In Spring of 2021, Alex had a breakthrough performance at the first McKirdy Micro Marathon. He ran 2:16:51, destroying his personal best and running a time that would be under the eventual Olympic Trials qualifying standard of 2:18:00. The problem? The standard window hadn't started. Over the next two years he would take multiple shots at the standard and would come up short on the day. After four attempts at it, he would line up for his last shot this past October, less than two months before the window closed.
Alex takes us through his journey, going into detail on his mentality, the adjustments he made, and everything that led to his last shot back at Rockland State Park, back to where it all started those few short years ago. We talk about his build, adjusting to altitude, race day, qualifying for the Olympic Trials, and about his preparations for his next race, the Olympic Trials Marathon this February. And of course we have to end out the podcast as we always do, with off the wall questions.

Josh Peterson joins us for part two of our two parter! Josh hosts his own podcast, Chasing Three Hours, a podcast about what runners are chasing, why they keep pushing themselves, and what keeps them curious.
For episode two we focus on the big one. Breaking three hours for the first time and running under the Boston Qualifier. Josh takes through setting new, aggressive goals during he build up to the 2022 Chicago Marathon. Following Chicago, he would find out a year later that he would be on the wrong side of the Boston Marathon cutoff time. Josh Peterson joins us for the first of a great two part series! Josh hosts his own podcast, Chasing Three Hours, a podcast about what runners are chasing, why they keep pushing themselves, and what keeps them curious.
We talk with Josh, the week before his big Fall race at the Des Moines Marathon. We start the podcast with his origin story, from running in high school to walking away from it to pursue other passions, and then finding it once again as an adult. We talk motivations to keep doing it, setbacks in those early years, and about finding a way to have running as a positive outlet. We close out part one on a high note, with a special race that got him to start thinking about what was possible.

This episode series started with a prompt, “were you a head case or over-obsessed with running in college? Do you have a healthy relationship with it now? Let’s chat about it.”
For episode 2 of our series, I’m joined by Josh behuniak! Josh, brings to us a great story of just what can happen with just plain ol hard work and consistency. But the story does not come without some challenges. In this episode Josh talks us through his growth as a runner, digging into the highs and lows of his experience. He speaks about finding finding himself crossing the line into obsession during the beginning of the pandemic, moving his life to a city hours away, and finally his journey into the marathon. We’re just scratching the surface here with Josh as he has some exciting goals coming over the next year.

This episode series started with a prompt, “were you a head case or over-obsessed with running in college? Do you have a healthy relationship with it now? Let’s chat about it.” And for our first guest on this series I’m joined by TJ Morales. TJ, a graduate of High Point University was fortunate to have found a knowledgeable and positive community when he began to run in high School and for the early part of college. But what happens when those positive influences are no longer around and you’re left with an environment not conducive to growth in the sport? On this episode TJ takes us through his story of carving his own path in the sport and the barriers and breakthroughs he found. TJ has continued to improvement post college despite an extremely busy life outside of running. I really enjoyed talking to TJ and much of his attitude toward running is something that others can take away as well.

We have a fun podcast on deck for all of you fellow track nerds. With the NBA Trade Deadline just ending, Fahy came to us with an idea... What if all of the major US Distance groups had their own trade deadline. So we did it. On this week's episode Cris is joined by Fahy, Ditri (for a second), and Witty as we go through all of the major US groups and facilitate trades. We got package deals, one for ones, and maybe even some extras tossed in to make up for cap space. We hit almost every group here and then discuss who would be every group's franchise player that would never be traded. And of course we finish it off with some fun questions to cap it all off.

On this week's episode of the Beers and Miles podcast Cris and Brent are joined by one of our favorite reoccurring guest, one of the British citizens of Albion, Adam Ditri. We catch up on running and then jump right into our main topic brought to us by Nicky B. The topic for discussion is: how do you deal with running anxiety? We follow up the main running topic with our fun topic of the week: What are your no skips albums. Finally, we wrapped things up with our usual random questions at the end of the show. As always beers and consumed and we may have some hot takes at the ready.

The transition to competing post collegiately is often one that is not as straightforward as we believe it would be before graduation. In the second part of our multipart series, we welcome back Otterbein's University's Max Hoffman, and Albion College's Adam Ditri & Andrew Wittland to discuss the paths they took to running competitively again following graduation. Each speaks about their path to finding a coach and finding a healthy balance for themselves while still staying motivated to continue competing. Our original recording went extremely long so expect a part three episode sooner rather than later!
Look out for Part 3 coming to you soon!

The motivation to continue competing post college is built in the months or even years prior to graduation. In our first of our multipart series we welcome Otterbein's University's Max Hoffman, and Albion College's Adam Ditri & Andrew Wittland. In this episode each speaks on their experience at their respective colleges and their final races. We touch briefly on the transition post college before jumping into our usual shenanigans of random questions.
