The latest unemployment figures for the three months to September 30th have been released by Stats NZ. They show the rate continues to rise and is now sitting at 4.8%, up from 4.6% in the June quarter.
Annual wage growth also slowed, down to 3.8% from 4.3%.

Auckland eye doctor Philip Polkinghorne, who was charged with and then acquitted of murdering his wife Pauline Hanna, has been sentenced to 150 hours of community work after a judge said a fine would not have been appropriate.

Police have offered a $100,000 reward in relation to the murder of Arthur Easton 39 years ago in Papakura.
