Recovery involves setting some boundaries with food, with the primary boundaries being to avoid binges and to avoid restriction. You can also use gentle, loving boundaries in other ways—as tools that help you protect your time, energy, and mental clarity so that you can connect with your higher brain and make recovery-promoting choices.

Physical hunger and fullness signals aren’t the only driver of eating. We also have what I’m calling “stop and go signals” which are primarily thoughts, but also feelings and sensations that encourage us to eat or stop eating that are independent of physical hunger and fullness cues. In this episode, you’ll learn to understand and react to these signals in a way that moves you toward recovery and a healthy relationship with food.

The goal in recovery is to avoid binges, but that usually doesn’t happen 100 percent of the time as you are learning to eat normally and dismiss urges to binge. In this episode, Coach Julie and Kathryn talk about how to keep moving forward if you have a binge or multiple binges. If you treat any binge you have as a “learning moment,” you will be able to make necessary adjustments and gain confidence that you can fully let go of the habit.

Dr. Ramani Durvasula joins Kathryn Hansen to talk about the intersection between eating disorders and narcissistic relationships.
You'll learn: How parents with narcissistic traits can lead their children down a path to restrictive dieting, body image issues, and emotional overregulation. Why some of the qualities that make a person susceptible to an eating disorder (such as perfectionism and low self-esteem) can also make them vulnerable to getting stuck in narcissistic relationships in adulthood. How harmful relationships dynamics can become connected to harmful eating habits...and much more!If you are experiencing toxic relationship patterns in addition to your struggle with food, this episode with Dr. Ramani will provide guidance and a path to healing.
