ADHD is as highly genetic as height and / or eye color.
ADHD usually is present from childhood through adulthood...a lifetime.
ADHD usually comes with commorbities (a.k.a. "friends") such as learning disabilities, anxiety, and depression to name a few. And if the "friends" are addressed / assessed / treated before the ADHD is, it actually sets up an incomplete and ineffective treatment and support plan for a person who is actually struggling at their core with ADHD.
Females are the most under- and mis-diagnosed for ADHD and repeatedly dismissed because of it, not to mention categorically assessed "inattentive" males.
ADHDers chase dopamine because we have a low amount in our systems, so we look to increase it in a variety of healthy and unhealthy ways. It's arguable multi-billion dollar industries exist because of this.
ADHD is "the best medical diagnosis" a person can get because it's treatable, can be managed with proper support, and can improve one's life tenfold (per Dr. Ned Hallowell, one of the world's leading ADHD experts).
So, why are we pretending that ADHD is only a childhood issue that effects hyperactive "disruptive" little boys? Why are we pretending that it's definitely NOT the assessment we need because we don't want "that"? Why are we pretending that ADHD doesn't rule the world?
Because...it certainly looks like, in fact, ADHD Rules The World.
World peace, here we come?
Let the healing begin.
