  • EPISODE 300...The journey of a singer-songwriter is often filled with challenges that go beyond the glamorous image portrayed by reality TV shows like *The Voice*, *American Idol*, and *America's Got Talent*. While these platforms promise fame and fortune, the reality is that they often don't deliver lasting success. True artistry and recognition take years of dedication, perseverance, and frequently, the road less traveled. My guest today, Wilkes, has navigated this complex world, finding his voice through mainstream avenues Wilkes was when in the Christian band "Disciple." Join me as I walk in his shoes and explore the highs and lows of his musical journey.

  • PLEASE TAKE DISCRETION IN LISTENING TODAY, IF RAPE AND MURDER ARE IN YOUR BACKGROUND. What would happen if you were wrongly accused of something? Has that ever happened? My guest today is Jeff Deskovic was wrongfully imprisoned for 16 years, from the age of 17 to 32, for a rape and murder he did not commit. The injustice of losing his youth to a crime he never committed had a profound impact on his life. His wrongful conviction not only stripped him of his freedom during the critical years of his young adulthood but also left deep emotional scars. The time he spent behind bars shaped his worldview, altering the course of his life in ways that can never be fully repaired. Upon his release, Jeff faced the daunting challenge of rebuilding a life that had been unjustly stolen from him, grappling with the lingering effects of trauma, lost opportunities, and the struggle to find his place in a world that had moved on without him. • SEASON FINALE OF DEAR...

When was the last time you attended a funeral or a celebration of life service? Over the years, I've found myself in those seats many times. I wish I could say it gets easier each time, but unfortunately, it doesn’t. During these moments, I often reflect on what I could have or should have said. I know I’m not alone in feeling this way.

At one of these services, the pastor shared words of encouragement that stayed with me, and I hope they resonate with you too: love the ones you're with, hug the ones you can, miss the ones you should, but sometimes, we ultimately have to let them goβ€”not from our hearts, but from our grasp.

As we wrap up this season of Other People's Shoes, we look forward to sharing more stories with you in the fall.

    πŸ‘Ÿ

Miss Me, But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road

And the sun has set for me,

I want no rites in a gloom-filled room,

Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a littleβ€”but not for long

And not with your head bowed low.

Remember the love that we once shared,

Miss me, but let me go.

For this journey that we all must take

    And each must go alone;

It’s all a part of the Master’s plan

A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart

Go to the friends we know,

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.

Miss me, but let me go.

    πŸ‘Ÿ

Looking forward to next week as we start season 18 called "Homecoming"

  • Think about marriage for a moment. Who is a could that you know that has been married the longest. Three days ago my wife Elizabeth and I just celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary. My guest today is Kyle Jetsel. Kyle shares losing his wife of 30 years felt like the world stopped spinning for Kyleβ€”a void that seemed impossible to fill. The silence in the house was deafening, the weight of her absence almost unbearable. Yet, in the depths of that pain, Kyle knew he had to find a way forwardβ€”not just for himself, but for their children and the legacy they had built together. He chose to find strength in the love they shared, letting that love fuel his days instead of his grief. Kyle began to focus on living a life that honored her memory, finding reasons to smile again, to breathe deeply, and to inspire others to cherish every moment with their loved ones. Through this journey, he realized that the best way to honor her was to live fully, love well, and leave a legacy that their children could carry forwardβ€”a legacy of resilience, kindness, and an unshakable belief in the power of love. Join me as I walk in Kyle's pearl white Lebron James signature shoes.

