Paulie was the first person to trust us at Standard Issue, and create some collaborative garments together back in 2018. That meant a lot. We are psyched to finally find out who put forth the “Uncle Paulie” alias, as well as hear how the Queens, New York inspired deli has blossomed in the city of Angels. What do you get when a beatuiful young boy travels from Korea, to Colombia, before settling in the city of Los Angeles in the early 80's? In this case, a fun loving officiando of the writing on the wall, hip hop and all the incredible aspects of its culture, and culinary palette that transcends various continents. For season 2, episode 8, we introduce to yall OG CHINO. He says OG, but we'll say triple OG.
Los Angeles is obvioulsy home base for us. It is super important that we take time to rap with the individuals that have helped shape the culture of this amazing city. So much of what Chino has contributed to is what has inspired us, and inspired the Standard Issue brand. From his pops work as a diplomat, and tae kwon do instructor. Being raised by his older sisters in 80's in K-Town, to opening record shops on Slauson, and working for Rick Rubin, Chino's career has touched alot of different people, places, and things. Not gonna lie. It is kinda fun to touch base with our friends on here who are generally the quietest and most reserverd. As is the case with our guest for episode 7 of season 2, Mr. Ricky Li. The influence of native New Yorkers feels like it is becoming quite the norm this season, and so is the case with Ricky's upbringing. Like most kids growing up in the Lower East Side of New York, it's that early exposure to this world of skate, music, fashion that has formed the world of streewear. Rick was born into it, literally. The season finale of Behind The Seams has arrived. We could not of asked for a better guest to wrap it all up with. For episode 13, we present to you Chicago's own, Ibn Jasper. Mr. Jasper has been a day 1 JSP/Standard Issue supporter. On this episode we get a glimpse of his upbringing from curating shape ups and hair cuts, to discovering the world of skateboarding, and fashion thru his Chi-town lens. From there, we learn how he came to have a Louis Vuitton sneaker named after him. All in addition to his education, and progression in the world of design alongside some of the entertainment and music space most elite.
