  • China has recently (2024) pledged $50 billion to support Africa's development over the next 3 years. However, Western media outlets have, yet again, accused China of putting Africa into a debt trap. In response, China has firmly rejected these types of allegations. So what's the truth? Is China's involvement a genuine effort to support Africa's development, or are these concerns about debt and influence valid?

We uncover the truth in this video, diving deep into the history of China's relations with Africa, the West's accusations of China's supposed debt-trapping, both China and the West's deals with Africa, and the attitude Africans have on the ground regarding both.

Men and people lie but numbers don't, so we shall also dive into the data in our examination of these claims. Most importantly, it's important to remember that the pursuit of truth over ideological bias is essential for building a sustainable, equitable, and prosperous world. In the end, it's the unwavering pursuit of truth that will set us all free, guiding us toward a world where every nation and individual can thrive.

  • Hey there!

We are back with a big surprise! We are officially launching our first YouTube documentary next week!

Click here (or on the image below) to watch the trailer on YouTube!

The stories we tell, the ideas we put into our minds and the role models we choose as a society define how we view ourselves and how we can build or destroy our future. The Japanese were once considered lazy and the Germans were once considered thieves. They took the initiative to change those narratives and built successful futures for themselves.

We are all on this African ship, and this story belongs to each and every one of us. It is our responsibility to contribute by creating or sharing the insights that can build a better future for us, our children and their children.

As a filmmaker, I have seen the power of visual storytelling in telling impactful stories so it was only a matter of time before we took it seriously as a means to spread our message and impact even wider. I thank you all for your support, and I hope that we can count on it as we move forward. Africa’s future depends on you.

In preparation for the documentary, we have complied insights and ideas from various experts on Africa that you can listen to during your weekend or week to ready your mind for the documentary.

Click here (or on the image below) to watch it on YouTube!

The marathon continues! Cheers and Godspeed.

I just found out how Andrew Sherman went from broke student to becoming a global thought leader in business and law!

Andrew is a 28 time author who’s been acknowledged by magazines like Fortune, Inc. and many more as one of the world’s top minds in small and large business!

I just had a conversation with him on our podcast and here are my top 3 takeaways:

    * Your gifts can turn into revenue streams - Andrew started freelance writing to pay bills when he was in college but he quickly discovered he had a gift for it and that led him to publishing a book by his first year as a practicing lawyer!

    * Entrepreneurs are stewards of investor money - Andrew calls the investor-entrepreneur relationship a marriage, based on trust. Entrepreneurs have to make themselves into trustworthy partners in order to succeed.

    * Money is a commodity - Andrew warns that you shouldn’t take investor money unless it comes with more… unless it comes with expertise, networks and time, it may not be worth it.

Andrew became successful by applying empathy, building trust and being resourceful and we can do that too.

  • Greetings, fellow trailblazers of innovation!

In our quest to unearth inspiring entrepreneurs shaping the future, we are delighted to introduce you to Moses Mukundi, the visionary behind Eden Care—a revolutionary solution tackling Africa's most pressing challenges in a key industry: insurance.

    A Startling Reality

Every year, a staggering 15 million people in Africa slip into poverty due to overwhelming medical expenses. Astonishingly, health insurance remains alarmingly underutilized, with a mere 0.2% penetration—an alarming statistic that highlights the urgent need for change.

    The Spark of Inspiration

Enter Moses Mukundi, a relentless problem solver on a mission to transform this grim reality. During the crucible of the Covid-19 pandemic, Moses had a profound revelation that ignited the fire within him—the realization that traditional insurers across the continent were burdened by outdated systems in product development, distribution, and customer experience.

    An Opportunity for Innovation

With this newfound understanding, Moses recognized an unparalleled opportunity for a fresh perspective on insurance in Africa. Simultaneously, he observed a remarkable shift toward digital transactions across the continent. In just five years, electronic health record systems catapulted from scarcity to nearly 90% penetration—an extraordinary leap that laid the groundwork for a new type of insurance service built upon this digital foundation.

