Earlier this year, psychic medium Jeni Juranics released an episode of her Spirit Call podcast where she opened up about what she described as a heartbreaking experience at a mediumship conference, where on more than one occasion she witnessed a fairly well-known physical medium faking seances. She decided to call out his fraudulent behavior. Heâs been called out before, but Jeniâs story seems to have struck a chord with many in the community. In this important and sometimes emotional conversation, Patrick and Jeni discuss what this means for the mediumship community, as well as the wider spiritual community. And what does it mean for our faith, our trust, and our belief? Visit BigSeance.com/254 for more info.

Fraudulent Medium Explains Himself in 2016
In this episode:
Intro :00
On April 10th of this year, Jeni Juranics released an episode of her Spirit Call podcast, where she opened up about what she described as a âheartbreaking experienceâ at this yearâs International Physical Mediumship Conference in Albany, NY. Jeni, who has quite a bit of experience sitting in development circles and seances, witnessed a fairly well-known physical medium faking seances, and she decided to call out his fraudulent behavior. If youâre wondering if this is the medium who in 2016 was caught faking evidence at the Banyan Retreat Center in the UK, thatâs the one. :45
Our guest today is Jeni Juranics, who is a psychic medium who resides in Odessa near Kingston, Ontario, Canada with her husband and two children. Sheâs been offering readings since 2016 and maintains a vibrant and genuine link to the Spirit World. Her personality and reading style have been described as down-to-earth and comforting and she brings a sense of calm to all of her sessions. 3:17
Jeni's episodes regarding this fraudulent medium have struck a chord in the community. 4:27
âIâve just been working hard to protect people from being a victim to what I experienced. And you know, I have to say, I was more a student, but I know a lot of the people that are going to these seances are grieving mothers and fathers and children that have lost their parents. And so itâs not just entertainment. Itâs not just a cool experience. People are seriously looking for their loved ones, and theyâre being deceived.â 11:03
Jeni saw the red flags with this medium for months in several seances and workshops before it finally clicked. 12:29
Normalize being okay with questioning and using your brain. 16:15
How has this experience changed the way Jeni works moving forward within her own mediumship? 19:38
When youâre already a bit skeptical. 23:30
"If you're being told what you're going to see, is that what you're going to see?" 26:16
âIs it time to say that from now on, physical mediumship needs to happen with the lights on, no exceptions?â 29:48
The 2016 video. 32:11
When it sounds like someone describing a cult. 33:04
Positive responses to the message is getting out there. 39:55
Letâs do physical mediumship differently now. 43:14
Red Flag: When a physical medium's seances are the same every time. 48:54
Clear intimidation from a medium in a mask. 54:36
Patrickâs thoughts on individuals enabling this medium, and he commends Jeni for her bravery in speaking out on her own platform, as well as this one. 59:40
Jeniâs final thoughts. 1:03:51

Join Patrick in a truly interesting conversation with author and psychic medium June Lundgren, who refers to herself as a demon seer whose specialty is getting rid of demons. Intro :00
June Lundgren is a psychic, medium, demon seer, healer, animal communicator, international author, and nurse. She is descended from a long line of women with psychic and spiritual gifts. Raised by her grandmother, she communicated with spirits, animals, and angels. She is called a demon seer because she can see, hear, communicate, and has the ability to remove and destroy negative entities. She has been helping people with their paranormal problems and animal issues most of her life. Her first book, A Mediums Guide to the Paranormal, was released in 2009. Since then, she has written several more books, including the forthcoming Dark Encounters. She is the founder of Ghosts and Girls Paranormal. June has appeared on Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures, Coast-to-Coast AM, Midnight in the Desert, and The Unexplained with Howard Hughes, to name a few. She served in the military where she trained as a nurse and EMT. After returning from the military she has continued to work in the medical field as a nurse. You can learn more about June by visiting demonseer.com. :49
What is a demon seer? 3:35
Patrick admits his skepticism. âMost people donât go out of their way to read about or discuss or even think about negative entities until either they meet someone who has an issue, or they have one themselves. Then itâs a whole different situation. I run into that quite a lot.â 5:07
After an accident, June had a near death experience where Michael the Archangel explained to her that her soul belongs to Auriel the Archangel, the demon slayer. 7:03
Detailed descriptions of demons, archangels, and the battles between them. 11:12
âLook for the eyes.â 13:49
On the topic of ghosts, June says she laughs when she watches the show the Ghost Whisperer, because that character conveniently sees one ghost at a time. âI basically draw a crowd.â 17:55
June also does her work through photographs. 19:22
Weekly meetings with the Legion of Light. 20:25
More on Auriel the Archangel, plus one of the only other archangels living in physical form now. 21:32
June has never run into a situation or a problem that was too big for her to handle. 24:57
Juneâs experiences with Zak Bagans and the crew of Ghost Adventures. 26:05
Patrick retells the story of investigating with Amy Bruni and Adam Berry and having the footage from 3 different video tapes mysteriously erase themselves. 29:27
More on Juneâs experiences with the Ghost Adventures crew and a conversation she had with Zak regarding an investigation and his provoking a particular entity. âThis demon has a message for you and you'd better listen, because this is an old demon, and they donât do messages. Youâre lucky. Usually they just strike and youâre screwed. So you'd better listen to what he has to say.â 30:32
A Ghost Adventures producer to June: âDonât take the demon out until after weâve done our investigation.â 33:05
In 2018, June says she cleaned out Zak Bagansâ famous museum of demons. 33:48
Being a demon seer and a nurse at the same time. 35:34
Juneâs perspective of what life is like on the Other Side. 36:35
Hell 38:45
Final thoughts from June and more on her forthcoming book, Dark Encounters. 40:31

