1100 Indian Soldiers were killed during Operation Pawan in which Indian Peacekeeping Forces were sent to Sri Lanka in 1987. Major PS Ganapathi of the 8th battalion of the MAHAR Regiment was also deployed on this mission. He was executing an operation that was supposed to last twelve hours but continued relentlessly for seventy-two hours. For three days, Major Ganapathi and his team were fighting against heavy firing by the LTTE. 11 members of his team were killed during these three days. Colonel Ganapathi narrates shocking incidents and makes one wonder why Operation Pawan is not talked about like we talk about Kargil. His words spark a newfound respect for freedom and for the Veer who sacrifice themselves to protect the innocent.

There was peace in the valley, and between India and Pakistan. But then a war broke out. Indian Army never expected the Pakistani Army to steep down so low. Regular Soldiers of the Pakistani Army entered the Indian Terrain disguised as terrorists and established their bunkers on top of the mountain peaks. Indian Army fought back. In 1971, India was fighting a war with Pakistan on the Eastern side. Liberation of Bangladesh was the prime motive. However, India's neighbour Pakistan planned on attacking India from the West. Puunch village in Jammu and Kashmir was of supreme importance from the Army's strategic point of view. But the approach to reach Puunch was through Balnoi. The attack on the Indian Army was planned for the night. Amidst freezing cold waves of December, the Indian Army battled with Pakistan. Brigadier JK Tomar, along with his men, crushed the dreams of the Pakistani Army. He was awarded Vir Chakra by the then President of India - V.V. Giri. In 1971, India won the war and Pakistan surrendered. However, one mission was still incomplete. Bangladesh's to be Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family was being held captive by Pakistani soldiers. Major Ashok Tara was given the responsibility to make sure that Rahman's family was safe. During a daring rescue from the clutches of the Pakistani Army, Tara saved the life of Sheikh Hasina and her newborn child. he was awarded Cir Chakra for his bravery during the Gangasagar operation in 1971. Colonel Tara got recognition for saving the life of a future Prime Minister in 2012 when Dhaka announced it was conferring the 'Friend of Bangladesh' Award to him.
