Our interview today is the perfect example of why I created this podcast. I walked away from my talk with Dr. Jenny Wang feeling very emotional, moved, and inspired. As Asian Americans, we both have commonalities in our upbringing, yet each have a very special story that is our own. Dr. Wang shares with us what her purpose-driven journey has looked like over the years, and gives a unique and powerful explanation of mental health.
Dr. Jenny Wang is a Taiwanese American clinical psychologist and national speaker on Asian American mental health and racial trauma in the Asian American community. Her work focuses on the intersection of Asian American identity, mental health, and social justice. She is the founder of the Asians for mental health community.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I recently contracted COVID-19. I tested positive after taking a trip to Seattle to visit my parents. We wore masks, sanitized, and took all the precautions we knew how to. However, I know now that traveling still comes with risk no matter how prepared you are.
In today's episode I want to share with you where I believe I contracted the virus and the moment I knew I needed to take a test. I'll describe what my first symptoms were and how they progressed over time. The virus slowly made it's way through my family with the exception of my youngest kids. Luckily we are all okay and almost fully recovered after experiencing mild cases. Stay safe and continue to wear your masks friends!

No matter how many books you read and classes you take, becoming a mother is not something anyone can prepare you for. My guest, Michelle Tangeman, wholeheartedly agrees. As a licensed marriage and family therapist, as well as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Michelle was likely more informed than most women about raising babies. I'm grateful to have a very special guest on the show today. Her name is Celina Wright, and she is my daughter's speech therapist. She is like a part of my extended family, as she has been one of our greatest supporters during our special needs journey.
Celina is a child of God, mother, speech therapist and advocate for people. She was introduced to the world of special needs first as a mother and then as a professional. Her oldest son, Jacob, has forever changed the course of her life and her family's life. She is indebted for his presence in her life which set into motion her growth as a mother and her passion as a speech therapist. 11 years later and she is still on fire for the field she works in. Helping families and students is a calling. She's grateful for the spaces and relationships this calling has brought her to.
This episode is extra special because Ms. Celina shares her experiences as both a professional in the world of speech therapy, and also a mother of a special needs child. Whew, this year just doesn't get any easier does it friends? I'm feeling a lot of nervousness and anxiety about our country's current state and life in general. As hard as it is, I also believe this is a collective awakening and a time of transformation for many of us. All of these emotions that we are feeling is a lot like motherhood, especially when you become a mom for the first time.
Motherhood affects us in ways that we could never anticipate. The surprising thing is that this new role often changes every aspect of your life - your priorities, your inner thoughts, and your relationship with your partner, friends, and other family members. Do you have a love/hate relationship with social media? This seems to be a fairly common opinion. We often hear only negative things about social media platforms, and the effect that it has on our lives. Many of these concerns are valid. I haven't always understood the value of networking. I used to think the word networking sounded fake and forced. I thought it was something that people did just for opportunity. If you follow me on Instagram, you may know that my sweet dog, Bibi died unexpectedly a couple weeks ago. I've always wanted to do a podcast episode about pets, I just never knew it would be during these circumstances.
My father is a vet, so I've grown up around animals my entire life. I've been present for the birth and death of animals, but this experience has been different for me. Bibi was so important to me and my family, and I have had a difficult time accepting that she is gone.
In this episode, I'm sharing how I've been feeling since Bibi's death. I've learned that people grieve differently, especially men and women. I am a very sensitive and empathic person, so it's taking me a long time to come to terms with what's happened. In this episode I also discuss:

It was so nice to sit down and record this episode with my good friend, Sally Kim. Sally is a teacher turned stay at home mom and blogger who runs Lovestalgia- a nostalgic life, lived with love. I have been working from home for about six years now. Let's be real though, working from home during COVID-19 is not the same. I've been having a difficult time juggling motherhood and work during this time.
With four kids at home and my husband working full days, I am struggling to make it all work. I literally cannot even take a shower alone! I'm feeling the pressure of managing my business and my home, as well as guilt for not having the time to play and relax with my children, who I know are bored of being at home all day.
Today I wanted to do an episode of my honest feelings of parenting during this pandemic. I know I'm not the only one feeling this way! I mostly want you to know that if you're feeling overwhelmed and stressed out right now, you're most definitely not alone.
