Now, on to our episode! You’ve probably heard that data is the new oil. But did you know that understanding what data to gather… and how to use that data... is also creating lots of opportunities? We’re talking not only opportunities for those seeking jobs or starting a business, but also for those who already have a job or a business… or might even be looking for a good investment.

More importantly, Ben points out where the opportunities lie with data analysis. Interestingly, these apply as much if not more to those who already have jobs or own businesses, than those seeking jobs or businesses! Beyond that, Ben provides some great tips for either of those groups on how to seize these opportunities. This includes a trove of FREE resources his company offers.

  • Hi everyone.

Did you know there’s a global movement to solve some of our world’s biggest problems by helping those with the greatest needs become self-sufficient? This movement is being led by all kinds of people and organizations: nonprofits, for profits, specialists, technicians, entrepreneurs, and investors. My guest expert on this episode, Dr. Courtney Cash, is one of those leading the way in these social entrepreneurship endeavors.

On this episode, Courtney discusses such things as (1) how market-based solutions and social enterprise are being used to help solve some of the world's biggest problems, (2) what factors are driving this trend, (3) how focusing on sending large sums of money to organizations or societies in need can actually be counterproductive, and (4) where the marriage of social enterprise and market-based solutions is taking hold around the world.

Courtney then lays out myriad opportunities that are being created by this emerging global trend for just about anyone: job seekers, entrepreneurs, freelancers, and what he calls the "impact investors." He also shares his thoughts on how this trend will evolve through the rest of this decade. And, of particular value, he offers some tips to help people identify and seize these opportunities.

Now a bit about Courtney: Dr. Courtney Cash is President of the World Shoe Fund, where he served as the lead strategist in the development of the World Shoe social enterprise. Dr. Cash is also the founder of Simply Strategic Consulting, with almost 30 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, ministry, and consulting. His work has helped to expand the capacity of nonprofits to impact thousands of people in more than 50 countries through strategic planning, storytelling, donor engagement, and impact collaborations.

Dr. Cash is a seminary-trained nonprofit and ministry leader with degrees and certifications in education, leadership, and business. In 2018, he was awarded a Certificate of Achievement in Nonprofit Fund Development by the Mendoza College of Business of the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Cash also currently serves as Executive in Residence at the Berry College Campbell School of Business, where he mentors young entrepreneurs and teaches courses in social entrepreneurship and nonprofit management.

Currently, his research is focused on the development of multi-sectoral social enterprise models, market-based solutions for scaling the work of nonprofits, and the use of collective impact strategies to address major social challenges in local communities and larger international ecosystems.

  • Hi everyone.

Over the past couple of years or so, millions and millions of people have become aware of the presence of artificial intelligence. Like the Internet itself, AI promises to be a major part of our business and personal lives for decades to come. But how much do we know about all the opportunities AI is and will create? My guest expert, Manuj Aggarwal, enthusiastically discusses these opportunities and much more on this episode.

Listen as Manuj speaks about such things as (1) when AI first began to take off as companies like Amazon, Tesla, and Facebook recognized and capitalized on its power, (2) the catalyst that has made AI accessible to the public-at-large, (3) the big trend in AI today, and where that trend is taking us, and (4) who's leading the way in the adoption and use of AI. SPOLIER ALERT: Manuj says it is NOT the U.S.

Looking into the future, Manuj talks about what might be the implications on human behavior as AI becomes more advanced over time.... yet another surprise! He then lays out the many opportunities he sees AI creating for job, career, business, and investment seekers. He says these are going to be directly related to the advancing AI's capabilities, or they'll employ AI in ways that expand people's ability to identify and seize new opportunities. Finally, Manuj offers some great tips for anyone from a job seeker to an investor on how to thrive as AI becomes further embedded in our societies.

We all know that water is vital for all of us. But did you realize there are huge opportunities out there for those who, among other things, can help recycle water or remove the waste from it?? My guest expert, Riggs Eckelberry, discusses these opportunities and much more on this episode.

On the episode Riggs speaks about such things as (1) the challenges our present water infrastructure faces both in the U.S. and around the globe, (2) the "perfect storm" that's driving these challenges, and (3) who it is, by far, that demands the most water, and why that's "where the money is." Hint: This one may surprise you!

Riggs then explains how the use of water technology, or "aquatech," can help address some of the challenges he identifies. He sheds light on a wide array of opportunities that anyone from a job seeker to an entrepreneur to an investor can seize upon in tackling issues like water treatment and water recycling. Finally, Riggs provides tips and resources that will help you begin to capitalize on the many opportunities this relatively new world of water technology offers.

He is even pioneering the development of "water stablecoins,” a cryptocurrency backed by water-assets.

  • Hi everyone.

Did you know there’s a multi-billion-dollar GLOBAL opportunity in the transportation industry?  It happens to be one that’s not widely known. It has to do with shipping freight and, in this case, with those who help to do that, otherwise known as freight brokers. My guest expert, Jason Bauch, owns businesses which focus on freight brokering.

On this episode, Jason speaks about (1) his unusual path to getting involved in freight brokering, (2) some of the biggest changes and challenges taking place in the freight brokering space, (3) the global nature of the business, and (4) the gargantuan projected growth in freight brokering during this decade.

