Dr. Burk Parsons serves as Senior Pastor of Saint Andrew’s Chapel, and he is editor of Tabletalk, the monthly magazine of Ligonier Ministries where he has served since 1999. He is a Ligonier Ministries Teaching Fellow, and he is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America. Dr. Parsons holds his master’s and doctoral degrees from Reformed Theological Seminary. His dissertation is titled “The Missio Dei and the Church: Towards Fulfilling the Great Commission through Ordinary Means of Grace Ministry.” He is author of Why Do We Have Creeds?, editor of Assured by God: Living in the Fullness of God’s Grace and John Calvin: A Heart for Devotion, Doctrine, and Doxology, and cotranslator and coeditor of A Little Book on the Christian Life by John Calvin.

Welcome to the first episode of the John Calvin Podcast! In this episode we hear about the early formative influences that shaped the young Calvin. Featuring the austere, Collège de Montaigu, the religious intolerance of the Sorbonne and the infamous affair of the Placards which led to anti-Catholic tracts tracts being outrageously posted across France and even to King Francis own bedchamber. This episode follows Calvin until the political and religious upheaval of the reformation leads to a 25 year old Calvin being forced to leave France as an exile in 1535.

The John Calvin podcast is all about the enormously influential, sixteenth century reformer John Calvin. My name is Matt White and I’m a Vicar and PhD student studying John Calvin. Endlessly intriguing, enormously impactful, loved by some and loathed by others, this podcast aims to communicate something of the fascinating historical and theological context of John Calvin, while also having fun along the way.
Launch date: 19 August 2024, 7am GMT.