The Mourning Society of St Louis is a civilian reenacting group with an interest in mourning, death culture, spiritualism and the funeral customs of the mid-nineteenth century through the early twentieth century. Their main focus is public educational events. The Mourning Society has participated in events with our partners at the beautiful and historic Bellefontaine Cemetery, the Campbell House Museum, the St Louis Public Library, Jefferson Barracks Historic Site, Missouri History Museum, the General Daniel Bissell House, the Field House Museum, Lafayette Park Conservancy, and the Stephen and Peter Sachs Museum at the Missouri Botanical Garden. :52
Guests for this episode are Edna Dieterle and Katherine Kozemczak, who co-founded the Mourning Society of St. Louis in 2005, along with Sherri Morrow, who joined the group in 2015. 4:15
Katherine tells the story of how the Mourning Society came about. Her and Edna were already volunteers on the board for a historic mansion in St. Louis. But the main inspiration started with Edna's trip to a home Mississippi. 4:55
Katherine and Ednaâs growing collection of artifacts and accoutrement, including coffins! 6:03
In 2015 their educational mourning events expanded to include funerals at the beautiful and historic Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis, and wakes at the the Campbell House Museum. 7:18
A truly unique group, and probably the first of its kind! 9:01
More on the Victorian funeral events at Bellefontaine Cemetery, including a service in the chapel, and educating participants on the cholera epidemic in 1865. 10:00
A striking and moving sight that includes an undertaker with a historic and period hearse. 12:21
The research and education that goes into the planning of events. 13:50

Black drapery, superstitions around mirrors, and marking the house to know a death has occurred. 34:03
The custom of placing coins over the eyes of the deceased. 37:09

Drawing people in, sneaking in education, and making it fun. 47:45
Building the atmosphere and setting the scene. âWe try to leave people with an impression of what it was really like and not like a romanticized idea of what it was like. We definitely had people cry on some of the tours before, because I think they go in thinking itâs going to be spooky, and sometimes itâs incredibly sad.â â Katherine 48:28
âWe were all like, âWhoa. Weâre doing something here.ââ â Katherine 50:03