  • What is something that you absolutely, can't stand? I tried once making a list. If you were to make a list where would grief fall in the rankings? My guest today is Chelsea Ohlemiller. She wrote this brand new book called "Now That She's Gone". Chelsea is here to share her story about grief. Grief is profoundly challenging to cope with because it encompasses a wide range of intense emotions, from deep sorrow and anger to confusion and guilt. This emotional turbulence often arises from the loss of a loved one, a significant life change, or an unfulfilled dream, leading to a sense of emptiness and helplessness. The process of grieving disrupts our daily lives, impacting our mental and physical health. To navigate through grief, it is essential to allow oneself to feel and express these emotions rather than suppressing them. Seeking support from friends, family, or professional counselors can provide comfort and understanding. Additionally, engaging in self-care practices, such as maintaining a routine, exercising, and finding creative outlets, can help in gradually rebuilding one's life and finding a new sense of normalcy. Recognizing that grief is a personal journey and giving oneself the grace and time to heal is crucial. Join me as we walk in Chelsea's shoes.

  • Where were you on July 20, 1984? That was the day The movie "The NeverEnding Story" was released in the United States. My guest today is Nancy Bruscher. Nancy believes wholeheartedly in the fact that there is power in your story. The power of remembering and sharing your story lies in the profound connection it fosters between individuals and generations. Each person's life is a tapestry woven with experiences, lessons, and values that are uniquely theirs. These stories are not only a testament to their journey but also a beacon of wisdom and resilience for others. When we share our stories, we affirm our value and humanity, offering insights that can inspire, guide, and comfort us. Future generations, in particular, need to remember our family stories, for they are the custodians of our legacy. By preserving these narratives, they gain a deeper understanding of their roots, a sense of belonging, and the strength to navigate their own paths. In this way, our stories transcend time, becoming a vital thread in the fabric of our collective human experience. Join me as we walk in Nancy's sandals.

  • Do you love the story of Winnie the Pooh? My favorite part is the image of Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin walking with an umbrella is a powerful depiction of companionship and support. My guest today is Noah Asher. Noah talks about how as they stroll together, the umbrella shields them from the unpredictable elements, symbolizing the protective presence of friendship. Just as the umbrella guards them against the rain, having someone by our side can help us navigate the chaos of life. With its inherent ups and downs, this shared journey becomes more manageable when we have a trusted companion to lean on. The umbrella, much like a steadfast friend, provides comfort and reassurance, reminding us that we are never truly alone in facing life's storms. Join me as we walk in Noah's shoes.

  • When was the last time you heard the phrase "I know how you feel" My guest today is Cate Purvis. Cate is here to share how she found the strength to get through her miscarriages. Miscarriage is a profoundly difficult experience for women to navigate alone due to the intense emotional, physical, and psychological toll it takes. The grief and sense of loss can be overwhelming, compounded by feelings of guilt, shame, or inadequacy, even though these feelings are unfounded. Physically, the body undergoes significant changes, and the recovery process can be painful and exhausting. The emotional turmoil can lead to depression, anxiety, and isolation, especially if societal stigmas or lack of understanding prevent open conversations about the loss. The support of loved ones, friends, and professionals is crucial in providing the emotional comfort, validation, and care needed to help women heal and process their grief. • Take a moment and think about your worst day. Perhaps it was the day you dumped coffee all over yourself right before you walked into work? Maybe it was the day your baby pooped all over your brand-new pants? Or maybe it was a very sad day when a loved one died? All these examples seem dire and even awful. Did your worst day involve your job? I believe one of the hardest jobs is law enforcement. My guest today is Jared Altic. Jared has dedicated his life's work to helping law enforcement. Being in law enforcement is fraught with dangers, making it one of the most dangerous professions. Officers regularly face life-threatening situations, from confronting armed suspects to navigating high-speed pursuits. The risk of physical harm is ever-present, whether during routine traffic stops, domestic disputes, or responding to active crime scenes. Additionally, law enforcement personnel are often targets of violence and may suffer from psychological stress due to the high-stakes nature of their work. The constant exposure to danger and traumatic events can lead to long-term mental health issues, such as PTSD. Despite rigorous training and protective measures, the unpredictable nature of their duties means that law enforcement officers must always remain vigilant, underscoring the significant risks they endure to ensure public safety. Join me as I walk in Jared's shoes.

