In this episode we’re joined by Charlie Watson. If you’re a runner, you might know her better as Runner Beans, a serial marathoner. What you might not also know is that she’s an NHS dietician and she writes lots of brilliant articles for us on nutrition. We wanted to ask her one of our biggest worries – should we be as concerned as media tells us we should be about the amount of sugar we eat? We talk about PCOS, about our diets generally, and about restricting sugar and carbohydrates (or not).

I’ve just got back from completing my Trail Escape marathon, which – if you listened to episode 216 – I was enormously nervous about. But it turns out there was no need – I had an absolute ball, which is probably a spoiler but I don’t care.
Trail Escape race reportSo here is my race report in full, from the shuttle bus on the way there, to the marshalls, to the toilets, to the medals. I am full of the joy of running a race with walkers and runners, with no pressure, where the sun was shining and every runner was getting cheered at the end.

House moveSo Holly has finally arrived in her new house, and as we all know a house move is a Big Change, so we talk about that and how she’s coping, aside from getting irritated with Doug.
On my side, I’ve got my Trail Escape marathon coming up this weekend, and I’m trying to suck up all the positive vibes without throwing too many of them in Holly’s face. There’s a lot to worry about, and I hope you can relate to some of them: the weather has been awful so I’m very worried about the mud, my hormones have been all over the place, and this cold won’t shift. All of which is adding up to a number of things that are out of my control come race day. But it’s not a race. It’s a run. And I can’t wait to report back next week.

In big news, Holly has been to the physio, and as a result she’s been spending a bit of money buying her first indoor gym kit, which unsurprisngly leads me on to being a bit teachery and chatting about kettle bells at length (sorry).
Then we move on to running and illness – I have a theory and would love to know your thoughts on it. Is running when you’re ill actually *good* for you?
MenopauseWe have bit of menopause chat because a recent conversation made me realise that we’re not talking enough to our younger friends and family members about the menopause – symptoms are still confusing us, especially when we’re younger than we think is the classic menopause age. Let’s get educating!
ControversyFinally we address the running controversy that we spoke about a couple of weeks ago, when I ran a women’s only 5K that was also run by a handful of men. We slagged them off a few weeks ago, but now we’ve received an email that sets us straight (at least for one brilliant man). Listen through to find out more!

Strength for runnersThe main part of this podcast is all about a runner’s worst nightmare: STRENGTH. We knew we personally needed to dedicate some time to this, and we have a feeling that you guys wouldn’t mind a bit of direction too. So we talk to gorgeous, talented and wonderful Kate Sellers, friend of the pod, fabulous PT and also member of the Women’s Running team. We wanted to drag her on to talk about all things strength – what we should be doing, when, and how.
