Today we share with you, our beautiful listener, a high level breakdown of… the Entourage Effect. Now it’s often talked about in the industry and debated heavily amongst scientists, researchers and patients, so let’s talk about where we’re currently at. We explore its basic functionality, how the combined action of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids produces a more significant effect than their isolated actions. We discuss the history of the Entourage Effect, its implications for patient experiences, the role of extraction methods in preserving it, and the unexplored interactions between the vast array of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids found in cannabis. Enjoy the debate, you may even hear some heat from our favourite cannabis scientist this ep.
P.S. I did some digging... apparently Aristotle is the one who said "the whole is far greater then the sum of its parts." But who really knows hey?
In this episode, we welcome back our resident expert guest, plant enthusiast, final year Ph.D. candidate in the genetics of medicinal cannabis at La Trobe University, friend and favourite cannabis scientist, Gianni Del Rosario-Makridis. Welcome to a highly requested, personal favourite episode of mine, Intro to Terpenes and Flavonoids. Now we keep it high level and basic for this 20 minute ep to not get too stuck in the weeds. It’s a fascinating world, terpenes and flavonoids, so we sit down to understand their core functionality, therapeutic benefits, and how they extend beyond cannabis. We discuss the unique properties of terpenes like myrcene, beta-caryophyllene and limonene, their presence in various plants, and their potential effects. We also explore the differences between terpenes and flavonoids, and how terpenes can be extracted and utilised in different industries - aka skin care products, fragrances, and so on. I’ve also got a juicy fact that I bring to the end of the ep (no clickbait intended - the window of opportunity to share throughout the ep just snuck up on me), so jump in the conversation and enjoy!

In episode #5 Charlie introduces co-host James as the expert for the first (and last) time! They discuss the rapidly changing space of medical cannabis, pathways for obtaining in Australia, the requirements for a doctor to be able to consider you for medical cannabis treatment, how patients can find a doctor who can prescribe medical cannabis, and the costs associated with access in Australia. If you're interested in medical cannabis, this episode is a great practical guide for you.
Co-Host James is the perfect person to break down how to access medical cannabis in Australia after going through the process on his own health journey. Three years ago, James was diagnosed with Lyme's disease, being the cause of chronic pain in his neck for years prior. After trialling all the conventional medication he could and having no long term success, he fell upon CBD oil. After seeing significant changes and going through the rigmarole it took to access, he made it his mission to create an affordable access pathway for everyday Australians far and wide.
