In this week’s mailbag, we read messages about nasal sprays, visualised podcasts, a water sports quip, a flashy new car, Ronnie Barker’s antique shop, a menacing new TV show idea and looking for pheasants. Happy Friday!

That’s right, it’s a first for the pod as David and Joe have recorded a Triple Bubble episode! And to kick things off, the first show is all about the five conversation ideas that they brought along to talk about. Namely - understanding pensions, David’s chocolaty voice, an old man staring through a window, Joe’s new section suggestion and David’s short-lived idea of moving to Antigua.

After a few week’s break from podding due to holidays, illnesses and other diversions, Chatabix is back! And we’re back with a bang - as David has a very dramatic story to tell Joe about being attacked on a train recently. So buckle up and settle back as David explains all.

In today’s mailbag, there’s messages about growing up living next to Robert Smith, love for Muswell Hill, lunch time darts, some very sweet ‘mundane parenting’ stories, Tesco celeb spots, an impression of David and Joe, a golden moment, a workplace easter egg and gaming on drugs. Happy Friday!

Amongst the very varied topics on today’s show, David and Joe discuss Cameo clips and whether Chatabix should do them, speedy interactions with fans, The new Micheal Jackson film, Joe’s short-lived love of breakdancing, childhood games with siblings, singing songs on the pod and learning more about The Grateful Dead.

First up, there’s some chat about young people’s thoughts on podcasts, fears about becoming irrelevant and a concerning side-effect of weight loss - so all business as usual really. But then the conversation turns to some recent comments that David made about the band Dodgy - and the wheels rapidly start to come off the Chatabus. Needless to say - we love you Dodgy, it was just a bit of ‘ramping it up for the pod’.

On today’s show, David plays Joe some recordings he made whilst passing by one of the houses he used to garden for in Handcross, West Sussex. So there’s plenty of reminiscing about all that. Then the chat turns to the slightly embarrassing perks of being an actor on a film set. Well, embarrassing for David and Joe at least, as the simple act of being offered cup of tea seems to make them feel very uncomfortable indeed.

In this old show, we chatted to actor Tony Way (After Life, Extras, Game of Thrones) about getting out of auditions, the stress of buying houses, putting on an Essex accent and being manly when the builders are round.

Time to wrap up the week with another look into our mailbag. There’s an Our Little Systems from Australia, some revelations from a golf course greenkeeper, a few quips and jokes, a couple with a funny name, a bed shop turf war and two great stories about encounters with Sting.

Joe’s been to see the circus at the Brighton Fringe - and whilst watching the show had a bit of a revelation. Meanwhile, David went with his sister to the Fawlty Towers Dining Experience in London. So as you can imagine, they spend most of the episode catching up on those very two things. It’s showtime!!

Just when you thought it was all over, now it’s David turn to visit Joe’s sinister farm. Whilst staying with relatives in Susses last week, he realised he was very close to it and jumped at the chance to do his own investigations. And also while there record some video footage. So on today’s pod, he talks Joe through his experience and plays him some of the all-important evidence. And the verdict - well, we’ll let you decide on that…

Apologies in advance as this one was a bit of a slog, to say the least! David and Joe were feeling very uninspired and really struggled with things to talk about. But they still managed to come up with an hour of chatting - on subjects including toxic incompetence, the Fawlty Towers Dining Experience, owning a coffee wagon, podding from listeners houses, David at Plumpton College, the wonderful Adam Buxton, Comedy Shuffle and the Golden Lobe awards.

After almost being totally distracted from Mailbag again by some Spice Girls anecdotes, David and Joe eventually manage to pull some post out of the bag. There’s messages about the Brighton Pillars, some Golden Moments, a dog fouling quandary, a miss-judged quip, an old pub in Albourne with a dome and another ‘how often we have sex’ report.

It’s the second part of our trouser-themed double bubble episode. So picking up from were we left things yesterday, there’s chat about recent crunch crunches, more on expensive trouser purchases, the new Pottery Throw Down presenters, drinking too much coffee, 48 hour Nintendo speed benders, David’s short-lived business studies course and Joe’s bongo. Plus a quick pod chart quiz to end on.

Joe’s back in a hotel after doing some filming yesterday, so feeling a little a little out of sorts being away from home. He’s also come up with a new section idea for the pod and really wants to talk to David about it. But first he needs to explain about a pair of expensive trousers that he really liked but was reluctant to buy, which leads to a lot of analysis from David and a real downward spiral from Joe. Then David recounts a country lane stand-off he had the other day, where he behaved very valiantly indeed! More on all this - plus Pottery Thrown Down, David’s Business Studies course and A Pod Chart Quiz - in tomorrow’s Part 2

Well, David and Joe had all good intentions for this to be a regular Friday Mailbag episode. But after David reads out the first email, they both get totally sidetracked with a story about the time teenage David hung out with some very curious The Cure fans. So much so, that it takes up the rest of the show - it’s a cracking yarn though! Normal Mailbag service will return this Friday.

Our Dragon’s Den pitching session continues, with the Patreons battling it out to impress David and Joe with their great ‘new section’ ideas. There’s also a surprise appearance from friend of the show, screenwriter Neil Forsyth, who has a couple of ideas for them too. And just when David and Joe think they’ve heard from everyone, yet more hopefuls arrive - it’s along old session!

Soon after starting today’s show, Joe remembers that his brother’s had a new section idea for the pod and messages him to get the full details. So while they await the reply, David decides to send out a message to the Chatabix Patreons to ask if they have any ideas too and would like to join them on Zoom for a Dragon’s Den style pitching session. The only problem is, he sends the link out to everyone which very quickly results in a complete pile-on of potential Patreon contestants. Let the chaos commence! PS there were a lot, so it’s gonna be a two-parter.
