  • Jared Hinton M.A, M.A.T, LCMHC is a psychotherapist in private practice in Asheville, NC. Jared is a husband, father, and a person in long-term recovery. His work focuses on helping individuals and couples heal from patterns of ancestral, familial, and relational trauma. Jared is a graduate of Naropa University's Contemplative and Buddhist Psychology program and a student of the Appalachian Gestalt Institute in Asheville.

    In this episode, Jared and I have a conversation about parenting and fatherhood. We discuss our own involvement with our sons and our relational schemas with our fathers. Jared shares his journey into fatherhood after years in recovery, which gave him a foundation and practice in the journey of emotional regulation and renewal We explore such questions as; What do sons wish they had received from their fathers? What might honest, healing conversations between fathers and sons look like? What does it look like to heal intergenerational trauma and dysfunction?

  • In this solocast I talk about the importance of following through on commitments. It’s basically keeping your word. If you say you'll do something, do it. Whether it's taking out the trash, meeting your partner for dinner, or attending their work event, follow through reliably. The key is consistently matching your actions with your words. Follow-through breeds trust and reliability in relationships. Essentially, partners who do what they say they'll do don't just gain trust; they earn it. Their actions give evidence that they are worthy of trust. This firm foundation is key for relationships to go the distance.

  • n this episode I have a conversation with my wife, Yvonne Rainbow Teplitsky. She is the founder of Artsy Goddess Studio, where she actively carries out her role in helping others and the planet heal. Rainbow is passionate about art, as seen in the upcycled clothing she creates from second-hand materials, as well as the visual arts she creates, such as murals, paintings, and tapestries. She also helps women transform through voice empowering workshops and helps couples through workshops and retreats that she co-facilitates with me.

    The longing to be seen, heard and considered is normal and vital. But if you don’t feel heard or understood by your partner (or vice-versa), chances are, neither you nor your partner are really present to each other as much as you could be. We don’t want others necessarily to agree with all our feelings, but what we crave is that they at least validate them. Rainbow and I talk about how this shows up in our relationship.

    In this episode, Corey and I have a conversation about how trauma effects relationships. Living through traumatic events may result in expectations of danger, betrayal, or potential harm within new or old relationships. People who experience trauma may become anxious or frightened in relation to others, experience them as having power or control, or easily feel abandoned or rejected. Still, others may become overprotective or dependent. Though it’s challenging, you can heal the trauma and change the effect it has on your life and relationships.

  • In this solocast I talk about humility and being humble. To be humble or practice humility means to value other people and their opinions without indulging in self-pride. It's the opposite of arrogance, boastfulness and vanity. A humble person does not always have to prove their point, be right, or lead the conversation because they are truly comfortable with who they are. Being vulnerable and showing humility to a romantic partner can allow for better communication and trust to develop in the relationship.

  • In this solocast I talk about micromanaging. Micromanaging in a relationship is when one partner excessively controls or monitors the other partner's actions, often to the point of interfering with their independence and decision-making ability It is a form of control and manipulation when it is a constant in your relationship. Micromanaging often stems from a lack of trust or insecurity. It can also stem from OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) tendencies.

  • Virginia Gilbert is a licensed marriage and family therapist serving clients in North Carolina and California. She specializes in helping people go through high conflict divorce, relationship problems with their partner and attachment trauma.

    In this episode, Virgina and I have a conversation about high conflict couples including high conflict divorce and ways to manage this dynamic. High conflict couples have a lot of intense, out-of-control, hurtful fights. Usually the fights are complicated, twisty, blaming, and contemptuous. The fighting also escalates quickly and both people say and do harmful things during conflict.

  • In this episode, I have a conversation with Misa Terral. Misa Terral is founder of Soulpower Dance, offering transformational classes for embodiment, joy, and self-healing. Her training as a licensed Occupational Therapist specializing in sensory integration, a certified Death Doula, and in nature-based spirituality cultivated her unique style of teaching and empowering others. She facilitates programming for the nonprofit Dance to Be Free, taking the healing power of dance to prisons. You can find her soon on SoulpowerLiving.com

    Dance and Movement are wonderful ways for us to embody our authenticity and express ourselves. It can boost confidence in ourselves which will in turn affect our relationships in a positive way. Misa shares her journey on how dance and movement helped heal an eating disorder as well as describing how this expression allows for “mistakes” and not being perfect, but instead find our true expression.

  • In this episode, I have a conversation with Cathy Courtenay. Cathy is a relational coach and facilitator. She works with both couples and individuals who are striving to find deeper connection and intimacy both with themselves and each other. She helps her clients to see the patterns of relating that are holding them back from what they truly desire. Cathy also facilitates the practice of the Circling Method where she creates a safe space for people where they can stand in their truth and experience what is real for them. Responding to life’s call to find truth, Cathy is committed to a mission of helping uplift humanity and develop profound compassion and empathy in the world.

    Most of us are challenged to listen non-defensively when we are triggered or our conversations start to get intense. Listening without getting defensive is a skill that can be learned. First awareness is key, know that ourselves or the other is activated. Self-soothing is another step in the process in order to regulate ourselves so that we can listen with curiosity and the intent to understand, not defend.

Many couples that work together have a challenging time navigating their business relationship and their personal relationship.   • In this episode I have a conversation with Thomas Doochin. Thomas is a men's work Facilitator, a farmer, and a storyteller. He lives with his family in the mountains surrounding Asheville, NC. Thomas is a believer in Life and human's innate capacity to bring forth more Beauty. For 9 years, Thomas led Daymaker, a social impact startup that grew to serving kids in over 30 states. He is also my neighbor and dear friend.

    Thomas and I have a very heartfelt conversation of the deep challenges and deep joys of men opening their hearts to one another This is the healing work so many men are incredibly fearful of but so many also are having the courage to do. Having a container like a men’s group, a circle of brotherhood allows for this risk -taking courage to be experienced In it’s richness of transformation.
