  • For Aida Mariam Davis, the opposite of colonization isn’t decolonization—it’s creation. As the Chief People Officer of the Sierra Club, founder of Decolonize Design, and author of the new book Kindred Creation: Parables and Paradigms for Freedom, Aida brings profound insights on how Black and Indigenous wisdom can guide us toward building systems rooted in dignity, justice, and joy.

In this episode, Aida sits down with Rajkumari Neogy to explore the transformative power of self-determination and self-acceptance in reclaiming belonging. Together, they delve into how ancestral knowledge, embedded in our cellular memory, shapes the way we design workplaces, relationships, and a more inclusive world. Plus, Aida challenges the notion of waiting for acknowledgement from oppressive systems and shares a framework for claiming our place and truly owning our humanity.

  • What does it really mean to face systemic racism with both fierce determination and self-compassion? Neuroscience educator Sarah Peyton is back to share how this powerful mix of anti-racism and self-kindness can break down deep-rooted biases and heal generational trauma. Together with clinical psychologist Dr. Roxy Manning, Sarah co-authored The Anti-Racist Heart, a guide that shows how self-compassion can strengthen our ability to engage in anti-racist work and build genuine connections.

In this episode, Sarah and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy dive into the epigenetic weight of centuries-old oppression, how self-compassion helps lower implicit bias, and the fascinating science behind what Sarah calls "rage circuits"—our brain's natural pathways for transforming anger into purposeful action. They unpack why learning to understand and care for ourselves is so crucial in dismantling oppressive systems and creating a world where everyone belongs.

  • When was the last time you paid attention to your body language in a meeting? We often focus so much on what we say that we overlook the signals we send every moment.

“The most powerful theater is when the actors aren’t actually talking,” says Shoshana Simons, a drama therapist by training and former Chair of the Expressive Arts Therapy program at California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). With two decades of experience, Shoshana helps individuals master the unspoken dynamics that shape our interactions.

From building rapport and enhancing teamwork to navigating conflict and negotiations, non-verbal communication is key to career success. In this episode, Shoshana joins neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy to explore the power of body language, posture, gestures, and tone in the workplace. Drawing from real-life scenarios, they offer actionable tips you can apply right away—plus what to avoid as you become more aware of how you’re showing up.

  • Mental health disparities continue to affect communities of color, but how can we create spaces for healing and acknowledgment?

"You learn to suppress, and every time you feel, you struggle with how to be in that feeling," says Giorgio Chatelain, a psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience. As a social worker, Giorgio has dedicated his career to supporting the mental health of immigrants and people of color, addressing the unique challenges they face in seeking care.

In this episode, Giorgio sits down with neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy to explore the pressures of masculinity, the power of acknowledgment, and how isolation wreaks havoc on the nervous system. Together, they discuss ways to break the cycle of emotional suppression, open up conversations around mental health, and create trauma-informed workplaces that can better support communities of color.

  • In a world where workplace dynamics often prioritize efficiency over emotional connection, could love be the missing element that transforms professional relationships?

“The way you do one relationship is how you do all relationships—from the bedroom to the boardroom,” says relationship expert Dr. Sara Nasserzadeh. Her book, "Love by Design: 6 Ingredients to Build a Lifetime of Love," provides a pathway for couples to deepen their sense of connection and shared understanding.

In this episode, Dr. Nasserzadeh and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy apply these ideas to the workplace. They break down the core ingredients of love, explore how these principles can profoundly impact the way we work together, and make them accessible for everyone to practice in their daily lives.

  • "The body is our doorway to greater wisdom, compassion, and growing a presence that is trustworthy and life-affirming," says Staci K. Haines, an innovator in the Somatics field for over 30 years.

Staci believes that Somatics addresses our deep human yearning for wholeness, connection, and belonging by guiding us back to our bodies. This embodied transformation is not just a concept but a practical approach that helps us reconnect with our purpose and navigate life’s complexities. Through Somatics, we can relearn essential practices like setting boundaries, embracing contradictions, and enhancing our capacity to love and be loved, especially in the wake of trauma or societal conditioning.

She is the author of The Politics of Trauma: Somatics, Healing and Social Justice and Healing Sex: A Mind-Body Approach to Healing Sexual Trauma.

In this episode, Staci and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy explore the evolution of Somatics, why it is so powerful, especially in today's world, and practical ways to deepen your connection with your body that can transform how you approach life and work.

  • As a leader, it’s tempting to feel like you need to have all the answers. Being a great problem solver helped you get to where you are, but once you start leading a team, you need to evolve into someone who enables problem-solving. “Performance is a team sport, not a solo act,” says Jon Low, a performance coach and tactical advisor to early-stage founders.