    Triumph Over Obstacles

Of course, Moses encountered numerous obstacles along his path to creating Eden Care. In his home country of Kenya, the exorbitant cost of registering a new underwriter loomed as a daunting barrier, reaching a staggering $6 million. Undeterred, Moses made the bold decision to relocate to Rwanda, where the cost was a more manageable $1 million. However, gaining government approval as an underwriter proved to be a formidable challenge, consuming years of determination and perseverance.

    The Journey Continues

Yet, through unwavering resilience, Moses conquered each hurdle, fueled by an unwavering commitment to creating a healthier and happier world. His vision extends beyond mere products; it encompasses a lasting legacy that will shape the future of healthcare in Africa and reverberate through generations to come.

    Embrace the Beginning

Today, we stand witness to the inception of a remarkable journey—one that holds the promise of transforming an entire industry. Moses Mukundi's quest to develop products that truly matter to society marks only the beginning of a legacy that will leave an indelible mark on the world.

As we eagerly await the next chapter of this extraordinary story, we invite you to join us in celebrating Moses's indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication to building a brighter future for all.

Inspired by Moses Mukundi's journey, what steps will you take to shape the future and leave your own remarkable legacy? Share your thoughts and aspirations as we embark on this transformative path together!

    Until we meet again,

    Max

  • In 2015, 2 out of 5 kids in Rwanda had stunted growth.

    Why?

    Inadequate access to nutritious food.

This was the environment that surrounded Segond Fidens, this week’s guest on the podcast.

This is what inspired his mission.

Africa is a continent that’s rich in natural resources yet, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), up to 45% of child mortality is caused by undernutrition in Africa.

In a world where obesity-related diseases kill more people than hunger in developed countries, how can we explain the tragic reality of children dying of starvation in Africa?

There are many reasons but the most glaring one is likely to be food loss.

According to the World Resources Institute1, Africa loses or wastes up to 50 percent of its fruits and vegetables, 40 percent of its roots and tubers, and 20 percent of its cereals. This not only represents a huge economic loss, but also a waste of natural resources such as land, water, and energy.

This creates a vicious cycle that undermines food security and nutrition for the most vulnerable populations.

Segond Fidens is a Rwandan entrepreneur who wants to change that.

In 2008, he was affected by the global financial crash which led him to go on the trip of a life time.

He waited his way to having some cash, took a loan and went to China where he set out alone on a month’s long 6000 km bike trip on a 300 dollar budget.

That trip inspired him to pursue his true calling. A calling to pursue a dream that everyone on the African continent must be fed adequately on a daily basis.

Now, he is the founder and CEO of North Harvest, a company which, with their flagship product Park&Pick, acts as an online grocery store, coupled with a home delivery service in Kigali.

By understanding the data behind the consumption of food in Kigali, he works with farmers, who can then supply the city more effectively, with less waste across the value chain.

Are you someone who cares about food loss, the agricultural opportunity in Africa or the quest to find your calling?

If you are, don’t miss out on this thought-provoking discussion that will challenge your assumptions and inspire you to make a difference.

  • The pandemic exposed the fragility of our global supply chains. Is it time to rethink our reliance on international trade?

Alex and Tobias, the-co-founders of Viebeg, a VC backed health-tech company that uses AI to optimise medical supply chains in Africa definitely think so.

Here are 5 reasons why I think you should listen to my conversation with them:

Supply chains are the backbone of any business that deals with physical goods, as they provide the means to deliver products to customers in a timely and efficient manner.

According to a report by the Business Continuity Institute, "89% of organizations have experienced at least one supply chain disruption in the past 12 months, with 54% experiencing two or more disruptions."

Optimising supply chains can lead to cost savings, increased efficiency, and improved customer satisfaction

Viebeg's co-founders, Alex and Tobias, have extensive experience in supply chain management in Africa, one of the hardest-to-serve markets in the world, having connected over 600 hospitals to their platform in 5 years.

Viebeg is at the forefront of using innovative technologies such as AI to optimize supply chains, thus they have expertise into how technology is derisking supply chains in the 21st century.
