Kia ora, and welcome to The Cleine Line. Iโm Jamie Cleine โ Former Mayor (2019-2025) of Buller District, a local born and bred, farmer, business person, and now a podcast host too.
Now just to clear things up right from the start โ this isnโt the official line, itโs the Cleine Line. Itโs not a press release, itโs not a meeting minute, and itโs definitely not spin. This is just me, speaking directly to you, about whatโs going on โ around Buller, across local government, and sometimes even up in the Beehive.
Each episode, Iโll take a few minutes to share what Iโve been up to โ the good stuff happening in our communities, the challenging things, and the occasional eyebrow-raiser coming out of Wellington.
Iโll give you a few behind-the-scenes thoughts, maybe a laugh, maybe a rant โ and hopefully give people a better sense of what goes on in this place we call home.
The Cleine Line episodes will cover my previous work as a rural Mayor in the Buller District of New Zealand and the diverse communities that I served. I will comment on the issues and opportunities that I encounter, and provide commentary on these as I see them. I aim to inform and share some insights into how I approach leadership, strategic long term thinking and advocacy. The episodes will traverse the serious to the less serious including some community characters, events, social and news commentary.
The Cleine Line is my own podcast and is not the official line of the Buller District Council. -

David Calder presents the music he loves in The Folk Music Hour, with the aim of rekindling listeners' interest in acoustic music in the Anglo-American tradition, including NZ folk song, and world folk music such as that heard at WOMAD in New Plymouth's beautiful Brookland's Park.
Almost all music has a folk origin: blues, jazz, rock and even so-called classical. As Big Bill Broonzy famously said - "all songs are folk songs; ain't never heard a horse sing!"
Arguably the first Kiwi to make a living with a mandolin, David spent some of his musical life playing bluegrass, but was performing in the folk boom as early as 1964. He was playing in Europe and the UK in the 70's, dabbling in folk rock and pop in California in the 80's, and creating a country garden in the 90's and teaching children to read.
These days, kind of retired, he is free to pursue any of the musical paths he loves: song-writing, tuition, and performance with guitar, piano, banjo, mandolin, autoharp, dulcimer, even bass; playing jazz, folk, blues and originals. Or to just kick back and listen to Bach or Grappelli ...
He is a long-standing performer of NZ folk, and maintains a love affair with US old-time music nurtured since Doc Watson's LPs first made it to these shores. A natural entertainer since his debut on radio aged six, David thinks radio is the perfect performance medium. -
