Как племенной бог-войны и бури Яхве (Иегова) стал Богом всемирного авраамического монотеизма? Многие христиане отождествляют его с Иисусом; мусульмане зовут его Аллах. В этом отрывке из лекции профессор Йельского Университета Кристин Хейс поясняет что корни бога Яхве, (родоначальника современного монотеизма) вероятно идут от ханаанского бога Эля. В более развернутой лекции она поясняет как происхождение бога Яхве (Иегова) берет свое начало в районе горы Сеир до его иммиграции во время краха бронзового века в Иудейское нагорье вокруг Силома. Так Яхве и Яхвизм трансформировался в театре ханаанской религии, где доминировали Эль, Баал, Ашера, Анат и другие мифические фигуры. Одни аспекты местной ханаанской религии яхвисты ассимилировали, другие отвергли или оспаривали. Этот процесс в итоге привел к росту генотеизма/монолатрии Яхве, а затем к формам примитивного монотеизма из которого в итоге вырос монотеизм современных иудеев, христиан и мусульман.
Кристин Хейс — американский ученый и специалист по иудаике, в настоящее время работает профессором религиоведения и классической иудаики в Йельском университете , специализируясь на талмудических и мидрашистских исследованиях и классической иудаике. Является одним из ведущих специалистов в этой области знаний.
