycheck started to arrive.

We also talk about our money mindset as it relates to running a small business. The two are so connected! While, yes, the goal in a business is to drive money into your pocket, it’s also important for many of us to feel passionate about our impact and the work we’re doing. It’s not always easy to charge for your worth, especially when you’re newer in your business, or when the dollars aren’t exactly flowing in abundantly right now…

This episode will hit you just right if you’ve ever wrestled with a scarcity mindset surrounding money in your business, or if you’ve ever taken an ego hit in reading someone else’s fast-tracked success story.

I love Tessa’s approach on “releasing your timeline.” Your money situation will be completely unique from your neighbour’s, and comparison really does not serve you here. I say this all the time in my group program, CHEER CAMP, but comparison NEEDS context.

  • It’s a pretty cool moment when you see a client go through the exact journey you’ve been setting up in the background for a few years. Since this podcast is essentially one long story of building my second business as a coach and personal development teacher, I felt like I owed it to you to tell this story of the pieces of the puzzle coming together.

In this episode I’m talking about the client’s journey, and why it’s important for you as a business owner to be intentional about what you’re building and how it all fits together.

In my case, how a referral in a FB group directed someone to my website, which lead them to take the Pep Talk Quiz, where my free offering showcased my personality and passion for the work I'm doing. That new lead triggered a series of emails which guided someone who is truly my ideal client to start working with me 1:1 and join my personal development community, CHEER CAMP.

It's true what they say, that a small business owner does a little happy dance in the background after something like that! I really felt the impact of everything I've been creating over the last few years. I also want to bring such a compassionate perspective for those listeners who are at the very beginning of setting up this kind of system -- this is not something you can build in a day. I think this ep will really be a supportive listen for you.

  • Coaching wasn’t something Shannon Clarke went looking for. It started with a therapy session, which offered an invitation for Shannon to explore her inner world and see a different perspective for the world at large. Now, she helps people shed shame, to unravel and REVEAL their inner “wild.”

This episode is SO good for the soul. It’s supportive, encouraging, and includes a beautiful story of bravery and passion in business.

Perfect for you today if you’re feeling lost, or if you’ve been suppressing your dream for fear that it could never happen, or simply if you’re curious about what a coach’s path could look like! I love how Shannon speaks about trusting the process and resisting the need for a niche, or external validation.

  • Settle in and let’s just chat. I’m bringing you inside my business today in hopes that it’ll spark something in you that you can apply to yours! That’s what this podcast is all about: a soft place for small business owners to land when they’re in any stage of the journey.

In case that’s too vague, I’m talking about my Tiktok experiment and the video that’s almost at 1M views, my funk that took me out of my growth mindset and into scarcity for a hot minute, what I’ve learned from collaborating with other small business owners, and how my life has been taken over by book reports, spelling tests, and swimming lessons.

Perfect for a long drive, a workout, a walk, to have on in the background while you’re working, or while you’re power cleaning your kitchen. Enjoy!

  • It scared me that I could see myself staying in the same place, strength-wise, for the next thirty years plus years. I started 2023 unable to jog, jump, lunge, or squat, after spending the back-half of 2022 recovering from a major knee injury. Add in a complex relationship with body image, restrictive dieting, and exercise, and you’ll understand why it felt like a big deal to pursue a goal of strength for the first time ever.

If you enjoyed the Body Image Story episodes (#150, #151, #154, #165, and #176) I think you’ll love this one.

  • I have fallen in love with Shana Yurko’s practical and approachable system to start using video in your business marketing. It’s causing me to reevaluate all that’s been holding me back from leveraging this powerful tool (and btw, I think this episode might give you the itch to start doing the same…)

Shana’s not going to let you off the hook with your dusty old excuses for why you’re not showing up to market your business using video. It’s no accident that this episode was the very FIRST episode I’ve ever recorded video from -- it’s contagious! Even just being in her orbit makes me feel empowered to expand my video comfort zone!

    In this episode you’ll hear:

a wake up call on whatever excuses are keeping you from getting started with video some encouraging words for the part of you that feels so terrified to show up in this vulnerable way on camera how different social strategies or platforms work for different types of businesses (i.e. reels vs. tiktoks!)

Ready to take this podcast episode to the NEXT LEVEL? Shana and I are hosting a joint workshop called “Show Up” on February 10th, 2023!

