  • “ Body image is an individual sport and it's healed in connection.”

If you’re a woman, chances are you’ve had a moment (or many) of negative self-talk about your body. We’ve all been there. But what if the issue wasn’t actually our bodies at all? What if it’s a deeper emotional or psychological distress showing up in how we think and talk about ourselves? Enter Deb Schachter, a therapist, author and body image expert who’s helped countless women untangle the hidden layers of their body image struggles—and she’s here to help us do the same.

In this episode, Deb joins Erin for a fascinating deep dive into the complex world of body image. From the stories we tell ourselves to the societal and familial messages we’ve absorbed, they explore how we can begin to rewrite the narrative and build a healthier, more compassionate relationship with our bodies. Tune in as we discuss:

Why negative body image might actually be your mind’s way of flagging emotional or psychological distress—not a physical problem to fix.The impact of family messaging and conversations about body size, and how they can fuel harmful beliefs.Understanding why you want a “better body” is more important than chasing the “better body” itself. How true fulfillment comes not from achieving the ‘ideal’ body, but from nurturing your relationship with yourself and tuning into your inner voice.Practical ways to shift your self-talk from body criticism to observing and reframing your negative thoughts. The role of stories, relationships, and family dynamics in shaping how we see our bodies—and how we can break free to reclaim our authentic selves.Tips for creating a safe, judgment-free space for kids to share their thoughts on body image.

  • It’s no secret that our culture often presents aging in a negative light, particularly for women, leaving many of us uncertain or even fearful about life beyond 40, 50 or (god forbid), 60. But one iconic sitcom has challenged these stereotypes with humor, heart, and authenticity: The Golden Girls. For Maria Carpiac, a professor of Gerontology at California State University, Long Beach, and an advocate for healthy aging, The Golden Girls offers a shining example of how we can view aging with optimism and a sense of humor.

In this episode, Erin and Maria explore the complexities of aging, highlighting the importance of community, jou, and adaptability in leading a fulfilling life, with insights from The Golden Girls. From Blue Zones to finding purpose as we age, this conversation reveals how we can all live longer, healthier, and more meaningful lives—no matter what stage we're in. Tune in as we explore:

How to embrace aging instead of fearing it—it’s a journey we all share! Why "anti-aging" is a myth, and why the focus should be on aging well. The key elements of healthy aging: community, stress management, nutrition, and movement.Creative housing solutions like communal living and co-housing to foster supportive, connected communities as we age.How the media shapes our perceptions of aging and why The Golden Girls still resonates, even in today’s TV landscape.Exploring the Japanese concept of "ikigai" (reason for being) and its role in aging well. Why retirement isn’t just about money—it’s about staying engaged and connected. The dangers of conflating normal aging with disease, and how healthcare biases affect aging women.

  • “I’m in a phase of my life where I want to f*cking shine. I do not want to shrink.”

Sometimes we just need to admit we’re mad.  While society may not always make space for women's anger, when we reflect on the challenges we face today,  it can be hard not to feel it. Why do women still carry the heaviest load of care in relationships? Why are we still criticized for our ambition and judged for maintaining our independence?

In today’s conversation, producer Erica joins us as we dive into these questions and more. We’re not holding back, and we’re definitely in our feels. Here’s what we’re unpacking:

Why women often bear the emotional labor in relationships, managing not just their own feelings but also the well-being and self-esteem of their partners. How patriarchy’s grip leaves women shouldering more at home, even in seemingly progressive partnerships. How the very traits that make women successful— independence, competence, and resilience— can be weaponized against us.Freeing ourselves to express anger to mitigate the build up of stress and resentment.Re-examining our relationships with men—not just as wives and mothers, but as individuals who deserve care and support too.Exploring financial freedom, communal living, and the pursuit of independence. The challenge of finding emotionally intelligent partners who respect boundaries.
