The penultimate episode of season 4 has arrived and this is the one where LENA OLIN IS BACK!! This is the one where we learn Irina didn't die and our team needs to rescue her before they head to Russia to stop Sophia and Sloane from unleashing the Mueller device on the world.
It's also the one with one of Bree's favorite exchanges of the entire series. You will find the referenced Television Without Pity recap here.

This is the one where everyone finally learns about Sophia Elena (and the name is now canon...Marshall says it!) and we finally learn what went down in Sienna between Nadia and Sloane. This is ALSO the one where we get the major reveal that Irina is alive!

This is the one where Arvin Clone is back (and so is Emily! sort of!)! Arvin Clone steals an orchid critical to a plot ot change humanity for Rambaldi and our team at APO must find Clone AND the orchid. After capturing Clone, who is not only convinced he's the real deal, but also has the same brain (?!), Marshall sends Sloane into a deep memory regression about Jacqueline in order to use that memory to force Clone to resume his real identity and share the location of the orchid.

This is the one where we have Sophia/Elena doing bad things with the guy from Legally Blonde, Jack hallucinating lucidly, and we get to see Sydney playing Laura to help get information they need from Jack to help save his life. This is also the one where Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) absolutely love Marshall (major kudos to Kevin and the writers)

This is the one where we the audience find out Sophia is ELENA DEREVKO!! Okay, but that's actually just the very end of the episode. So, this is the one where we learn what Jack and Sloane have been hiding that they were searching for Elena, the cruelest of the Derevko sisters, because she was stalking Sydney and Nadia. This is also the one where Sophia comes to stay with Nadia (and Sydney) and she plants a bug on a necklace she gives Nadia.

This is the one where Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) go back and rewatch the second set of episodes (episodes 13 - 16) that were aired in a different order than they were originally written and examine the impact on the season and flow of episodes.
Season 4 intended/written order:
(the bolded episodes are the ones that were aired "out of order"... this episode tackles the second section of bolded episodes)
APO 1 APO 2 The Awful Truth Detente Ice Nocturne Echoes A Man of His Word Welcome to Liberty Village The Index
The Road Home The Orphan Nightingale Pandora Another Mister Sloane Tuesday A Clean Conscience

This is the one where Joel Grey (aka Another Mister Sloane aka Arvin Clone) is posing at Arvin Sloane. He kidnaps Dr. Maggie Sinclair to build a Rambaldi artifact, the Mueller device, for him. Our APO team sans Sloane goes on a mission with the coil to get to Joel Grey, but Joel Grey gets away with the coil, so Sloane is brought into the mission to figure out what Arvin Clone will do next.
This is also the one where Jess and Bree try to figure out what Jess' first episode of Alias was and... was it this episode????

This is the one where we drop directly into the action and then time jump back to where it all started and we get a surprise guest appearance by our favorite Aunt Katya. This is also the one where we discover ANOTHER Mister Sloane, and Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) fan girl over Joel Gray.

This is the one where we go on the hunt for Nightingale... separately and sort of together? Sydney and Vaughn are running a countermission to Sloane and Jack and we don't know why (which makes Bree AND Jess very nervous). This is also the one where Vaughn met Roberts for more information and injected himself with an unknown substance a la Alice in Wonderland.

This is the one where Sydney gets buried alive, almost the entire team is locked inside APO, leaving Marshall to race to her rescue.
It's also the one where Marshall pretends to be Jack Bristow...and then has to use a spork to remove an eyeball. This is also the one where Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) consider putting the entire script into the running for this mission's quote vote.

This is the one where a blast from Nadia's past is in the picture and that takes us into Nadia's past through a series of flashbacks.
It's also the one where Vaughn tells Sydney about his dad's journal and seeks more information. This is also the one where Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) discuss the state of television and network interference at length.
MUSIC: The featured music in this episode matches from streaming to original.
-
This is the one where Sydney endangers a civilian (Jason Segel AKA Marshall Erickson) and Vaughn follows clues in his father's journal and learns some shocking information.
This is also the one where Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) need a Spy Daddy (the early years) spin off and JJ can have ALL the credit…and they also question how the “known for” listings are chosen for IMDB and how in the world How I Met Your Mother doesn’t make that cut on Jason Segel’s page.

This is the one where we think Sloane is up to no good (or at least Dixon does) and then it turns out Jack and Sloane are in cahoots?!
It's also the one where Nadia has a birthday, doesn't want to celebrate, gets talked into celebrating, and is then very disappointed when Sydney set up the dinner so she could spy on Sloane. It's ALSO the one where Vaughn goes to see his ailing uncle in the hospital only to receive his dad's journal with... entries after his death?! Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) have way more questions than answers this episode.

This is the one where Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) go back and rewatch the first set of episodes (episodes 4 - 9) that were aired in a different order than they were originally written and examine the impact on the season and more particularly the characters.

This one is a "classic" (just as Sark and also Jess (@jesspkoehler)! After Anna shoots Nadia at the end of last episode, we find Nadia in a coma most of this episode while Jack has Marshall work to learn what Nadia knew that led to Anna shooting her (and then trying to shoot her again!). Ultimately, Jack pulls Nadia out of her coma early. This is also the one where Sark will only talk to Sloane, Sark gets sent on a "glorified date" mission with Sydney and Vaughn, and he is extracted by Anna. THEY TEAM UP! This is also the one where Bree (@bleach226) keeps misprouncing Anna's name for no good reason.

This is the one where we get both ANNA ESPINOSA and SARK back on our screens! (aka Gina Torres and David Anders)....need we say more?
It's also the one where we, Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) love how "classic" Alias this episode feels...and have concerns about why Sloane is even in the building.
MUSIC: The featured music in this episode matches from streaming to original.

This is the one where Sydney keeps going off book during her missions with Nadia. This is the one where Nadia and Sydney get an invite to Boris' hotel room to steal his information about the sale of black thorine (much to Sloane's frustration and everyone else's delight) and then they go on ANOTHER mission to steal the vials before the sale occurs (where once again Sydney goes off script when she talks to the purchaser about Sloane. It's also the one where we, Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler), enjoy Vaughn's smile, love Dixon, and wonder when Alias will stop living in a stand alone episode world.
MUSIC: The featured music in this episode matches from streaming to original.
-
This is the one where Alias tries its hand at a horror-type episode (and succeeds), and Sydney nearly loses her mind. This is also the one where (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) really start to wonder the impact of the air order versus the written order of the episodes this season.
CONTENT WARNING: This episode (and our discussion about it) contains some intense scenes with two suicides. Please listen (and watch) with care. (Note: the Disney+ version is slightly less intense in the events leading up to the suicides than the original version on the DVDs)

This is the one where Sydney and Vaughn go undercover as a married Russian couple pretending to be a married American couple in Liberty Village, a training site for the October Contingent. This is also the one where Vaughn tells a story about proposing at the Santa Barbara Zoo in front of a crooked-neck giraffe and it turns Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) into complete saps. This is also the one where we give Tom a performance evaluation for his plan... was it really the best decision to have the spies that they recruited kill each other just because they weren't ready for this mission????

This is the one where we learn if you freeze dry a person they shatter into cereal...possibly Fruity Pebbles, Vaughn is a priest, and we go "old school" spy. This is also the one where Bree (@bleach226) and Jess (@jesspkoehler) gush over the commentary and have many 2005 moments.