Steele Alexandra Douris is an author, artist, and Victorianist, specializing in Victorian crime, gothic fiction, and spiritualism. She is a PhD candidate in the English department at Stanford University, where she has taught courses on Victorian spiritualism, ghost stories, and the gothic novel. She holds an MA in English from Stanford University and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin. As an undergraduate, Steele observed the social behavior of lemurs, wielded a trowel as part of a central Texas archaeological dig, and learned to identify primate fossils and human bones. As a graduate student, she disappeared into the archives of Victorian Britain, and now emerges only periodically to collect new tarot decks, hunt for fossils, and hoard art supplies. Steele splits her time between foggy NorCal and sunny South Texas, towing her mountain of journals and sketchbooks with her wherever she goes. You can learn more about Steele by visiting SteeleAlexandraDouris.com :50
Steeleâs book is Spirits, Seers & SĂ©ances: Victorian Spiritualism, Magic & the Supernatural. 2:36
What is a âVictorianist?â Plus Steeleâs academic passions. 3:26
A passion for archaeology, art, and literature. 5:01
What did the newspapers have to say about it? âI work a lot in newspapers⊠19th century newspapers, 19th century periodicals and early 20th century womenâs magazines.â 6:38
In her research into Spiritualism, Steele was amazed by how many Spiritualist magazines, newspapers, and periodicals there were at the time, like The Medium and Daybreak. âThe material really just gave me a glimpse into the entire engine of the Spiritualist community beyond just what I had pictured at the beginning.â 7:38
Steele includes really great âtry it yourselfâ exercises at the end of each chapter! Examples include instructions for holding a traditional spirit circle, sitting for a solitary seance, meditating like Dr. Mesmer, automatic writing/automatic art, channeling blindfolded, sitting for a psychic portrait, practicing psychometry, channeling your inner folklorist, exploring your own shadow/reading a gothic tale, scrying, making a Halloween card, or holding a Christmas seance! 8:55
Patrick discusses some of the really cool fall issues of The Delineator, an American women's magazine of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 10:51
Tableaux Vivant, a fascinating, long-lost Victorian party activity. 12:02
âItâs hard to move in many modern occult circles without tripping over the Victorians. And yet, somehow, in the process of becoming ubiquitous, the Victorians have also become invisible.â 16:16
Patrick on one of his âa-haâ moments from the book: âSome of us dream of putting away our modern tools and technology to pretend weâre Victorian. But in reality, Victorians were all about becoming modern, with the huge advances in technology that was happening at the time.â 16:16
What economic class of Victorians are we usually imagining? 21:12

An update on the improvement that April has noticed in the paranormal space when it comes to psychic mediums in paranormal investigation. 5:05
The two clips from Aprilâs last appearance on the show that Patrick just loves and has used many times when promoting the show. âAnd my goal, in addition to being a psychic medium, is Iâm April. Iâm a person. And I have a family, and I have a life, and I have a path that Iâm trying to figure out. And if I donât balance myself--my mind, my body, my soul--sometimes I do a really good job. Sometimes I flub it up a lot. But if I donât balance me, Iâm not going to be a good intuitive.â âYou know, they donât ever want to talk about, âRemember that time you stole my money, you ass hole!â You know, they never say that!â âThey always talk about those moments that took our breath away, not the moments that we lost our breath.â 6:25
April has moved to Texas, sheâs worked on missing person cases, but her work with balancing herself has not changed. 7:40
Those who are and are NOT pushing our species forward since 2016. 9:37

The paranormal culture in Eastern Texas, the Azalea Inn Bed and Breakfast, and her work with paranormal investigator husband, Braxton Roane. 22:24
Patrick originally met Braxton Roane at an event at Belvoir Winery before he or Patrick even knew April! 29:58
The side effects of paranormal investigation and the traumatizing story of April and Braxton needing an exorcism! âLetâs just say Braxtonâs eyes went from green to blue. They were green, then they went to this period of just slate grey, and then to blue.â âWhen you realize the devilâs looking right at you, itâs not a moment where you look away and you run and you lose them.â 31:20
Patrick shared a funny memory about Chip Coffey at Belvoir Winery. 39:34
April talks about her book, Goodnight Just the Same. 42:27
April describes her book, âLove Your Inner Empath: A Healing Workbook & Tool Kit.â 44:12
Food, diet, chocolate, and gravity. April and Patrick get real about it. 45:02
âYou are the guru of you. And you honor you. Honor all that your ups and downs has brought you to this moment of awareness. And that is where your adventure begins. What does that awareness say? What do you feel? âOh my lifeâs a sh*t show.â Okay then. Letâs fix it. Letâs change it. Letâs start to seek the joy, whatever that is for you. Leave people alone. Theyâre responsible for their own joy. So many of us live our life based on everyone else.â 48:52

