Betting on yourself and taking a risk (especially on an idea that's been sitting with you forever) is scary! But it's necessary. We sit down with Linda, founder of The Ugly Bao, to dive into the journey of self-confidence, resilience, and the art of unapologetically choosing yourself. After securing a high paying job after earning a million degrees, Linda shares her story of stepping into a family business (with a unique vision) and discusses how she embraced what some might call "cockiness" to stay true to her vision and goals. We explore the uncomfortable yet empowering decision to go full in on her dream and the guts it takes to stick up for your business choices (and have to set up a tent and mini kitchen).

Whether it's organizing a group project at 32 or speaking up to boomer women at work - we dig into the uncomfortable habit of over-functioning and feeling like you're always taking the lead. We explore why women, especially, are conditioned to minimize themselves and constantly question their actions.
Join us as we hear personal stories, discuss sibling dynamics, and unpack the idea of being the "fixer." We ask the big question: Is it really about being 'too much,' or is it about being helpful and necessary? We even bring in a male perspective to see if this experience is universal! Tune in to find out if youâre truly 'too much,' or just right.
Don't forget to answer our poll: Do you relate to feeling like you're constantly over-functioning for others? Let us know!

A few drinks post breakup, a discussion about self-worth, and the revelation of "alpha male" texting techniques led Vanessa and Melissa down the rabbit hole of alpha male influencers. Marketed as self-improvement (which we love) these influencers often lose the plot and warp into misogyny and toxic ideologies.
When did men start believing that society is stacked against them? We trace the roots of the red pill movement and the alarming echo chambers many men find themselves in when they try to seek out support and growth.

Ever felt like when it's good it's really good, and when it's bad it's awful? Maybe one moment your partner is lovey-dovey, and the next, theyâre cold and distant. Maybe you feel like you're the only one holding the relationship together. These are just some of the warning signs that you may be in a toxic relationship.
We share our experiences of having been in them ourselves and the emotional exhaustion that comes with constantly putting the other person first trying to make things work.
With the help of a short video from TikTok user @awakeningwithbrian we discuss the types of people who find themselves in this dynamic and why people find themselves in these painful relationships in the first place â and how to get out of them.
Are you ready to recognize when it's time to let go?

Laying in bed with her boyfriend, content and happy, Vanessa suddenly thought: "Enjoy it while it lasts!" then: "WTF?" Ever find yourself waiting for something bad to happen, or thinking about what could go wrong, just when you're at your happiest? That's foreboding joyâa defense mechanism where we brace ourselves for bad news or disappointment when things are going well (a term popularized by Dr. BrenĂ© Brown).
"Remember when you were happy once, and then it turned bad? It can happen again." It's this fear that can sometimes make joy feel so terrifying, even though our brain is just trying to protect us.
We discuss how foreboding joy shows up in our relationships and share ways we've learned to combat this fear of losing control.

It might SOUND gross, but having a "rot" day may just be exactly what you need! "Rot day" seems to have originated as a concept on TikTok, where users share content related to self-care, relaxation, and indulgence. It's essentially a designated day to take a break from the usual responsibilities and activities to focus on prioritizing your well-being and recharge your batteries. We go over a few basic components to help you create the PERFECT rot day and share our own indulgences from a Popeye's meal to yummy smoothies.

If you've ever had a friend disappear after getting into a relationship (or if you've been that friend...) you know balancing your friendships and your relationship can be challenging! Who do you prioritize when date night lands on the same night your friends want to hang? How do you manage your expectations of your friend's time if they're in a new relationship, or if they get married? In this episode we respond to TikTok user Kaj Mahal's list of "How to have friends while being in a relationship".
We discuss the idea that one person cannot fulfill all your needs, the importance of retaining your own personality when in a relationship, and important boundaries that need to be set â like maybe not sharing every single thing about your significant other to your whole friend group. Of course, we also dish on our own personal experiences being both the friend in the relationship and the single friend.

Sometimes doing something new or scary can feel impossible - what will people think? What if I fail? We get stuck on the "right" way to do something or the "right" choice to make that we actually end up feeling stuck (and doing nothing at all). We get into the clingy "what-ifs", how to face the actual worst case scenario, and ways to take small actions (that may lead to surprising outcomes!)

It sometimes feels like college was just yesterday. Other days you realize it isn't as close as it once was. Millennials specifically have faced a lot of L's (losses) in comparison to our parents - from being told our coffee or avocado toast habits are the reason we can't buy a house to college costing 100x more to putting off having kids/getting married because "in this economy!?" When we came across TikTok user @imsadalex 's response to @aimeecarty 's "2 Days Into College" video, we actually cried. We discuss the things we thought we wanted or would have achieved by a certain age, what's important to us now, and get into why the Daily's "It Sucks to be 33" thinks we're experiencing these passing "milestones".

We think of voice as a product, an end result, but how often have you thought about what it feels like as it's leaving your body? Have you been in talk therapy repeating the same patterns of ideas? Carrie and Ellen join us in this episode to talk about sound as play, the neuroscience of sound, and share how somatic work allows us to come back to our bodies in a way that can be deeply healing.
SmashUp Somatics compassionately and playfully explores the felt sense of the body in connection with emotions, with a focus on the voice, gentle movement and body awareness. Tune in for some uncomfortable sounds and a lot of laughs.
