  • “I am my authentic self every day. I created the Vanity Group because I wanted to show up to work everyday as Karleen. When you think about it in our jobs and our careers we spend more time working than we do with our loved ones as we do laying on our couch... I wanted to create an environment, I wanted to create a business, where I could authentically show up as Karleen, talk how I want to talk walk how I want to walk, dress how I want to dress, curse if I need to curse, express myself how I want to express it and get paid to do it so I’ve been able to figure it out. I don’t live a life where I have to code switch or I have to be one way in one environment and another way in another environment, if I cant show up every day and be Karleen I don’t want to be there.” - Karleen Roy, Founder & CEO of The Vanity Group

Karleen Roy first moved to New York after graduating from Howard University and quickly landed an unpaid internship in the PR department at Def Jam Records. Working her way up in the industry, Karleen was later brought on as Sean "Diddy" Comb's senior executive assistant at Bad Boy Entertainment coordinating all efforts of his multi-billion dollar business entities and arranging all details of his complex social itinerary and whirlwind private life. It was during her time at Bad Boy Entertainment she gained the confidence, expertise and connections to create a business environment that was so authentically Karleen Roy... and in 2013 she founded The Vanity Group. The Vanity Group is a creative events agency specializing in producing high-profile, red carpet events for some of Hollywood's biggest names including but not limited to Sean "Diddy" Combs, Cardi B, Justin Bieber and a host of other A-list brands such as NETFLIX, Amazon Music and L’OrĂ©al.

  • “For me I think deep truth is making sure that you find the time and the way to kind of get back into your brain, get back into your body. Making an assessment of what is it that really matters and making sure that continues to be your North Star. For me that’s about continuing to experiment and making sure that I find the times and the ways to do that. I think its different for everybody, but I do think that the truth is that it doesn’t happen unless you make the time and carve out the intention to bring that level of mindfulness and thought to what you’re doing, and for me that’s been pretty transformational.” - Anna Brockway

  • “When you speak things aloud, they go into your subconscious. They are things that you think about and things that, you know, remembering in yourself the things that are important to you. Whether its if you are looking for a partner or a new job or how to navigate a certain situation it is always important to remember the things that are important to you. • “In general, I think just spending more time with ourselves and alone and less on the phone, less on social media, less on people’s highlight reels
being able to have time and space to know who we are outside of all of that. I think that’s how we get to a place of authenticity and then being able to share our authentic selves.” – Nicolette Mason

  • “Look back on what you’ve been finding out. Look back on what you’ve discovered about yourself. Look back on how you have felt in the world around you and whatever you’ve gone through and you’ve probably been on the way.. no matter if you are 18 or 38 and so on and so forth.” – Lauren Chan

Lauren Chan began her career as a plus-size model in New York City and later spent time as a fashion writer for outlets like Vogue and Cosmopolitan. Lauren later became a fashion editor with Glamour overseeing the fashion features team and size inclusion beat, quickly becoming fashion's foremost expert on size inclusion. Despite her efforts she was not able to access plus-size clothes beyond cheap fast-fashion outlets. To refute that disadvantage Lauren created Henning, a luxury plus-size brand allowing women like herself to wear high-quality clothing.

Lauren’s goal: to eliminate the inequality that plus-size women face by harnessing fashion to change the way they are perceived—and, more importantly, the way they perceive themselves.

Lauren Chan also serves as an ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association and is an active Advisory Board Member for the Model Alliance.
