ROSIE MEEK ON THE NEW GOVERNMENTS’ PROPOSED PRISON REFORM AND THE IMPORTANCE OF SPORTS INTIATIVES IN PRISONS
For the final episode of this series of the #MondayMile podcast, I’m joined by a very special guest, Professor of Forensic Psychology and my yoga buddy Rosie Meek!
Rosie is an incredibly impressive woman, from working with the United Nations to demonstrating the value of sport interventions in preventing youth crime, using sport as a tool for good.
We discuss how increasing sports initiatives in prisons and in youth centres will not only help to prevent crime but will improve the mental and physical wellbeing of those who are incarcerated.
We take a deep dive into the new governments’ intentions for prison reform, discussing how it’s an opportunity to reduce the pressure on prisons to allow for more educational and therapeutic programs that can lead to fewer instances of reoffending and safer communities.

This week on @Monday_mile_series I’m taking a stroll through Henley on Thames with a lady who knows these waters very well…@erinmwj, a Paralympic rowing gold medallist and breast cancer survivor.
At 29 Erin was diagnosed with breast cancer, which has led to her now being an advocate for early detection and diagnosis. That diagnosis didn’t hold her back though as she competed in the Rowing World Cup, winning gold just four days after her diagnosis and then going on to win the 2022 European Championships whilst on chemo – what a superhuman!
In this down to earth chat we delve into what it takes to be a coxswain, how she learnt to find the boundary between friend and leader with her fellow rowers and how this helped them to win gold. We take a deep dive into her cancer diagnosis, how she tackled the news with a resilient and incredibly positive attitude that carried her through the rest of her treatment.
Erin’s story is so inspirational, it was such an honour to hear it!

This week on @monday_mile_series, it’s me and @markwogan13 – the culinary legend behind @spooningwithmarkwogan and @homesliceldn It’s a chat full of food and fitness this week, and there’s no better man to do it with.
As a person with a self-described addictive personality, Mark has lived a life of extremes. These days, though, he’s all about balance: he treats his body well with ice baths and exercise, but he also fuels himself with perfect pizza from his restaurant Homeslice. He only eats the whole thing occasionally.
And of course, we chat about his hit podcast Spooning, which is NOT about cuddling in bed, I discovered. Head over to Mark’s page to see my episode with @katyajones – right after listening to Monday Mile of course.
Thank you Mark for such an interesting and introspective chat!

I’m joined by a literal legend in this week’s Monday Mile – the one and only Sue Barker. She’s an ex-professional tennis player turned world class sports broadcaster, best known for her coverage of Wimbledon, the Olympics and Question of Sport. She’s a huge role model for me, and I’m so proud to call her a friend.
Sue tells me the story of how she broke down barriers to succeed in the male-dominated field of sports broadcasting, landing several prestigious presenting roles. She’s synonymous with Wimbledon, and she returned to Centre Court just weeks ago to say an emotional farewell to Andy Murray, whose final professional matches take place this week. Her rundown of his career is a fascinating insight from someone who had a front row view of it all.
With her legacy cemented, she’s keen to see others thrive in the positions where she made her name – including me! She’s helped me immensely, and I’m so happy to be able to give you all a taste of her wisdom too.

Another week of the #MondayMile podcast, and I’m joined by the ‘Prince of Peckham’ - BMX superstar @kyewhyte
Kye has been riding since the age of 3, joined by his brothers on the track. With their dad coaching them too, it's clear BMX runs in his blood.
He won a silver medal at his first Olympic games at the INCREDIBLE age of 21, becoming the first ever British athlete to win a medal for BMX racing – how insane!
We delve deep into Kye’s childhood, growing up in Peckham and how BMX ‘kept [him] on the right path’. We even discuss that iconic moment that appeared in every British newspaper, where he picked up his friend and teammate @bethanyshriever after she clinched the gold medal
Kye is a true champion of the people, and I can’t wait to see him smash it in Paris. Fingers crossed for the gold!

We chat about the duality of Richard’s career - going from the marathon to the 200m and back again - and how he’s quite literally pushing the boundaries of sport to compete and advocate for disabled athletes.
Richard and I also dig into the topic of inclusivity in the Paralympics. He shares his thoughts on what can be improved, the responsibility on the shoulders of all Paralympic and Olympic athletes, as well as how all members of society can contribute. It’s quite the call to action.

We’re finishing Season 11 of #MondayMile with a big one, as this week, entrepreneur, TV star and podcast host @spencermatthews joins me for a stroll.
It’s 3 miles around Battersea Park, which is light work for the man who’s currently prepping for a frankly SUPERHUMAN challenge – 30 marathons in 30 days across the Sahara Desert It’s never been done, and if you’re not convinced that it’s possible, you will be by the time you’ve heard our chat.
Spencer talks me through his motivations for this world-record attempt. He’s got ambitious fundraising goals for a noble charitable cause, which he speaks passionately about, but there’s something personal in there too. Spencer is driven, and it’s illuminating to hear how he’s managed to take a complete U-turn from his self-destructive, boozy lifestyle to one of routine and discipline. From his fears, his family and finding balance, we cover it all, and I’m left feeling really inspired.
Thank you Spencer, and best of luck!

Things get very WAK-y on this week’s #MondayMile, as I take a trip out to Hertfordshire to meet YouTube LEGENDS @woodyandkleiny. They were some of the first big content creators in the UK, and I go behind the scenes to find out the secret to their longevity
Woody and Kleiny are definitely known as jokers, so I’m surprised to see just how professional their operation is. As we take laps round the garden of their base of operations, the WAK Pad, they tell me about their journey from freestyle football performers on Britain’s Got Talent, to internet sensations with billions of a views and a robust content creation machine powering them.
Across an inspiring chat, they share advice for aspiring content creators, their proudest moments of the past decade, and their belief in the law of attraction and manifestation – something we can definitely agree on!
Thanks for having me, lads!
