When you learn about some of the more outlandish things Bev takes on, like six rescue horses, do you ever wonder how she makes those decisions and loops her family in? Spoiler alert, sometimes she doesn't. But as a neurodivergent person that is actively seeking to face her own bullpoo while also having grace and love for herself, recognizing where she could make different choices that would be better for her AND her loved ones, is key to farming more joy.
In this episode, you'll hear all about how Bev agreed to rescue 6 horses, without discussing it with her loved ones first. She shares how that negatively impacted their relationship, how she took responsibility for that decision, and ways she's working to grow so she can be true to herself without harming her relationships.

Is it possible to master the art of joy farming? I truly believe you can. But it requires a willingness to explore what might work for you and abandon those things that don't.
In this throwback episode from the Rural Woman Podcast, I shared my evolution and philosophy surrounding joy farming and one of my favourite things, my first garden journal!
Learn how I set up that first garden journal and how I'm upgrading it for the upcoming season in 2023.

Rural life can be isolating. I've felt a tad isolated lately with all this solo podcasting I've been doing, so this week we're throwing it ALL THE WAY back to Minisode 21, Drink & Celebrate Rural Women.
In this episode, Sam, Katelyn & I explore how storytelling connects us and how sometimes, we really don't know how we're going to do it. We always manage to, though, don't we? And you can do this too. Whatever "this" is.

This week we're replaying the 2nd episode of the Living Homegrown Podcast Bev was a guest on. This episode was recorded in early 2018, shortly after Drink & Farm was launched, and she brought home her first goats. Listen to learn about some of the anxieties and fears a new goat keeper faces, learning about how to care for goats, and experiencing the first farm loss. It's been over 4 years since this episode was recorded, which is a great reminder that change takes time! Looking back at where you've been is an excellent way to recalibrate when the pace of life feels like it's getting ahead of you. It's no secret, I have a lot of things I'm working on at any given moment. A friend recently pointed out to me that it looked from the outside, I had lost my connection to why I had started all of this in the first place. Hearing that was uncomfortable, but necessary for me to really reflect on as I shift my focus. Have my priorities changed? Or do I need to reconnect to my why so I can reorganize my life in a way that allows room for more of me? Is 2022 Bev really so different from 2017 Bev?
Travel back in time with me to my first podcast interview ever with Theresa Loe of the Living Homegrown Podcast, and reflect with me on where I started, and how it relates to where I'm going.

Every week I overcommit myself in every aspect of my life. Nothing has made this fact more obvious to me than the opening of our brick & morter pop-up shop.
And I know I'm not alone in this. In the entreprenuer, homestead, and farming spaces it's totally normal to be multitalented and multipassionate. But how multitalented and multipassionate are you really? Is the effort really worth the end result? Do you really find joy in everything you're doing yourself? Or could it bring you more joy on all levels to outsource a little more?
In this episode, learn how I make that determination for myself, and the process I follow to decide whether to outsource or do it myself.

To celebrate the spooky season, let's revisit the unpenned history of scarecrows. Not to be dramatic, but it's totally true, the historical records about scarecrows are pretty sparse. But it's full of interesting history, fun and not so fun facts, and we think you'll appreciate having this scarecrow knowledge up your sleeve for this weekend's Halloween parties.
If you don't go to parties (like us) you can totally bust this info out at your next work meeting!