  • When is it okay to be angry at God? Is there ever a time you have found yourself in that spot? My guest today is Julie Sunne. You would like by Julie's name that never rains or Julie has never had a bad day. We all know that is completely preposterous. Recovering from five miscarriages and four live births involves a multifaceted approach addressing both emotional and physical well-being. Emotionally, it is essential to seek support from loved ones, therapists, or support groups to navigate the grief and complex emotions associated with loss. Engaging in activities that promote mental health, such as journaling, meditation, or creative pursuits, can also be beneficial. Physically, it is important to work with healthcare providers to ensure proper recovery and address any underlying medical conditions that may contribute to pregnancy loss. Regular check-ups, a balanced diet, exercise, and possibly fertility treatments or interventions might be part of the physical recovery process. Emphasizing self-care, setting realistic expectations, and allowing time for healing are crucial for regaining balance and moving forward. Join me as we delicately walk in Julie's shoes.

  • Who is the hardest person to believe and trust? My guest today is Tim Stearns. I am guessing his name isn't jumping out to you? Oh wait, wasn't he in that movie "My Blue Heaven" that great 1990 film? Fun fact he was. Sort of...Tim is here to read his letter to Bob his Step-Father that became so much more. Having an earthly father provides invaluable guidance, support, and love, serving as a foundational pillar in one's life. A father shapes a child's understanding of strength, compassion, and responsibility, helping to navigate the complexities of the world. Equally vital, however, is the relationship with our Heavenly Father. Knowing God and putting faith and trust in Jesus Christ is paramount, as He offers the ultimate salvation from sin. Jesus’ sacrifice and teachings provide a path to eternal life, peace, and a profound sense of purpose. Embracing this divine relationship enriches our lives, offering hope and an unshakeable foundation that transcends earthly challenges. Join me as I walk in Tim's shoes.

  • How do you create a safe space for young people in your life? My guest today is Keri Cooper, LCSW NBCCH. Keri specializes in Holistic Therapy for Teens and Adolescents. Most of us know this right? Teenagers today often struggle to find a safe space to express their thoughts and feelings, a challenge exacerbated by societal pressures, social media scrutiny, and academic stress. Without a supportive environment where they can openly share their emotions without fear of judgment or ridicule, many teens internalize their struggles, leading to increased anxiety, depression, and a sense of isolation. Are you creating a safe space for teenagers? Having a safe space is incredibly valuable as it allows teenagers to explore and understand their emotions, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and build resilience. This nurturing environment fosters open communication, encourages self-expression, and promotes mental well-being, ultimately helping teens navigate the complexities of adolescence with confidence and support. • What do you think about having a brother? The great value in having a brother lies in the unique and irreplaceable bond that offers a blend of companionship, support and shared history. My guest today is David Hollenbach. David shares, a brother often serves as a lifelong friend, confidant, and ally, providing a sense of security and belonging. This relationship is marked by mutual understanding and loyalty, cultivated through shared experiences and memories. A brother's presence means having someone who genuinely understands your background and can offer perspective and advice with empathy. In times of joy and hardship alike, a brother's support is steadfast, making the journey of life richer and more meaningful. However, what do you do if that brother is now gone? • What do you do when facing something hard? Do you run from it or charge after the challenge ahead of you? Today my guest is Erin Whalen. Erin shares a very vulnerable letter and the thought process behind writing it. Writing a letter to someone when it's tough can feel like navigating a maze of emotions, each turn laden with the weight of unspoken words and unresolved feelings. The act demands courage and honesty, as you grapple with the vulnerability of exposing your inner thoughts. Yet, as you pen down each word, there's a cathartic release, a sense of clarity that begins to emerge. The process, though challenging, becomes a journey of self-discovery and emotional release. When you finally seal the envelope, there's an undeniable power in knowing you've communicated something profound and true. It’s a testament to your resilience and connection with the recipient, making the effort worthwhile. Join me as we walk in Erin's shoes.

