  • In his late 50's Kym McGuinness was 40+ kgs (100lbs) overweight and struggling with chronic knee pain in both knees which made exercising extremely difficult. He required surgery to replace both knees but the surgeon made it clear his chances of a successful result would be greatly hindered by being so overweight. He made the decision to undergo Gastric Sleeve surgery to lose the weight required because he knew he would struggle to lose the weight through exercise and diet.

Kym acknowledges that this is not a course of action for everyone but he knew himself and felt that it was his best chance to lose the required weight and regain his health. He is now able to exercise without pain, he only needed to have his right knee replaced and he now watches his diet and is loving his more active and healthy lifestyle.

  • In this episode I chat with trainer, coach and entreprenuer Chris Albert. In 2013, Chris Albert found himself at a crossroads in his life. Over the last decade, Chris had left his military service in the Marine Corps and wasted years with alcoholism, drug use, and chasing things that were not helping him advance his life.

After sobering up, Chris decided that he was no longer going to waste time. He devoted his life to fitness and became a well known trainer and coach, eventually opening Metroflex Gym in Long Beach, California. But with little business experience and a debilitating illness lying just under the surface, Chris's battles were just beginning.

In 2012, Chris began getting severe flare ups of Ulcerative Colitis. The disease left him weak after he began losing blood through his intestinal tract and he soon got to the point that he could no longer train one on one clients. Without a way of making income, Chris soon had to sell his shares of the gym and he found himself living out of his car with just the clothes on his back, his dog, and a computer that a friend had given him.

With no other options left, Chris began making YouTube videos about fitness. His message resonated with viewers around the world and soon people from as far as Australia and Europe were contacting him to see if he could be their online trainer. Chris moved from his car and into a rented room and began growing his business. At the same time, Chris began researching everything he could to bring his ulcerative colitis into remission and successfully did this after implementing a holistic nutrition protocol based on an anti inflammatory diet. Amazed at his fortune, Chris began looking at where he wanted to dedicate his life and he began hearing about some of the battles that his brothers and sisters in arms in the veteran community were facing.

Chris used the money he amassed from his training business to bootstrap Warrior Soul Fitness, a company dedicated to inspiring veterans to live their best lives. It began with clothing that would inspire a sense of pride amongst those who served, but his focus quickly moved to creating content that could help all veterans whether they bought Warrior Soul products or not. Through the Warrior Soul Podcast, the Warrior Soul Blog, and Chris Albert Fitness, Chris has reached hundreds of thousands of people in and out of the veteran community and helped them with topics such as mental health, fitness, wellness, relationships, and entrepreneurship.

  • A quick recap of what I've learned so far from our guests and listeners. It has been a joy to spaek with all the guests and hear their stories and learn from their experiences and be able to share this with you has been amazing.

  • This weeks guest is Neil Williams. Neil is a London based Podcaster & Vlogger who loves to move, whether it's gymnastics, callisthenics or even dance it doesn't matter as long as you are moving. Neil believes the moment we submit to the notion that it is inevitable for us we age to lose flexibility and mobility we effectively accept and declare ourselves OLD. He believes there is no valid reason or excuse to watch our health diminish before our own eyes. His mantra is Grow Old Healthy, don't submit to Old Age - you have to work on it but it is worth it.

Neil has a lot of wisdom in the movement space and we think you'll enjoy today's conversation.

  • On today's episode Paul chats with Earl Nelson, @trinity_fitness16.2 on Instagram, a 37 year old native of Maplewood, New Jersey in the United States. Nine years ago Earl tipped the scales at approximately 370 pounds (167kg), he now tips the scales at a ripped 225lbs (102kg). Earl's journey to better health and fitness hasn't been easy with a few ups and downs along the way but as Earl says "It's a daily decision and grind" but you just make the decision every day to get the work done.

Since his transformation Earl has dedicated himself to helping others improve their health and fitness. He understands that we are all different and respond to different methods of training and diet but he believes we all need to know why we want to change and then once we now our why it's your mindset that will be the key to your success. Earl believes you have to commit, you can't sit on the fence, you are either committed to change or you are not.

A common theme among our guests is that they don't sugar coat the weighloss challenge, they tell it like it is and acknowledge it is going to be hard, probably the hardest thing you have ever done - BUT IT IS WORTH IT!

  • In this episode of the Adelaide Real Podcast - A guide to getting your fit together Paul speaks with legendary hard core Punk rock icon John Joseph about his journey out of a dysfunctional and abusive childhood to world wide recognition. Along his life journey to date John has been in a foster home, abused, incarcerated, stabbed, shot, the Navy, sold drugs, a drug addict, on the run from the feds, a Hare-Krishna munk, lead singer and writer with the hard core punk rock band the Cro-Mags, an Author, a vegan and Ironman athlete. He's survived it all!

Inside the tough exterior is a man with a heart of gold, amazing really considering the life he has lived. He raises money for charitable causes when competing in Ironman events, he gives his time and lends his experience to youths in his community that may learn from his mistakes. He educates people, through his videos on youtube and books, Evolution of a Cro-Magnon and Meat is for Pussies, of the benefits of a vegan diet. Christian has a background as a high level Triathlon competitor, as an officer in the Mountain Infantry Division of the German Army, a Yogi and he is now a Podcaster (The Authentic Creator Podcast) and Content creator for business.

Christian talks about his early years and the challenges his family faced and how they came through these challenges.
