The conversation continues with Jackie & Andrew - husband and wife, parents, business owners and behavioral health experts who, for 20 years, have helped thousands of people step out of the darkness and into the light.
In this episode, Jackie & Andrew discuss how some common physical ailments (stomach aches, back pain) can sometimes be symptoms of a deeper issue, rooted in mental and behavioral health.
For example, Andrew talks about his long-term chronic neck pain, the hoops he jumped through for diagnosis, the importance of self-advocacy, and what he ended up doing in order to finally solve the real (root cause) problem - not just manage symptoms.
They go on to describe a harsh reality: it is possible to feel better and feel what feels like "progress" but without actually fixing anything. To actually solve the root cause issue, many of us need to be pulled across the finish line, because we simply cannot walk, run, or crawl across it on our own.

Meet Jackie & Andrew - husband and wife, parents, business owners and behavioral health experts who, for 20 years, have helped thousands of people step out of the darkness and into the light.
Andrew outlines the statistics that explain the name of the podcast. In short, only 1 in 12 people who need mental or behavioral help will ask for it. This podcast is about those The Other Eleven suffering in silence.
Why do The Other Eleven suffer silently?
Common symptoms of depression and anxiety are mistrust, an inability to follow through with treatment, fear and devastation, resulting in care avoidance.
Is it okay to not be okay? Of course. But what does that even mean? Jackie dives into the context around that overused trope, and busts the myth that mental and behavioral health problems are rare. Turns out, one in four people will face it in their lifetime.
Why are we here? To identify the obstacles standing in the way of actually fixing the problem.
