Europe’s largest reference library, and one of Glasgow’s most iconic buildings, is home to a reading unit for visually impaired people (RUVI) The service provides support and technology solutions to help blind and partially sighted visitors make use of the wide range of services and titles within the West End building. This weekend, 22nd and 23rd September 2018, RUVI is celebrating a milestone birthday. Paws for Thought this week introduces us to Sue Taylor and guide dog Leo, RNIB Connect Radio's Iain Wilson tells us all about a 5k for Guide Dogs, and on World Connect the controversy that arose this week regarding the news that Donald Trump tried to ban braille from Trump Towers during its development.
We also spoke of the passing of TV presenter and writer Denis Norden, and revisited Allan Russell's interview with him back in 2009 following the news he had been diagnosed with age related macular degeneration - the most common cause of sight loss in the UK.

In the last week another story concerning President Trump and his seemingly dismissive views towards disabled people has come to light - an opinion article written by Former Trump Organization Executive Barbara Res said that Trump didn't want to have braille available inside the elevators of Trump Tower in New York during its development, and that "no blind people are going to live in Trump Tower".

The TV host and comedy writer Denis Norden has died at the age 96.
A statement released by Norden's children described him as: "A wonderful dad, a loving grandfather and great great-grandfather."
Allan Russell spoke to Denis back in 2009 following the news he had been diagnosed with age related macular degeneration - the most common cause of sight loss in the UK. Allan asked him how it changed his life.

We also find out about an upcoming event in Glasgow to celebrate RNIB's 150th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of the Resource Unit for the Visually Impaired at Glasgow's Mitchell Library. Tech Talk's Shaun Preece also joins us to explain one of the most simplest functions of a smartphone - making a call.