  • What comes to mind when you hear or read Africa? Is it that great 80's classic by "Toto" It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do I bless the rains down in Africa. Or is it the people? My guest today is Aron Boesl, who has a calling to the people of Africa. Aron has a powerful reason why you should too. Africa, with its diverse population and vast landscape, faces significant healthcare challenges, including limited access to medical supplies and services. MESA (Medical Equipment Supplies and Aid Sharing) addresses these critical needs by gathering and distributing excess medical equipment and supplies to developing countries, ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches those who need it most. By connecting donated medical resources to local organizations capable of dispensing and sustaining medical assistance, MESA plays a vital role in alleviating suffering and improving health outcomes. This mission is crucial in Africa, where the shortage of medical resources can mean the difference between life and death, and where timely support can empower communities to build stronger, healthier futures. • Have you ever seen a US Flag draped over a coffin? Have you seen the Service personnel fold this flag? I believe this is still one of the most impactful moments of my life, watching this take place is powerful, and emotional. Who is this "next generation" to answer this call to defend and perhaps die for this country? My guest today is Don Mann. Don is a former U.S. Navy SEAL. The U.S. Navy SEALs, officially established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, evolved from the Navy's Underwater Demolition Teams (UDTs) of World War II. These elite warriors were created to conduct unconventional warfare, specializing in direct action, special reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, and foreign internal defense. Being a U.S. patriot means embodying the values of courage, dedication, and selflessness, traits exemplified by the SEALs. It's crucial to strive to be stronger, faster, and smarter not just for personal growth, but to serve and protect the nation effectively. Individuals can contribute to a better society by doing something good for others, reflecting the SEALs' commitment to defending freedom and helping those in need. This ethos of continuous improvement and altruism strengthens individual capabilities and patriotism's collective spirit. Join me as we try on Don Mann's shoes.

  • When you think of the Northern Lights what comes to mind? My guest today is Amber Fuhriman. Amber writes a letter to her dad and shares why he made such an impact on her life. The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, paint the Arctic skies with a mesmerizing dance of vibrant colors. This celestial spectacle, resulting from charged particles from the sun colliding with gases in the Earth's atmosphere, creates a breathtaking display of swirling hues predominantly seen in regions near the North Pole. From emerald greens to vivid purples and shimmering blues, the auroras weave a tapestry of light against the dark canvas of the night sky, captivating observers with their ethereal beauty and mystical allure. Enveloped in a sense of wonder, those fortunate enough to witness this natural phenomenon are treated to a fleeting glimpse of the universe's awe-inspiring grandeur. • Where were you in 1985? The Judds were singing about an amazing Grandpa. "Grandpa Tell me 'bout the good old days Sometimes it feels like This world's gone crazy". My guest today is Matthew Thomas. Matt is in law enforcement. Matt's bond with his grandfather, a veteran of World War II, was profound and enduring. Through stories of courage and sacrifice, his grandfather instilled in him the significance of honor, duty, and integrity. Beyond recounting tales of battlefields, he imparted invaluable life lessons, emphasizing the weight of a handshake as a symbol of trust and respect. More than a gesture, it embodied the integrity and commitment Matt's grandfather lived by. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of service to others, illustrating how one's actions can make a difference in the lives of those around them. Matt's grandfather taught him about history and the essence of being a compassionate and conscientious individual, leaving an indelible mark on his character and values. Join me as we walk in Matt's shoes.

  • What are the best two words in the English language? I believe the best two words are "next time". My guest today is Lee Ann Mancini. Lee Ann believes, that parents who choose not to raise their children in the Christian faith may miss out on its rich tapestry of values, traditions, and community. Christianity provides a moral compass and a purpose rooted in love, compassion, and service to others. By instilling these principles, parents can help guide their children through life's challenges and foster a deeper understanding of empathy and kindness. Additionally, the Christian community often provides a supportive network where families can find belonging and encouragement. While each family's beliefs and choices are deeply personal, embracing the teachings of Christianity can offer a profound source of guidance and fulfillment for both parents and children alike. Join me as we try on Lee Ann's Nike shoes.
