  • In this episode, I chat to Dr Anna Cabeca, aka the Girlfriend Doctor, on how a woman's body changes after 40, particularly during perimenopause and menopause and what she can do to stay slim and sexy.

Dr Anna explains the importance of understanding how our hormones impact these changes and the simple, often easy steps you can take to keep that dreaded menopause belly at bay!

She explains how these changes affect weight management, brain function, and overall health.

The discussion covers the importance of nutrition, the role of intermittent fasting, and the impact of lifestyle choices, including alcohol consumption, on hormonal balance.

Dr Anna emphasizes the need for individualised approaches to health and wellness, particularly in managing menopausal symptoms and maintaining a healthy weight.

We discuss the critical role of hormones in women's health, particularly focusing on estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. She emphasizes the impact of toxicity on hormonal balance and overall health, advocating for lifestyle changes, nutritional support, and the use of bioidentical hormones.

The discussion also covers the importance of exercise, particularly weight-bearing and flexibility exercises, as well as the significance of oxytocin in promoting well-being and longevity.

Dr Anna Cabeca, DO, OBGYN, FACOG, is the best selling author of The Hormone Fix and Keto-Green 16 and MenuPause. Dr Anna is triple-board certified and a fellow of gynecology and obstetrics, integrative medicine, and anti-ageing and regenerative medicine. She lectures frequently on those topics and shares the secret behind the ebb and flow of intimacy as she demystifies the fascinating hormonal changes over time. She will help you discover how the “love hormone”, Oxytocin can breathe life into your relationship, and how Cortisol can take it away - and how the delicate balancing act of those hormones can reignite your libido and support a healthy relationship, most importantly the one you have with yourself.

She is sassy, blunt, speaks from the heart and has a wonderful sense of humor!

She has personally developed natural products to help women balance hormones and thrive through menopause including the highly acclaimed Julva® cream for the vulva and MightyMaca® Plus, a powerful superfood blend. She lives in Dallas with her daughters, horses and dogs.

Personalised health is crucial, as everyone's biology and needs are unique. Understanding your own body and experimenting with different biohacks can lead to better outcomes. The state of health and wellness in Australia (and globally) is concerning, with rising rates of obesity, chronic diseases, and mental health issues. More needs to be done to educate and support people in achieving optimal health. Access to healthcare and affordable, nutritious food is a major issue, with big food companies often prioritising profits over public health. Simple biohacks like hydration, fasting, sauna, cold showers, and supplements like NMN and magnesium can have a significant impact on overall health and well-being. Women's health and hormones play a crucial role in biohacking, and there is a need for more research and education in this area. Biohacking should not be extreme or obsessive, but rather a balanced approach to optimising health and longevity. The future of medicine lies in personalised medicine and precision health, where treatments and interventions are tailored to individual needs and genetics. Quality supplements are important, and it's crucial to do blood work to understand one's deficiencies before taking supplements. Some biohacks may have potential risks, so it's important to research and consult with professionals before trying them. Nutrition plays a significant role in overall health, and it's important to focus on eating real, quality food. Stress management is essential, and finding techniques like exercise, breathwork, and nature can help regulate the nervous system. Creating a low-tox environment by using air and water filters and choosing natural, chemical-free products is important for overall health. Prioritising self-care and putting oneself first is crucial for long-term health and well-being. Chapters 00:00 Introduction and Connection through Biohacking 02:03 Camilla's Journey into Biohacking 04:41 Realising the Impact of Mould Poisoning 08:50 The State of Health and Wellness in Australia 12:17 The Evolution of the Biohacking World 13:56 The Importance of Women's Health in Biohacking 20:13 The Future of Medicine: Personalised and Precision Health 32:31 Exploring Biohacks and Concerns 34:26 Biohacks to Approach with Caution 35:00 Favourite Biohacks and Therapies 36:19 Being Mindful of Adrenal Health 37:11 Unconventional Biohacks and Their Claims 38:14 Excitement for the Biohacking Conference 41:42 Creating a Low-Tox Environment 46:16 The Significance of Nutrition 49:17 Prioritising Self-Care and Health 52:26 Managing Stress and Finding Balance 57:18 Nature and Exercise as Stress Relievers 58:17 Looking Forward to the Biohacking Conference 01:00:42 Living Well Longer and Prioritising Health

  • It's great to be back for Season 2 of the Biohackher Podcast! I have a great line-up of guests this season for you, and first up is Professor Nir Barzilai.

