In this episode, we talk about Strangle Nationals, which today has become the biggest grappling tournament in the country. For the first time in the country, we will have an Indian representative at the ADCC Asia Trials through a tournament. We also recap a fantastic performance by one of our students, Rehan, at the Naiza FC, where he got the W in the first round via a RNC. Last but not the least, we address the elephant in the room: The debacle that was Road To UFC 2. The MMA fraternity in the country is furious on the representation. The Indian Jiu Jitsu scene is very young. The initiation probably happened in 2012 or 13, when some guys got a taste of it when they were travelling/studying abroad. Even when it started, it was all over the place. In hindsight, it was completely chaotic, as we were scrambling for information and doing whatever we could lay our hands on. OJ Stephen Kesting was a great source of information on YouTube. Some Gracie Combatives, some botched-up sequence from Marcelo Garcia, Roy Dean's white belt to blue belt DVD were some of the sources we tapped to better our game.
Then 2017, BJJ Fanatics happened. Things were finally structured. Unfortunately, only a few academies and coaches took it up on themselves to study the systems and pass on the information to others. The genius of John Danaher through his Enter The System series gave us direction. Then came the Exit The System by Garry Tonon, and John. Gordon Ryan's magical formulas for guard, pins, half-guard introduced us to the nuances of the game like never before.
Leg locks, till today, remains a scary realm for a lot of academies. Only a few chose to tread the path and started using it in competitions successfully, thus demystifying the aura around. Thanks to John, Garry, Craig Jones and Ryan Hall.
We believe, we are still at a very nascent right now. Our aim is to have someone represent the country in the ADCC trials and win. That would probably help us etch our name in the world level.
In this episode, we delve into all of these and much more. Do give it a listen. We also have some spicy bit like the Gi vs No-Gi Debate.

MFN 10 was massive. Twelve fights. Four title bouts. Telecast live on Disney Hostar. It was everything the fight fans wanted to witness at an MMA promotion. However, it was not void of some faux pas. There were some refereeing lapses, slippery mats, unnecessary camera cuts in the middle of the fights, felicitation ceremonies when people were staying up till 1am to watch the fights and clueless post-fight interviewers.
But inspite of all of it, it set a benchmark in the Indian MMA scene. In this episode, we breakdown then fights, shed lights on a few issues and give out our two pence on how it can be easily rectified.
Give the full episode a listen, as it is a fun one with some great insights. Enjoy.
