  • It's “That Guy… Who Was in That Thing” meets “The Nerdist Podcast” but with people even less well known! Sure it's fun to interview the crazy famous and ask them about the difficult years, but that's been done and they won't return our calls. Memories are plastic - we're getting the real dirt from people still crawling through it. Laura Force Scruggs is the playwright and Jake Scruggs is the technical guy who listens to a lot of “This American Life” and thinks that qualifies him to interview people.

  • This is a collection of content on the National Theatre production of Medea, in a new version by Ben Power.

  • The mysterious old time radio series "The Haunting Hour" (actually 30 minute episodes) ran during the mid-1940's on NBC. The names of the cast and production crew were never revealed so when the series stopped airing, it was as if it ceased to exist. The episodes were largely "whodunit" mysteries, with psychological thrills and supernatural themes. With an eerie organ accompaniment and traditional horror vibe, the series represents a mysterious gem from the golden age of radio.

  • The Sealed Book was a radio series of horror and mystery tales aired between March 18 and September 9 of 1945. The melodramatic series began each week after "the sound of the great gong," as the mysterious door to the secret vault is opened - wherein is kept the great sealed book, in which is recorded all the secrets and mysteries of mankind through the ages. Here are tales of every kind, tales of murder, of madness, of dark deeds strange and terrible beyond all belief." Scripts for The Sealed Book were by Robert Arthur, Jr. and David Kogan, who also created The Mysterious Traveler.

  • Delivered daily. Inner Sanctum was a hugely popular Old Time Radio series created by producer Himan Brown. It was based on the popular Inner Sanctum mystery series of books. It aired from January 7, 1941, to October 5, 1952. Inner Sanctum featured tales of mystery, horror and suspense, with a mix of humor. That humor was what made Inner Sanctum different from similar horror and mystery series like Suspense, or The Whistler aired during the golden age of radio. Each episode started with the sound of a creaking door, some creepy organ music, followed by the opening narration. It's been said that the listening to the show was like celebrating Halloween every week. Many established stars played roles or were guest stars in the series, including Peter Lorre, Helen Hayes, Mary Astor, Frank Sinatra, Bela Lugosi and Orson Welles. Of the several hundred episodes of Inner Sanctum that aired, only about 150 survived.

  • Dark Venture was an American psychological thriller, anthology format radio series aired during 1945-1947. The series ran for 52 episodes, but only fifteen full episodes have been recovered so far.

The introduction to Dark Venture started with this narration, read by John Lake: “Over the minds of mortal men come many shadows… shadows of greed and hate, jealousy and fear. Darkness is absence of light… so in the sudden shadows which fog the minds of men and are to be found in the strange impulses which urge them on to their venture…in the dark".

The stories on Dark Venture gave the listener the killer's point of view. Each episode was an adventure of a twisted reality where people were constantly plotting ways to kill someone. They played twisted mind games with their victims before killing them by strangulation, knifing or shooting.

    Contains all 15 episodes.

  • My Path to Atheism is a remarkable document in many ways, not least that it was written by a woman in Victorian England, not the most open free-thinking of societies, especially for women at that time. It needed a remarkable woman to write such a revolutionary and to 19th century minds, heretical document in a society where the Church had such a stronghold. Besant herself was originally married to a clergyman, but her increasingly anti-religious views and writings led to a legal separation. She went on to become a member of the National Secular Society and thence to co-edit the National Reformer, which put forth ideas on revolutionary ideas at the time such as trades unions, national education, birth control and so on. In 1877 Besant published this book 'My Path to Atheism' which was compiled from a series of lectures in which she surgically dissects the basic tenets of Christianity. As one reads the chapters, one can follow the evolution of her ideas from Theism to Atheism, ending up with a stunning refutation of the Church of England Catechism. (Summary by Kevin Green)

On nights, when I am too tired, I have searched and searched for stories and audiobooks that we would enjoy. Sadly, I never did find any. So I decided that I was going to start my own!