Professor Nir presented at the Unlock Healthy Longevity Conference at the National University of Singapore in March, and when I heard him speak I knew I had to have him on the pod to share more broadly the work he is doing in spearheading the campaign to lobby the FDA to approve drugs targeted at treating ageing.

Professor Barzilai holds the distinguished positions of Director of the Institute for Ageing Research, Director of the Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Ageing, and the Ingeborg and Ira Leon Rennert Chair of Aging Research. His groundbreaking work has led to the discovery of the first "longevity gene" in humans, providing a genetic key to understanding healthy aging and extreme longevity. This discovery has paved the way for the development of treatments for age-related diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, currently being tested in clinical trials.

In addition to his research on longevity genes, Professor Barzilai's work encompasses studying the biological mechanisms of aging, including the role of nutrients and genetics in lifespan, and investigating the declines in physical and mental capacity associated with aging. He serves as a Professor of Medicine (Endocrinology) and of Genetics, contributing significantly to our understanding of how these factors affect longevity.

Professor Barzilai's contributions to science and medicine are widely recognised. He has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including the Beeson Fellow for Ageing Research, the Ellison Medical Foundation Senior Scholar in Ageing Award, and the Paul F. Glenn Foundation Award, among others. His leadership extends beyond research, as he spearheads international efforts to approve drugs targeting aging. A key initiative, Targeting Agieng with METformin (TAME), aims to demonstrate that aging-related multi-morbidities can be delayed, potentially revolutionising how we approach aging and its associated diseases.

Beyond his scientific achievements, Professor Barzilai's life is marked by remarkable experiences, including serving as chief medic and physician in the Israel Defense Forces, and his humanitarian work in Cambodia and with the Zulu in South Africa.

In exciting recent news, Professor Nir Barzilai has been named president of the Academy for Health and Lifespan Research.

    Today we cover:

    00:30 The Longevity Genes Project
05:17 Chronological Age vs Biological Age

  • This week on the Biohackher Podcast, Azra sits down with intimacy expert to millions Susan Bratton, a champion and advocate for all those who desire passion their whole life long, to talk about how to maintain longevity in your relationships regardless of how old you are.

Susan stands firm in the conviction that passion is ageless. However, few things bring lovemaking to a screeching halt faster than the inability to…show up, shall we say.

In this episode, Azra and Susan dive into:

What the difference is between biohacking and regenerative therapies in the intimate wellness space. What the five horsemen of the apocalypse for the male and female body are. How we can continue having great “us” time as we age and our bodies get older. Why a healthy love life is critical to our overall wellness, especially as it relates to our longevity. Extending “sex span,” and not just life or health span. How libido reflects overall health, but that many people misunderstand the role of hormones for intimacy. Why blood flow is even more important than hormones. Everyday factors in our lives that are affecting our performance in the bedroom. Easy tips and tricks to turn things around behind closed doors. And soooo much more!

  • Living with an auto immune condition isn't easy. It impacts not just your body, mind, and spirit but your whole life. Today Rhea Fawole joins host Azra Alagic to chat about living well with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Rhea Fawole is the CEO & Founder of SOLVi Migration – an Immigration Law headquartered on the Gold Coast.

Her passion to create SOLVi Migration came from 12 years of working in senior roles at the Australian Immigration Department, and seeing the challenges faced migrating to Australia.

When Rhea was first diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2010 at the age of 32, she felt grief for the life she thought was all but over as she learned to navigate changes in her body, mind and spirit. But like the Phoenix that she is, she has risen to self-educate, embrace, and thrive living with this condition.

    Rhea discusses:

What her symptoms were before she was diagnosed with MS How long it took to get diagnosed and how she grieved about her condition What causes MS it's like to live with How mindset and surrounding herself with a postive network helps manage her condition The treatments that worked and didn't work for her How nutritious food and exercise is critical for managing her condition Her top tips for living well with MS

To ensure she managed her health well, Rhea has built a remote legal practice that operates four days per week; a successful operating model she says never would have been borne without her learning how to balance a rewarding career with a chronic health condition. Her vision for SOLVi is to make navigating the migration process to Australia more fun and simple for clients, and the benefit of her remote 4-day structure means that she has been able to attract a team who all value being able to work to help businesses and overseas workers plan their migration pathway to Australia, and have the space to prioritise their own health and wellbeing too.
