It’s a Siess-Sister-Mothers-Day edition of Soccer Mom Sunday! On this episode, host Jennifer Siess from Mine to Define has a sit-down with Sister, Best Friend, and fellow Soccer Mom, Cynthia Siess Kirkpatrick. Cynthia is a high-level Financial Advisor for Moneta and founder of the She Lift Project, a podcast dedicated to highlighting women at the top of their career fields, and all the lessons that come with. Listen in for some real talk about walking in your power in male-dominated business fields, how far things have come, and how far yet it all needs to go for parity and long overdue perspectives. Oh, and they talk soccer too - from youth play through Lindenwood University, coaching both boys and girls, watching “on the other sideline” with fellow parents, and helping our kids along their own journeys in academics, athletics, and life.

There are not enough words to express the contributions to The Beautiful Game by this guest! Jennifer Siess from Mine To Define was honored to have a conversation with idol, Michelle Akers - FIFA female "Player of the Century", first female soccer player with an endorsement, first female soccer player to win in the Olympics, first to say NEVER STOP ADVOCATING AND WINNING! If you or your kids have a favorite women’s soccer player … if you have a daughter who can dream of playing the game at a higher level … if you have a son who also looks up to stellar female athletes … Michelle Akers is one to thank. She and her 1985 USWNT team, including STL’s own Ruth Harker, played when pay was non-existent, playing fields (literal and figurative) were not equal, and broadcast didn’t care to cover. She’s the O-est of the OG’s. Listen in for her game origin story, her recognition of disparity and continued advocacy, the long-coming recognition of the 85-ers, and her loves outside the game, including her son and horse rescue ranch. Make sure you and your kids know her name … and her story.

Some of us are in, and others are ALL IN! Jennifer Siess from Mine to Define was joined by Betsy Birkenmeier Hanak, athlete-coach-teacher-parent-fan extraordinaire. Whether doing a Teamsnap update or making a training basement, Betsy is 100% in supporting her kids in their pursuit of their dreams both on and off the pitch, court, or wherever. With 3 kids, each with different personalities and needs, Betsy and her husband, Tim, have learned a lot along the way in terms of when to step in, when to call out, and when to step back in supporting each of their journeys. Listen in for wisdom they’ve gained along the way, what they are working on, and the hopes for their kids and their family in The Beautiful Game and beyond.

Sascha Bauer comes from a literal soccer (futbol) powerhouse - Germany. But it was a flamboyant 42 year old Roger Milla of Cameroon that danced at a corner flag in the 90' World Cup that helped steer his soccer career, passions, and idealism! Check out City SC's Director of Regional Training and Development, as well as City Future's Director, as he chatted with the three of us all things soccer/futbol, INCLUDING ADIDAS vs. NIKE... really.

Hear their unique perspectives on time management, balance, decision-making, and having daughters who play The Beautiful Game with teammates and coaches who don’t normally look like them - and how, for a rare time, a female coach of color made a massive impact on their daughters (first Soccer Mom Sunday guest, Bry McCarthy). #soccer #podcast #soccermoms #pathway #recruiting #college
