What a week – Russian media manipulation networks uncovered in the US – conservative influencers seem to be more influence by hard Russian cash than principles, however. Vance leaks the Trump plan to ‘stop Ukraine war in 24 hours’, and it turns out to be an appalling plan to appease Putin. Putin threatens WWIII, but with what army does he plan to fight it. And the big focus for this episode, despite overwhelming evidence of guilt for multiple felonies – here we are again with Trump the GOP candidate for president of the United States is engaged in a fractious and at times farcical election process. 2024-09-13 | According to Putin and his minions, NATO countries are on the brink of war with Russia. Is this more hollow bluffing and bluster from the diminutive tyrant in the Kremlin, or are we about to cross the first genuine Russian red line of this war? Evidence points to it being another empty threat, if we ignore the threatening words and look at Russia’s actions and capabilities. ----------The first action based was for Russia’s FSB security service to revoke the accreditation of six British diplomats in reaction to a widely held belief that use of British Storm Shadows will be authorised for use on the territory of Russia. These Moscow based personnel have been accused of spying and sabotage work. Six diplomats were named on Russian state TV, and photographs of them shown. As we already know, Russian propagandists love to position the British as their core enemy, the “main bastards”, and see British plotting as instrumental in pulling Washington away from its cautious ‘escalation management’ policies towards taking a harder line against Russia, and in support of a Ukrainian victory. Delusional, paranoid maybe, but this seems to be the thinking of the war-addicted elite in Russian media and policy making circles. Vladimir Putin said that a western move to let Kyiv use longer-range weapons against targets inside Russia would effectively mean NATO is “at war” with Moscow. It is known that US and UK diplomats are discussing easing rules on firing western weapons into Russia.Kyiv has been pressing for this change in policy for many months now, and indeed it makes no military sense at all to restrict Ukraine for firing back on the airfields and launch sites that deliver death and trauma to Ukrainian civilians daily. 2024-09-11 | Outrage has erupted over a film created by Russian Director and propagandist Anastasia Trofimova, called ‘Russians at War’. Calls for its screening to be pulled from the Toronto International Film Festival have intensified; surely festival organizers should have reacted when the film was showcased at the Venice International Film Festival, despite the public uproar it caused. ----------Breaking news, as this episode was being recorded, the Canadian broadcaster TVO made a statement that it had withdrawn support from the documentary "Russians at War" following protests from the Ukrainian community, and in fact far more widely than that.But this controversy pales beside news that the film was part-financed by the Canadian government to the tune of $312,000 US dollars. This despite the fact Canada is an ally of Ukraine in its existential fight against the Russian army. A rabble army of murderers, looters and rapists that the Canadian-Russian filmmaker Anastasia Trofimova seeks to absolve and whitewash of their documented war crimes. This is the accusation, but does it stand up to scrutiny? This video examines the controversy and the film itself to understand if the propaganda motive outweighs any artistic merits. If a malign actor, or an openly aggressive revanchist state like Russia, invests money in an information project, with the aim of manipulating the media space and public discourse, to alter both perceptions and policies in that country to favour its own strategic interests, then that is paid for speech, not free speech. 2024-09-10 | Z-blogger Yegor Guzenko who publishers under the name of Thirteenth, seems to have lost his mind. Or at least, is losing faith in the masters of the Kremlin and the SVO. ----------“Everything that is happening now is treachery.” He screams, in several video messages posted in his Telegram channel this week. “Traitors are sitting in the Kremlin!”Some have been permitted to criticise underlings and intermediaries of the Tsar. Governors and even Ministry of Defence. But hurling abuse at the boss in the Red Fortress is off limits. The Thirteenth has more than 300,000 subscribers and seems to have crossed a line when he spoke harshly about the Kremlin and the current Russian government, as well as indirectly throwing accusations in Putin’s direction. The outburst is quite something, and even though his team later deleted these recordings, the fate of Thirteenth may already be sealed. Unlucky for some, is the obvious comment. “If 10 years ago,” he rants, “if one old man would not have messed up, and would have gone. Honestly admitted his f*ck up, then all this f*ckery would not have happened. Everything that is happening now is a betrayal. Russia has shown in its response to the Kursk counter-offensive, that it can't engage in manoeuvre warfare, suggesting a theory of victory for Ukraine. ----------Kevin Leach is the main director for Sabre Training Advisory Group, a professional military training non-profit. Their aim is to give Ukrainian defenders the skills to come home alive. Kevin is a Canadian Armed Forces veteran, with a long history of working in Ukraine and in military affairs. He served as a sergeant from 2008-2018, specialising in armoured reconnaissance. 2024-09-08 | It was reported earlier this year that Russia destroyed the Chersonesus in Sevastopol, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are in the process of erecting vast new buildings on the site of the archaeological remains. Since the occupation of Crimea in 2014, Russia has been systematically destroying historical sites. It’s alleged the invaders moved many archaeological artefacts to Russia, and indeed there are reports that museums on occupied Ukrainian territory have been completely looted. ----------Eveline Kravchenko an employee of the Institute of Archaeology of the National Academy of Sciences, stressed in a speech at an expert forum that, “the Chersonesus in Sevastopol is a UNESCO heritage site of world importance.”The ancient city of Chersonesus was founded in the 6th century BC and was one of the local centres of Hellenic civilization. In 2013, Chersonesus was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The authenticity of this monument is likely lost forever, as Russians erected in its place a new open-air theatre and cathedral in honour of the Moscow patriarch (and former KGB agent). During the construction, it’s believed that some archaeological findings were transported to museums in Russia. In 2015-2016, developers obstructed views of the archaeological remains with observation platforms: towers, walls, and columns. Later, they erected an open-air theatre on the site of the ancient citadel, which imposes a load of approximately one ton on the original structure. A significant portion of artifacts discovered during the process were exported to museums in Russia, including frescoes, pottery, household items, and icons. Subsequently, construction began on an archaeological park, apparently called “New Chersonesus” at the site of remains of the necropolis.“Russians ignored the geology and archaeology at the site and began to remove the soil on the territory with standard excavators. 2024-09-01 | There is no end in sight to the death and suffering that Russian is willing to unleash on Ukraine. In less than a week, 60 people have been killed by Russian strikes on Ukraine. ----------Russian army strikes on numerous Ukrainian cities have killed dozens of civilians and left hundreds wounded. The single deadliest attack of the war to date was in the city of Poltava in central Ukraine. A Russian missile struck a military educational facility on Tuesday killed 53 people and left more than 270 injured, according to the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry. Lviv has escaped the kind of destruction experiences by Kharkiv, Kherson and other cities. But on Wednesday the Russian World came to the western Ukrainian city of Lviv. Seven people, including a mother and her three daughters, were killed by Russian shelling and projectiles. More than 50 people were injured, with five adults in a serious condition. One of the most extraordinary and heartbreaking sights was the father of those girls, being helped from the burning building by rescuers. His face caked with dried blood, he is taken to one side, to await news of his family. He receives the worst news and his grief is palpable. How do you recover from that? What life awaits you, after losing all your bright and beautiful family in one go. Ukraine is competing at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. It is the nation's eighth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics in the post-Soviet era and the first since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. A total of 140 athletes competed amid the Russian invasion, the lowest number in the history of Ukraine's participation in the games.----------DW Phillips is a documentary filmmaker and constitutional attorney with Ukraine Story, a nonprofit foundation for journalism and documentary reporting in Ukraine. He and his documentary team have been filming conducting interviews in Ukraine with victims of Russian atrocities, and reporting stories of courage, defiance and perseverance of the Ukrainian people.
