Jes was going about her days in autopilot. To those in social settings and at work, she would have seemed happy, put together, organised and like she has all her ducks in a row.
Internally, Jes was struggling. She was in survival mode. She had a deep hatred for herself. When Jes and her now husband, Wes reunited, a path to learning to truly love and accept herself began. You can hear the passion in Jes' voice as she discusses how her 7 year long journey has impacted her.

In this episode, Courtney chats about some of the things she would go back and tell herself pre-kids.
From not being the "fitspo" pregnant woman she imagined, to how a relationship will inevitably change and evolve after having kids, Courtney chats openly about 12 things she would go back and tell herself.
A candid reflection. But would she really want to go and tell herself all of these things? Probably not. Like many things in life, until you are living it, it is difficult to fully comprehend what that experience is like.

I'm really proud of this one & think it's worth listening to even if you don't have your own children. Supporting children to develop emotional intelligence is a gift that will serve them in all areas of life, for the rest of their life.
In this episode, I use my lens as a teacher and a parent to share with you some practical ways that you action this at home. I hope you enjoy!
Please share it around with anyone you think might benefit! ✨
Picture books to support Emotional Intelligence:
"Brain is (Not) Always Right" Scott Stuart
We love this one! It talks about how your brain and heart can have conflicting ideas. Sometimes our brain tells us we can't do things but we need to follow our heart and have a go!https://www.target.com.au/p/brain-is-not-always-right-scott-stuart/67726943
"Feelings" Kathy Gordon
This is a lift-the-flap book. We've been reading this since Beau was about 2. It shows multiple scenarios of different feelings and asks children to guess which emotion the child is feeling on each page.
https://blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/Feelings-by-Kathy-Gordon-author-Louise-Forshaw-artist/9781526381545
"In My Heart" Jo Witek
You may have seen this one around. it is ADORABLE. It has a hole cut out of a heart in the middle of the book that gradually gets smaller and smaller. Each page talks about different emotions in a really expressive way. It also uses colour to express this. This book is beautiful.

"Little Zebra is Very Kind" Jedda Robaard
A simple book about being a good friend and helping each other out. Very cute.

Self-discovery, growth journey, healing journey, self-development... You're likely seeing these words pop up a lot.
But WTF does it actually involve? What does it look like?
Courtney didn't intentionally set out to "work on herself" but now two years on since embarking on a self-discovery journey, she has come a long way.
This episode unpacks 10 things that Courtney has relied on throughout this process.
This is a great episode to listen to if you are curious about going inwards and getting to know yourself on a deeper level.
I hope you enjoy this episode & I would LOVE for you to send me a DM @heytheresunshinepod if you are on this journey too and things that you find really valuable!