We’re looking to dig in with a small group of really serious participants who are ready to figure out EXACTLY what’s stopping them from leveraging video marketing in their businesses, and start down the path to changing that story. This is a paid experience ($37 USD per ticket) because we’re looking to deliver something way deeper than a free training.

We’re so excited to be putting this together for you and can’t wait to help you SHOW UP in 2023, starting with this workshop!

  • I felt really defeated that I wasn’t getting the traction needed to grow my business to the next level.

I felt like I had done all the things (email marketing, fb ads, the podcast, a powerful new quiz, a refreshed website, a new lead magnet, updated welcome sequence, etc.) and I still wasn’t getting anywhere with it.

I hung out in the pity-party zone for a bit before realizing that I had been marketing my business with a whisper, when what I really needed to do was build a stage and grab a mic.

This episode is sure to offer some reflection on your own marketing style, perhaps revealing an excuse or two that are keeping you quiet when what you know you need to do is get loud. This ep is all about leaving your comfort zone and shaking things up.

  • Today’s episode comes to you fresh off a 1:1 coaching session. What we talked about today felt too good to keep it a secret, so I had to share! We’re talking about an alternative to traditional goal setting.

You’ve heard all the “rules” for goals, like how they need structure, an action list, a deadline, something measurable, etc…

But what if that’s not really serving you right now?

Without knowing it, I’ve been using an alternative to traditional goal setting for the past few years, and it has been wildly helpful in keeping my intentions top of mind all year long. Good news: it’s really simple, it costs zero dollars, and it works.

If you’re looking for extra support in helping you get your ideas into reality, you’re looking for CHEER CAMP! I offer ongoing mindset support for small business owners and side-hustlers who are ready to quiet their self doubt and imposter syndrome to get a MAJOR confidence boost! If you’ve been feeling stagnant in what you’re working on, CHEER CAMP will help you find momentum again.

  • The Body Image Story continues today with Part 5 where I’m diving into a complicated history with clothing. I talk about the challenges of shopping for a larger body, the fear of having tags show, crying in the bathroom at age 12 trying on bathing suits, the triple layered tank tops that were tough to quit, and that awful, clingy fabric that showed up in every discount clothing store that showed off every unflattering lump and bump.

My relationship with clothing has changed, but the story isn’t close to over. In this episode I also dive into the horror story of meeting with a plastic surgeon to discuss a breast reduction, only to be handed a business card that said “Lose 50lbs and call me back.”

  • In this episode I’m talking about a mindset shift that helped me move beyond the confines of "working hours" and "off hours." Throw away the timeline with me, and let’s talk about how we can stop gatekeeping our joy for the hours outside of our work.

Quick note, my goal is never to push a mindset shift on anyone. I share this story in hopes that it might prompt you to think about your own working hours in a new light. What you do from there is totally up to you!

  • She’s a dose of real. She’s everything we’re about here on You Might Not Like It -- and in this episode we’re talking about micro-failures in the entrepreneurship world, getting ghosted, struggling to put yourself out there, and taking the ick out of marketing.

I’m so happy to introduce you to Lauren Grayson today, who created her photography business under circumstances that didn’t look anything like the other “about me” pages she saw in the industry.

Lauren shares the powerful story about how she took ownership over her unpolished story, and used that vulnerability to deepen the connections with her clients, both in her photography business and in her business as a marketing coach and online educator.

  • I wish I remember where I picked up this quote, but these words were everything I held onto while I was in the depth of recovery: “the trees in Winter are bare, but they are not dead. Spring can come in an instant.”

Spring has sprung, in a sense, and it has brought such a new appreciation for life and dedication to everything that feels in service of me and worthy of my attention. If you have gone through a challenging season, or if you’re in one right now, my hope is that this episode is a reminder of all that you’ve done to preserve.

  • This is almost a part two to the previous episode, where I shared the curveball story of my knee injury a few months ago. Since then, it's been a rollercoaster of ups and downs, all the while waiting for "normal me" to knock on my door and tell me she's taking over. Enter the realization: she's not coming.

This episode is a love letter to no longer waiting for normal, but taking each day as it comes.

  • Can’t a girl roll down a hill on a beautiful sunny day without rupturing a tendon in her knee?! The answer is no. Apparently the tendon had to GTFO and my Summer had to fold in on itself sending a major curveball through everything in my life that I thought I could control. Curveball is a probably an understatement. This episode has the story.

Fair warning: I’m not at the part yet where I can say I’m grateful for all the shiny life lessons this has taught me. It’s just not that kind of story yet.
