If you've ever felt like life has thrown you a curveball, this one's for you.
I sat down with my good friend Raj to talk about the challenge and magic of transitions, embracing change, and betting on yourself.
I love this conversation. It's deep. And I laughed a lot. It's like peanut butter and chocolate: the best combo.
Here are a few things we cover:
Embracing Identity Shifts: How evolving your identity is a natural part of growth. Betting on Yourself: The importance of investing in your dreams. PLUS practical steps to make your dreams a reality. Strategy for Change: Actionable strategies for turning life's unexpected moments into opportunities. The Power of Resilience: How to build resilience and find strength in the face of challenges. Community as a Catalyst: The value of sharing your journey and connecting with others for inspiration and support. We also are trialing a new format. I'd love to hear how it feels to you!
Plus: listen to the end, and you'll hear us talk about how we'd like you're involvement in the next phase of the Meaning Movement.
Are you ready to turn those curveballs into home runs? Let's go!

My friend Patrick has had a nonlinear career path.
I wanted to have him on the how and hear a little bit more about the pivot he took in his career to get to where he is today.
Today he's a copywriter and a writer.
In this conversation, we get to dig into all the twists and turns that his career has taken him, as well as geek out a little bit on creative work.
We talk about the discipline of getting in the chair and putting the time in to make creative work and how you have to be in the right place in order for the inspiration to strike, not the other way around. And so much more.
It's just a really fun conversation. You're in for a treat here today.

It's always about money OR
is it that it's never about money?
My guest today is Joe Stephan. He is a financial advisor with a podcast by the name, it's Never about Money, which I love.
As a financial advisor I love that he leads with this question. He acknowledges that the work that he does is not just about money, but about helping his client understand what is meaningful and how to go about living a meaningful life.
I had the chance to connect with Joe on his podcast. It was such a fun experience and wanted to continue the conversation and have him over here on the show.
He is a financial advisor as part of a family firm. There are so many layers of complexity — understanding what he wants in the business, what his family wants, and navigating the overlap between between those two.
We just had a great conversation. We talk about goals, we talk about money, we talk about making a meaningful life.

John Cuomo is a former firefighter and now author of the book Leadership Refined by Fire. It's a great book that illustrates leadership principles through the lens of a long tenure as a firefighter.
I had a great time digging into some of these ideas, looking at how they apply to the lives of entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, self-funded entrepreneurs, and driven entrepreneurs — people like you and me. I think you're going to enjoy this one. Let's get to it.

Daniel Hatke is an entrepreneur, deep thinker, and friend. I loved this conversation with him because I got to ask him all the questions that I don't usually have an excuse to ask him.
He has a very unique perspective on entrepreneurship because he's seen it from multiple sides. He's lived multiple lives, I guess you could say, even though he's still relatively young.
He has played the finance CTO Wall Street game as well as the mostly self funded entrepreneur game.
We got to, with that in mind, dig deep into the choices that he's made to pursue entrepreneurship, how he finds meaning and fulfillment in it, the contrast of his current risk portfolio and stress portfolio against that of his former life in the financial services world, and more!
It was just a great conversation. I'm so excited to bring it to you.

There are two areas of life where we experience fulfillment and meaning.
One is in our work and careers. If you listen to the Meaning Movement, if you listen to the show, I know you have wrestled with some of those ideas.
But then there's the rest of life outside of your work and your career.
Most of us realize that it's a both/and situation: there's meaning and purpose to be found in our day-to-day work life and there's fulfillment to be found outside of that.
In my conversation with Paige NeJame, we get to dig into these ideas directly.
Paige is a volunteer with the Carbon Almanac network. I met her volunteering there as well.
She's a writer. She is a long time entrepreneur, small business owner.
In this conversation, you'll gain insights from her work journey, her involvement in the Carbon Almanac, and the meaning that she's found along the way.