In helping leaders tackle various challenges in growing their businesses, Jon has seen firsthand the power of asking questions that uncover “what’s really going on.” The three main blockers? “Irrational fear, shame, or guilt,” he says.

In this episode, Jon and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy explore what might be holding you back from unlocking your team’s full potential. They discuss real-world scenarios like how to balance empathy with authority, improve cross-functional collaboration, create a culture of ownership, and communicate effectively as a distributed team.

  • Can we really challenge racism with both fierceness and compassion? Can we confront discriminatory actions head-on without shaming others, and interrupt hate in ways that foster genuine change? Using Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Beloved Community framework, activists are finding new ways to create equity through bold yet empathetic dialogue against systemic white supremacy. Dr. Roxy Manning believes this balance is not only possible but essential, and she shows us how in her book, "How to Have Antiracist Conversations: Embracing Our Full Humanity to Challenge White Supremacy."

Dr. Roxy Manning is a clinical psychologist and certified trainer and assessor for the Center for Nonviolent Communication. She regularly leads workshops centered on nonviolent communication and social change in the United States and internationally. Since 2004 she has operated a private consulting business, supporting organizations and corporations to address power differences and foster inclusion. As a psychologist, she works primarily with the homeless population of San Francisco.

In this episode, Dr. Manning and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy provide a guide for how to show up with fierce compassion and approach antiracist conversations in everyday life that create connection and advance positive change.

  • “Even a momentary lack of love and safety as children can follow us for the rest of our lives,” says Rainbow Markell, an early childhood education expert. Since her start in the field in the 1970s, she has been part of some of the most forward-thinking programs that put the idea of “trauma-informed care” on the map. How do you help children identify and regulate their emotions? How can you signal trust and build connections in times of conflict? And why is predictability such an important factor in it all?

In this episode, she and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy explore how understanding these dynamics can hold the key to a big question: what does a trauma-informed workplace look like? They cover the stages of brain development, why breathing serves as the “brakes” to our nervous system, and the “round eyebrow” approach that lowers someone’s defenses and helps them feel safe in an instant.

  • By championing creative thinking, leaders cultivate a space where ideas flourish, collaboration thrives, and the extraordinary becomes possible, paving the way for sustainable success and growth. "Yet we don't program time for leaders to be creative," says Eugene Sepulveda. "When can they let their mind relax and daydream? The best organizations create environments where that can happen."

With a career spanning decades as an executive and entrepreneur across industries, Eugene's wisdom can help us navigate new pathways for innovation. He is the Co-Founder and CEO of Culturati, a research and culture-building community known for its Annual Summit in Austin, TX. He also serves as an Advisor at Capital Factory and Co-Chair of The Obama Foundation's Texas Chapter.

In this episode, Eugene and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy explore ways of thinking to help leaders navigate today's workplace environment. They discuss the value of spontaneity, the neurochemistry of playfulness, and how, as a leader, to reconcile your personal values with your organization's.

  • The homelessness crisis in the United States is at an all-time high, with 653,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night, the highest number since 2007. Homelessness involves complex factors such as mental health, economic instability, and inadequate social support. Yet recently, a Supreme Court case debated whether sleeping on the streets should be a crime, drawing attention to the lack of humanity that often surrounds this topic.

Ariane Porras is on the front line of this issue every day. As a Social Worker and Community Collaborative Director at the YMCA of San Diego, she calls for a reevaluation of how we as a society see unhoused people. "We're missing the fact that they're our neighbors," she says, reminding us that one of the main reasons people lose their homes is the high cost of medical bills.

In this episode, she and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy explore ideas that can bring about collective change. They discuss the practice of emotional co-regulation, ways to become aware of a dominance-centered mindset, and why power is our most addictive substance.

  • In the past few years, DEI efforts in the U.S. have hit some setbacks. Political divides have deepened, with some states passing laws that limit conversations about race and gender, and the Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action in the workplace.

"I've been here before," says Cindy Owyoung, who has been at the forefront of DEI for over 20 years at organizations like GitHub, Charles Schwab, Robinhood, and most recently, Bill.com. Her book, "All Are Welcome: How to Build a Real Workplace Culture of Inclusion that Delivers Results," offers practical ways organizations can compete in today's world by becoming more inclusive.

In this episode, she and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy speak openly about the latest challenges in DEI. They explore the power of community, how to create conditions for feedback, and small, tangible steps that everyone can take to foster belonging in organizations.

  • White supremacy isn’t just in the history books; it’s baked into our daily lives, from the shows we watch to the ways we work, often without us even noticing. "It's the water that we swim in. And we don't know because we're the fish," says Jill Nagle.

Jill has written multiple books, created a somatic counseling approach called Wisdom of the Body, and founded Evolutionary Workplace to help leaders build anti-racist organizations.