Most importantly, Jason identifies at least three opportunities for people to enter the freight brokering business, and he offers some helpful tips on who's best suited for this kind of work, and how they can get started.

Now a little bit more about Jason. Jason began his logistics career in 1997 as a driver. After a serious driving accident, he then moved into the office and managed a fleet of over 30 trucks. Later, he transitioned to the brokerage side of the business and has spent the last 22 years learning, innovating, and developing personally, professionally, and financially.

Jason possesses vast knowledge of the transportation industry as a whole-- including dealing with temperature-controlled products-- as made evident by his impressive list of customers in the food industry.

Jason is an owner of 3 businesses. 360 Freight Solutions focuses on building long-term relationships with carriers (typically, truck companies) and customers, those who have products or goods to ship. https://www.360freightsolutions.com/

His second business is Brokerz Edge, which is intended to combat misinformation about the industry and teach people how to earn a multiple 6-figure income in the freight brokering business. https://www.brokerzedge.com/

His newest company, Luramiles, is a logistics company that removes the bottlenecks in the transportation industry. Think of it as like an Amazon for freight.  Luramiles helps small-to-mid-sized trucking companies get exposure to more customers by improving the flow of information and communication https://luramiles.com/

You can reach Jason and learn about his companies through any of the websites shown above, as well as on various social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.

Having been involved in all aspects of the pet industry for 57 years, my guest expert, Phil Cooper, knows all about these opportunities.

Among other things, you'll hear Phil speak about (1) the latest trends in pet ownership, products, services, and spending, (2) one major part of the world where the pet industry is growing in leaps and bounds, (3) how Millennials and Gen Z'ers are looking at their pets differently than the generations before them, and (4) a staggering projection about the future growth of the pet industry over the next decade.

Most importantly for you, Phil identifies numerous opportunities for anyone from teenagers, to adult job/career seekers and changers, to entrepreneurs, to investors in the pet industry. And he provides some great, practical tips on how you can begin to seize one or more of those opportunities.

Now a little bit more about Phil. For 57 years, Phil Cooper has been living his passion for animals by working in the pet industry.  Phil started his career as a small retailer, became a distributor, a national salesperson, and has a series of industry firsts -- like owning the first Pet Super Store in the United States before PetSmart or Petco.  Phil has traveled the world, selling and making connections with the biggest and best in the pet industry.

As the largest volume pet product manufacturer’s representative in the pet industry for many years, Phil Cooper represented many large and small firms building a wide range of pet items in all categories. He worked with some of the founders of the pet industry, building large pet brands. He has been owned, turned-around, and launched many pet companies, including Inoby’s Pet Products, a division of Yammanuchi Pharmaceutical, Munchkin/Bamboo Inc., The Brinkmann Corp., Phillips Pet Supply/K-Line, Hydor, Pets International LTD, Resco and iClean Dog Wash.  Revenue ranges were from $1 million to $350 million and many were startups.

  • Hi everyone.

Did you know that buildings are responsible for 40% of greenhouse gas emissions, and that of all the buildings that will exist in 2040, 2/3 already exist today? Well it turns out, that creates enormous opportunities for those who want to remove the carbon from those buildings. My guest expert, Owen Barrett, serial entrepreneur, and founder and president of Rayven, speaks with me about these opportunities and much more on this episode.

Among other things, Owen discusses (1) what the impetus was for him to get involved in decarbonizing commercial real estate properties, (2) one major trend that's stimulating interest in clean technology in the United States, (3) how other countries actions on climate change and decarbonization differ in some ways from those of the U.S., and (4) an exciting development that could be a game changer for tackling climate change in the future.

Most importantly for you, Owen identifies numerous opportunities for entrepreneurs, job and career changers, and investors spawned by the commercial real estate decarbonization effort. And he gives you some great tips to get you started on that path.

Now a little bit more about Owen. Since earning a bachelor’s degree in finance, cutting his teeth in the financial industry, and earning a master’s degree in environmental science and management, Owen’s been on a professional rampage, pushing complacency and bureaucracy aside, and decarbonizing our economy at an impressive rate. Owen’s a three-time founder in the clean tech space, with one successful exit.

As a Global Energy Manager for a Fortune 500 company for three years, Owen implemented $60 million of clean technology. Combining his experience in fuel cells, solar PV, energy storage, LED lighting, and HVAC optimization, Owen left to launch lumeo, a niche energy service company. Within three years, lumeo hit eight figures in revenue and helped forty school districts implement energy efficiency and renewable energy.

After a successful exit from lumeo, and nearly a decade in the clean technology industry, Owen started ZNE Capital and pivoted to buying commercial real estate for the purpose of decarbonizing it. In just three years, Owen acquired and partially decarbonized $96M of multifamily properties.

While ZNE Capital proves to have a successful business model, the rampant inauthenticity within the institutional impact investing space made it challenging for ZNE Capital to make impact at scale. Owen founded Rayven to decarbonize existing buildings at scale.

Rayven is the world’s first net-zero real estate investment platform. Every property they buy is converted to true net zero (no offsets involved). By partnering with thousands of authentic, retail-impact investors, Owen, Rayven, and every single investor will decarbonize the world, one apartment building at a time. Rayven is Owen’s Sistine Chapel and the culmination of a decade in sustainability.
