Marc recently won the World Crazy Golf Championship marking his 4th win of this tournament since 2018. They talk about his history with minigolf, the World Crazies specifically and why winning that tournament is so special. They also discuss his thoughts on minigolf in general and ask him to put on his development hat to chat about how other places can replicate the success of the Crazies.

    After that they spend some time chatting about the recent results of the M.C Mini Masters (an AMA event) and look forward to a couple AMA events on the July schedule. {77:13}

  • Tom and Pat are back in the "studio" remembering how to podcast after catching up on sleep from the World Adventure Golf Masters (WAGM). They dive deep into WAGM (4:15) giving a quick overview of the tournament in total and then talking about Tom's experience as a rookie there. This leads to all sorts of discussion about the international style of play at these tournaments and where they see ways the US game can improve and grow at that level.

    It was then time to touch on the results of a handful of recent events like the World Crazy Golf Championship (57:50), the AMA 1st Rosebud Open {1:03:30}, the AMA Salty Seagull tournament (1:05:52), the PPA National Invitational (1:08:05) and a recent Putting World event (1:10:03). They find their way again by the end of the episode to wrap up looking at some upcoming events in June/July (1:11:00). This episode may have gotten wondering at times but there was a lot going on since they chatted last!

  • Tom and Pat kick off the show with a look at the WMF's World Adventure Golf (WAG) Tour final, which sets the stage for our interviewees (3:50). With the AMA (and minigolf in general) season now in full gear they looked at two recent tournaments in NJ and MN (15:24) and then ran through a bunch of US and international results (28:15).

    After all the updates, it was time to bring on Dave Vayda and Caleb Smith from Connecticut who made the WAG Tour final based on their placement in the Matterhorn International Pro-Am in 2023 (36:50). Pat has been working with both as they prepped for the final and the interview was just after they returned form the Czech Republic. For both, it was their first international competition. They chatted about the difficulty of the tournament, the amazing atmosphere around the tournament by players and organizers and just the overall experience of the trip.

  • It's been long overdue that we sit down with fellow minigolf enthusiast Richard Gottfried, he of the Crazy World of Minigolf Tour and a Guinesss World Record holder. Given the massive amount of courses Tom, Pat and Richard have visited and their overall pulse on the industry, this episode focused on the trends we are all seeing in recreational minigolf. We talk electronics, bar-tainment, chains expanding and more on different gameplays and course styles. There's speculation on the cycles of minigolf and where we might be when it comes to this business that certainly seems to be in a boom. There's even talk of pirate dinosaurs! We also talk quickly about some of the upcoming AMA events and the expanding AMA 2024 schedule.

  • We start off with a quick chat about some AMA tournament announcements and reminders about upcoming tournaments. Then Pat and Tom cover the recent Golf.com article (linked below) that they both contributed to as it was developed over the past month. From there they travel nearly around the world sharing the various courses, tournaments and minigolf experiences they had that made 2023 such a wild year of putting for them. They touched nearly every part of competitive and casual minigolf available - Putt Putt, CityGolf, World Championships, Masters, World Adventure Golf Tour, Popstroke, Puttshack, Swingers and more and more and more! It's a great way to look back not only at the year but the expanse of the minigolf landscape before we dive into whatever 2024 brings us.

  • Your co-hosts Tom (aka Mr. Tee) of A Couple of Putts, Pat of The Putting Penguin and fellow American Mini Golf Alliance organizer, Aaron Kaminski of O-Street, hosted a AMA player's meeting over Zoom. The quality of the recording turned out well and we wanted to make it available on the Puttcast to our listeners who are interested in developments in competitive mini golf in the US. We had a Q & A section and at the top of the episode, Tom explains what we included from that session. There were a lot of specific questions about the details of an upcoming tournament in January that didn't feel as relevant to a larger audience as the other some of the other broader questions about the AMA. We wanted to keep the episode to about 1.5 hours which we did!

  • Before getting into the nitty gritty of the American Mini Golf Alliance (AMA) season, Tom and Pat chat about the recent PopStroke championship event. They highlight the winners (plenty of minigolf names on the leaderboard) and have a conversation about where they see the future of that competition going. From there it is a quick look at the last of the AMA events over the past month and then a deep dive into the 2023 miniature golf season. They look at the season winners, chat about some other notable names, breakdown how the tournaments and scoring turned out then give a critical eye to what they improved on in 2023 and areas that the AMA can still strive to be better.

  • Our hosts start off looking at two AMA events that both happened the first weekend of August with the Red Putter in Wisconsin and the Maine Open at Tabers in Maine. From there it's a trip over (again) to Uppsala, Sweden and a lengthy discussion of the 2023 Minigolf World Championships General Class given Pat's time over there in the run up to the tournament. That discussion covers a lot about the differences between international championships at the highest level and what we might be used to in the US for tournaments. Finally, the guys come back to the States to cover the PPA National Championships and the most recent big money Putting World event. That's where it was wrapped up for Part 1.