Yvette Fielding has been crowned by many as âQueen of the Paranormalâ, âQueen of the Nightâ, or even âFirst Lady of the Paranormal.â Listeners from the US will no doubt know Yvette as the star of the hit paranormal TV series from the UK, Most Haunted. She and her husband, Karl Beattie, first created and produced the show in 2002, making them true pioneers in paranormal TV. Theyâve been producing the show ever since. If youâre a listener outside of the US, you may actually know Yvette originally from Blue Peter, a British TV show, which is the longest-running children's TV show in the world. Yvette was the youngest presenter ever on that show, and she even interviewed Princess Diana! Sheâs the author of a series of new young adult fiction, and she has a memoir coming out next year! :50

Patrick urges American listeners to check out Most Haunted if they havenât yet. 31:25
Yvette and her husband have 76 episodes on a shelf that havenât seen the light of day, because theyâre âso bloody boring!â 34:20
It only takes one doubting or skeptic person to block activity from spirit. Yvette calls these people âmuters.â 34:57
Most Haunted almost always has Glen Hunt or another parapsychologist or openminded skeptic on every investigation. 36:53
Looking back on the 30 East Drive episode, one of the most traumatizing investigations the team has ever been on. When the Lights Went Out is a 2012 film based on events at this location. 39:16

Have you heard about the upcoming film, The Haunting in Wicker Park, starring Erin Moriarty (The Boys) and Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things)? It was inspired by the experiences of the Becker family who invited NBC News cameras to film an exorcism in their Chicago home in 1971. Hear what weâve learned about this new film, and take another listen to Patrick's 2014 interview with Edwin F. Becker, who sadly passed away about a year ago. Visit BigSeance.com/239 for more info.

Intro :00
Today we reach back into the Big Seance archives to re-visit the two-part interview with Edwin F. Becker in 2014, about the frightening, real-life experiences that he and his family suffered through in the early 1970s in their home in Chicago. Those experiences led to NBCâs Carole Simpson filming the first televised exorcism in their home in 1971. Edwin's book, True Haunting, originated as just a journal to document it all. The accounts of the activity are just amazing, and as Patrick said in his review for the book over 10 years ago, it reads like amazing fiction⊠except itâs not. In 2012, the Paranormal Witness series featured the Becker family in an episode titled, The Tenants, and Patrick highly recommends that you check that out, if you can. The 2-part interview for the Big Seance that weâre revisiting today, was one of the first interviews Patrick had that he felt was really big, he was super proud of it, and Edwin later reached out to him to tell him that to that date it was perhaps the best interview he'd ever been a part of. :50
Sadly, Edwin died about a year ago in November of 2022. But to Patrickâs surprise, today he discovered that there was a major motion picture in post-production, called The Haunting in Wicker Park, directed by Gary Fleder, and starring Jamie Campbell Bower, who played Henry Creel and Vecna in the fourth season of the Netflix series, Stranger Things. iMDb says it was supposed to be released in 2023, but 2024 is just around the corner and there are no trailers yet. There are, however, some behind-the-scenes production photos. Edwin was aware and knew about the upcoming film, because he excitedly announced it in one of his last social media posts. If you know any details about the release of the film, please let us know at [email protected]. 2:22
Audio of the historic 1971 NBC footage of the exorcism of the Becker home with journalist Carole Simpson. Thanks to Edwin, the footage exists on YouTube. The aged audio is kind of atrocious, but itâs worth a listen. 5:05
The following interview was originally released in two parts in November of 2014:
Edwin F. Beckerâs bio. 11:06
Background on Edwinâs book, True Haunting. 12:41
Edwin takes us back to 1970 and a story that begins with the purchase of an old two-story building, a home made up of two apartments, each on its own floor. 14:08
âEddie, Iâm never coming down here.â Edwin brought his wife, Marsha, in to see the new home and the basement. He hoped that she would see that they could fix it up and make it into a home. She was not a fan of the basement. 21:03
Nasty fighting among the family of the deceased former owner, and a deal to keep Myra, a scary old remaining tenant for 120 days. 24:00
âWe started having anomalies immediately. I believe spirits are intelligent. I donât know if they can look into your soul and see everything youâve ever done, like a demon can, but I know that they can sense what youâre going to do and read your mind. I learned that while we lived there, because they could anticipate my actions whenever I tried to record them on a tape recorder.â 26:49
It all started with Marsha and the phone. 27:14
Edwin finally understands that there is a problem in the home, and he calls in a priest for a house blessing. It didnât go well and he bolted! 30:05
âWhat do you do about it?â 35:34
The mysterious sheds in the basement. 37:42
New downstairs tenants. 39:35
Runaway dogs. And Edwin borrows a tape recorder. 44:18
âBut over time, what happens is you wind up walking on egg shells, number one, because you donât know whatâs going to actually happen next. And you donât know what to attribute to paranormal and what not to attribute to paranormal.â 46:53
ââŠit started toying with me. That was the first time it actually turned on the gas on the stove.â 50:15
âI started thinking about burning the place down.â 51:25
âAnd ghosts lie.â Paranormal investigation, Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP), and Ouija boards. 52:18
âNo. I donât go ghost hunting, because youâre going to walk into a room if you know thereâs an energy there, and you really donât know if itâs a teddy bear or a raptor. And it can come home with you. There can be attachments.â 54:07
Bullets and Yellow Pages. The Beckers turned to Joseph
DeLouise, a famous Chicago psychic. 54:30Turning to exorcism. 59:39
A phone call from Carole Simpson and NBC led to the first televised exorcism. 1:03:50
âBut if you look in that YouTube piece at about the minute and a half mark, there will be a dark doorway. There is no door on that. It was a vinyl folding door. Youâre going to see a ghost start to come out and go back in briefly. Youâre going to think that a womanâs skirt or a womanâs robe or something is coming through the door. Youâre going to see the tip of it, solid as a rock, and then youâre going to see it back off.â 1:07:05
âThat exorcism went on for three and a half hours, and it was very, very creepy.â 1:08:25
âAnd then thereâs a clear childâs voice that says, âmama.ââ 1:08:25
âIf you look at the end of the exorcism, you can tell that they were not successful. You can look on their faces and they look like they just lost a basketball game by 52 points. And they left.â 1:10:25
âThe only thing we could do was get out of there.â 1:10:43
A brief discussion of the Amityville story and that film. 1:14:55
A haunted piano. 1:17:34
Edwinâs advice for anyone going through a haunting, plus current ghostly activity. 1:21:54
Edwin on orbs, photography, and Hollywoodâs representation of hauntings. 1:26:50