I am so thrilled to bring you this conversation today with Ryan Barton.
Ryan as an acquaintance for some time. He went through the Calling Course with me a little while ago and has just continued to impress me with the way that he thinks so deeply about his work and the business that he's leading.
He thinks deeply about work. We just could just plum the depths of work philosophy together. And this conversation is just such a blast.
We talk about really center in on this idea of the transformation that's required in you in order for you to become the next iteration of yourself, in order for your business to continue to grow and to succeed, to lead people where you want them to go. To take an organization, to grow it to its next level, you have to embrace the transformation that comes along with it.

Today we have special guest Tom Epperson. He is the leader of the Inner Will Leadership Institute.
I had just such a fun conversation with Tom all about his just amazing work story from working in a family business at a kind of absurdly young age to what he is doing now, which is a very cool nonprofit that's been launched out of another business, which is a really amazing model.
And the work that he does is just in such good alignment, just amazing alignment with my work.
We get to dig into work trauma, a category that I see emerging in my own work. And I'm going to be creating more content about that because I think it's such a significant category.
We talk about the four P framework for finding more meaning, more purpose in the things that we do. We talk about all the great things that they're Leadership Institute is doing.
You're in for a treat, so let's get to it.

It's all launching in the beginning of 2023. I would love to share more with you about it if it's the kind of thing that you're interested in: defining success as more than just a financial metric, but understanding the metrics that measure your own personal success so that you can love your life not just when your business is booming and excelling in the future, but even in the present, regardless of the business's performance.
You can find out more about that at https://themeaningmovement.com/start
You can take the burnout risk assessment there so a series of questions that I put together to help you understand your pace, your current reality, and then hopefully from there bring some awareness to how you are doing in this area.
After you take that assessment, you can jump on a call with me, we can talk about putting together a personal plan for you and I can share more about the accelerator.. You can find out more about that at https://themeaningmovement.com/start

Kevin Basik is passionate about leadership and character development.
In this conversation we got to do a deep dive into topics like values how an organization builds culture. And so much more.
I even shared my family’s personal mantras as an example of how we do this in the family setting.
Kevin knows his stuff!
He’s the Director of the National Medal of Honor Institute, committed to inspiring Americans at all levels to recognize the hero within them, and to live and lead with character.
He is a graduate of the US Air Force Academy, and served 24 years in the Air Force helping develop leaders of character everywhere from entry level programs to with senior leaders in the Pentagon.
He received his PhD in Organizational Behavior and is a thought-leader and in-demand speaker in the area of Behavioral Integrity as a driver of trust, accountability and performance.
His passion is inviting others to join him on the journey of "crossing the gap" -- moment-by-moment -- to live and lead in alignment with our values.
Dan's Family Mantras:
We team Cumberland believe in each other.
We know that God is with us and for us,
and we are with each other and for each other.
When one of us wins, we all win.
We are kind, brave, & honest.
We know that everything is figure-out-able, and that small actions add up to big things.
When we fail, we try again.
When hard things happen, we choose how we respond.
We don’t take ourselves too seriously.
We laugh and have fun.
We walk together.
And we give mom and dad all the peanut butter candy.
We love life.
We love others.
And we love our team.
Watch out world, here we come.

We hear all the time how important it is to have a clear “why” in your life and business.
🧐 But have you ever thought about WHY you need a why?
Yes, I know the answer:
✔️ So you’ll be able to recall it when things are hard
✔️ So you can make sure all the decisions you’re making are taking you to in the right direction.
✔️ Etc.
Those are all fine. And I drank that kool-aid for a long time on all of that.
But here’s the problem:
IF what you’re doing is so personally challenging and painful that you have to remind yourself WHY you’re doing it, then you have a problem.
Most entrepreneurs don’t have a WHY problem. We have a HOW problem.
❌ If your pace is unsustainable, clarifying your why won’t help.
❌ If you’re over-working yourself, knowing WHY isn’t going keep you healthy.
❌ If you’re making less money than you need to be, spending more time than you want to be, and experiencing more stress than you should be — your why isn’t going to help.
Change your “how”.
✅ How you live your days is how you live your life.
I’ve burned out hard on this path, and I know from experience that when how you’re building your business and pursuing your goals is fun and balanced, the why takes care of itself.
Stop sacrificing yourself to a life you don't love in order to gain a future that may never come.