In this episode, she and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy delve into the past and present forces that uphold the idea of "white supremacy mythology." They examine collective stories like the American Dream that permeate through our culture, the connection between loneliness and violence, and how one might begin to mediate a productive conversation between IDF and Hamas.

  • At a time of crisis at home and abroad, we find ourselves in a state of unprecedented disharmony. "But that doesn't mean we're going to act," says Dr. Shariff Abdullah, with a reminder that "the call to action may make you very uncomfortable."

Shariff has devoted much of his life to the work of inclusivity and societal transformation. His award-winning book, The Power of One: Authentic Leadership in Turbulent Times, was published in 1991, yet its powerful principles are as relevant today as ever.

In this episode, Shariff and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy discuss the weight of despair that so many of us feel. They explore where this stems from, how to overcome our own resistance, and what we can do to get our hearts engaged in the moment.

  • Face recognition technology is becoming a part of our daily lives in simple yet impactful ways. Unlocking your phone with a glance, tagging friends on social media, or verifying your identity at the airport are all examples of face recognition at work. Alongside its many practical benefits, there is a growing focus on addressing ethical concerns, especially when it comes to reducing bias.

As one of the pioneers in this field, Paravision has made ethical development a top priority and, in 2022, achieved a #1 ranking as the most accurate face recognition in the world by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

In this episode, CEO Doug Aley and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy engage in an open and honest conversation on the topic. They explore AI's potential for inclusivity, leading in divisive times, and the power of sitting with discomfort.

  • Amid ongoing debates about the efficacy of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB+) initiatives, Indeed stands out as an example of how high-growth organizations can integrate these principles effectively. With over 10,000 employees across more than 60 countries, Indeed not only prioritizes DEIB+ as a strategic and moral imperative but also demonstrates its tangible impact.

Led by Misty Gaither, VP of DEIB+, Indeed's comprehensive approach—from bias reduction in hiring to leadership training—showcases the company's commitment to creating a workplace where every employee feels valued and included, setting a benchmark for industry peers.

In this episode, Misty joins neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy to share a glimpse into her strategy. She delves into her "4Ps" DEIB+ framework, responds to the idea that Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are exclusionary, and speaks openly about what it feels like to "interrupt, disrupt, and still hold space."

  • "Workplace burnout is essentially unmourned grief," says Sarah Peyton, neuroscience educator and author of "Your Resonant Self." Much of her work has centered around attachment styles and how they impact our everyday interactions. In this episode, Sarah and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy explore what it looks like for leaders to acknowledge grief and model healthy emotional responses at work. They delve into the latest findings on loneliness and social connection, including a deep dive into the circuits of emotion and motivation — neuroscientist Jaak Panksepp's body of work.

  • Recently, affirmative action has ignited a fiery debate across the U.S., partly fueled by a Supreme Court reversal with major consequences for college admissions and workplace DEI policies. Amidst this contentious backdrop, the narrative extends far beyond American borders, touching on global discussions about race, inclusion, and equity.

For decades, South Africa's public consciousness has been defined by the lingering effects of Apartheid. As a Nigerian immigrant who grew up and started her career in South Africa, Lovelyn Nwadeyi had a front-row seat to the painstaking process of dismantling governmental and economic structures entrenched in racism.

In this episode, we bridge continents as Lovelyn and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy surface the parallels between the past and present of South African and American race relations. They delve into how historical structures continue to perpetuate exclusion and explore how organizations can embed social justice in their daily practices.

  • Americans are divided on whether being described as "woke" is an insult. Jennie Yang, a specialist in neuro-linguistic programming, thinks a lot about the power of language. Her career has been rooted in fast-paced tech environments, including AppAnnie and TigerConnect, and, in recent years, she has led the people function at 15Five.

In this episode, Jennie joins neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy to explore the origins of the term "woke," its true meaning, and how organizations should approach social and political issues. They unpack how capitalistic and patriarchal systems go against compassion, especially during a period of significant turmoil in the tech industry.

Throughout the conversation, they offer tools to foster psychological safety and process grief and trauma at work—crucial in times of layoffs, limited investment dollars, and shrinking budgets.

  • "When the basis of belonging is conforming to a group, that's not belonging. It's a contingency," says Adina Sterling, an organizational theorist and economic sociologist whose research focuses on inequality in the workplace. She has studied topics like hiring processes, social networks, bias, and how they perpetuate social disparities.

She developed the popular MBA class at Stanford University called "Equity by Design: How to Build Diverse and Inclusive Organizations" and founded the Equity by Design Lab (EBDL). More recently, she became a faculty member at Columbia Business School.

In this episode, Adina and neurobiology expert Rajkumari Neogy examine the pitfalls of hyper-competitive environments. They explore the outcomes that diversity helps organizations achieve, the latest research on bias, and practices to promote creativity and innovation at work.