Patrick revisits the mysterious story of Pearl Curran (1883 - 1937), the Saint Louis housewife who between 1913 and 1937, channeled entire books and other works from a spirit known as Patience Worth, and mostly through the Ouija board. Visit BigSeance.com/238 for more info.

Patrick is planning for an upcoming speaking engagement and was looking back to some of the early episodes of the podcast. He was reminded of a short episode he produced about Pearl Curran and Patience Worth. :57
Patrick reads portions of âPatience Worth: Author From the Great Beyondâ by Gioia Diliberto for Smithsonian Magazine from September of 2010. 2:20
âSpeaking through a Ouija board operated by Pearl Lenore Curran, a St. Louis housewife of limited education, Patience Worth was nothing short of a national phenomenon in the early years of the 20th century. Though her works are virtually forgotten today, the prestigious Braithwaite anthology listed five of her poems among the nationâs best published in 1917, and the New York Times hailed her first novel as a âfeat of literary composition.â Her output was stunning. In addition to seven books, she produced voluminous poetry, short stories, plays and reams of sparkling conversationânearly four million words between 1913 and 1937. Some evenings she worked on a novel, a poem and a play simultaneously, alternating her dictation from one to another without missing a beat.â 4:36
âThe Patience Worth case remains one of the most tantalizing literary mysteries of the last century, a window onto a vanished era when magic seemed to exist because so many people believed in it. In the decades since Pearl Curranâs death, in 1937, no one has explained how she produced Patienceâs writing.â 8:32
âAt first Pearl spelled out every letter with the Ouija board, but as time passed, the mere touch of her hand on the pointer loosed a flood of spoken words. Eventually, she abandoned the board entirely; a feeling of slight pressure in her head would announce Patienceâs arrival, and Pearl would begin reciting.â 15:28
Check out the book, The Patience of Pearl: Spiritualism and Authorship in the Writings of Pearl Curran by Daniel B. Shea. 18:23
Looking back at episode 32 of the Big Seance Podcast from 2015, where Patrick reads the article, âGhostwriter and Ghost: The Strange Case of Pearl Curran & Patience Worthâ by Ed Simon, from The Public Domain Review. 18:47
Two Moms and a Baby from the article, âOuija poet Patience Worth: 100 years and many moons laterâ, by Jane Henderson, from the St. Louis Post Dispatch. 35:58
