Welcome to the Artful Eating Podcast! Karina and Jessica here to explore all things pleasure. From food, travel and sexuality, to all the ways pleasure works on our psyche. We will have monthly guests, whom we admire greatly, to delve into their own personal paths to pleasure. Today we talk about our new collaboration The Inner Journey, you can find out more about it over on artful-eating.com. We hope you carve out some time for yourself to listen in the way that makes you happiest: on a walk, with a glass of wine...remembering that pleasure doesn't discriminate. We can all have it in our own way at any time, should we so choose. In fact, it unites us. Let's explore the path of pleasure.

This month our challenge is to be much more considered about what we consume; food, purchases, products... The theme is to waste less, appreciate what we have more and privilege quality over quantity. We've all herd of minimalism, but why is it so hard? I dig into the reasons why we always want more and why our desire can never truly be satisfied. I hope this insight provides you with the understanding and resolve to stop consuming unnecessarily and start appreciating what you already have.

Why is it important to carve out time for creativity? I explore this with the most creative person I know: Jette Verdi. We chat about seeking out creative inspiration, be it in nature, theatre, music, art or literature. We explore how being creative replenishes one spirit. Privileging space for creativity and play is uplifting, nourishing and helps us feel good.

We can have a tendency to take our body for granted. We don’t typically feel wonder or awe at how truly marvellous it is. In fact the opposite is often true; we complain of feeling tired, overweight, having a headache, a sore back, need I go on? We focus most on our body when it fails us, instead of celebrating this incredible life-power which serves us in such a beautiful and functional way.
This month is an opportunity to remedy this. Join me Karina Melvin, author of Artful Eating , as I discuss the body: physical, pleasure, praise and appreciation!

I cannot believe we are halfway through 2018! This mid-point seems to me the perfect time to reconnect with the Artful Eating philosophy so that's what I've devoted June's theme to.
We really have lost site of the joy of eating and the pleasure of nourishing ourselves with food we enjoy. This months podcast will definitely help you reconnect with eating for pleasure. It’s time to shift from controlling what and how we eat to listening to our bodies and privileging pleasure. Weight loss is a joyous consequence!
For those of you that are familiar with the Artful Eating way of approaching food and pleasure, this podcast will be a little refresher and for those who are new to this approach to weight loss, then this is a little introduction, and you can find out so much more by checking out my book ‘Artful Eating’ either on Audible or on Amazon or any good book store. If you like what you hear on the podcast and are 'hungry for more (pun intended) then do check out my online program which is a comprehensive training in the Artful Eating philosophy.

Join me Karina Melvin, psychologist, psychoanalyst and author as I discuss something that leads to so much anxiety and self-doubt - the unknown! I talk about what can happen when we embrace the positives that can come from a position of not knowing, and how instead of being scared by uncertainty we can actually use it to our advantage. Whether it be trusting our intuition on that next move or even just listening to our gut when it comes to our next meal, sometimes we have to go with the uncertainty and embrace the unknown. You'll be surprised at what great things begin to happen along the way...

April's podcast is out and it's all about balance. On it I discuss how to keep it simple by sharing some guiding principals which will help you maintain a state of balance.
For me balance means being intentional about how I live my life, attending to pleasure and tolerating pain. We often think of balance in relation to food and health ( for more on this check out my book of course!), but I also think about it in terms of mental health. When our mind is at ease (for the most part) we are in a state of balance.
So instead of imposing some rigid structure in an effort to attain balance, I propose that we think of it more as a state of mind. I am not a zen yogi, but I have found my own route to balance which I’m going to play around with this month.
This includes considering the internal: striving to balance our relationship with desire & lack alongside an effort to simply ‘be’ and hold these in each hand. While externallyendeavouring to enjoy the journey: be patient, don’t judge others (indeed whats the point of that), and trust that things will unfold in good time. All of this (and more) will be explored on the podcast, my hope is that it will help you to think about balance differently and make it easier for you to attain balance in your life.
I think it's a good one, well I enjoyed recording it :), and I really hope it inspires you! -
What is a good life? It's a deceptively simple question, and one that has a different answer for everyone. Join Karina Melvin as she discusses how we can find an answer to our own personal question, one that can help to shape the story we tell ourselves and the life we want to, and can, live.

So February is all about love. My mission ( and indeed yours should you choose to accept it) is to hold a position of LOVE for the month. I'm interested in finding out if it affects both your relationships, productivity, and see if it informs how you experience your world!
I do understand how challenging ones circumstances can be, working with people in my clinic on a daily basis I am consistently reminded of the complex nature of the mind and how our intentions don't always match our actions. With this in mind, I know how trivial it can be to encourage people to simply 'be happy' or 'feel loved' and that's certainly not what I'm advocating here. Instead I am interested to see what the power of holding this word in ones thoughts has on our experiences. That's it. No major effort, just this word as a sort of talisman for the month.
If you're intrigued, then please listen to the podcast to find out more.... -
