In this episode, Iâm inviting you into something that feels almost impossible in todayâs fast-paced, noisy world: silence. Real, soul-nourishing, God-soaked silence.
Recently, I attended a silent retreat with the Dominican Sisters at the Bethany Retreat House in Dickson, TNâa retreat I wasnât even supposed to attend. But God made a way, and He used that quiet weekend to open up a space in my heart I didnât even realize was closed.
Iâve always thought I was pretty comfortable with silenceâno TV during the day, no radio in the carâbut the retreat showed me something deeper. It wasnât just the silence that changed me; it was disconnecting from my phone, the world, and all the distractions that keep me busy and numb. In the quiet, I began to hear God again⊠and also myself.
What surprised me most was what came up when the noise stoppedâfeelings I had pushed down, especially resentment I didnât even realize I was holding. Even though I thought I was doing the work of forgiveness after the deep betrayal in my marriage, God gently revealed that I was still clinging to resentment. And He met me thereânot with shame, but with healing.
In the silence, I stopped doing and started being. I sat with God in the ashes of pain, and He began lifting the weight off my heart. It was uncomfortable, but it was also holy.
If youâve been longing for clarity, healing, or simply a break from the constant noise, I invite you to pause with me today. Letâs talk about how silence can become a sanctuaryâwhere we meet God, where we meet ourselves, and where real healing begins.

And how saints like St. Catherine of Siena and St. Monica can guide us in todayâs polarized world!

Iâm thrilled to have author Kate Battistelli joining me to talk about her brand-new book:
The After Party of the Empty Nest: Mom Is Not Your Only Name.If youâre in a season where the kids are grown and gone, and youâre wondering whatâs next...

Or if youâre sensing God is calling you to more, but you're not sure where to start...This episode is for YOU.
Kate shares so honestly about the grief, loneliness, and confusion she felt when her only daughter left homeâand how God used that season to awaken a brand new purpose in her life. We talk about:
Why the empty nest can feel so hardâand why you donât have to stay stuck in it
The lies women believe in midlife (like "I'm too late" or "I'm not enough")
How volunteering, dreaming again, and saying âyesâ to God can open new doors
Why it's okay not to have it all figured outâand how obedience always matters more than perfection
Kateâs story is full of hope, laughter, and real-life encouragement. Whether youâre already in the empty nest or you see it coming, I promise this conversation will remind you that God isnât finished with you yet. Thereâs so much more ahead.

Have you ever felt like youâre carrying the weight of the world, trying to hold everything together? I know that feeling all too well. In this episode, Iâm sharing from my own experience as a Catholic mom in midlife who struggles daily with the need to control everythingâespecially when life feels uncertain or overwhelming. Whether you're facing an empty nest, a struggling marriage, unanswered prayers, or unexpected change, I want you to knowâyou are not alone. Together, weâll explore what it really means to surrender our fears and let God step into the places weâve tried to manage on our own.
I also open up about how our parenting styles and control tendencies can reveal deeper wounds that need healing. I talk through common patternsâlike helicopter or snowplow parentingânot to judge, but to help us understand the roots of our desire to protect and control. These patterns often trace back to our own unhealed stories. Through this conversation, I want to encourage you to look inward with compassion and to invite God into those tender places so He can bring healing and restoration.
This episode is a personal invitation to breathe, release, and trust. I share how God has been challenging me to release my own expectationsâeven when His answers to my prayers have looked so different from what I hoped for. If youâre wrestling with fear, regret, or trying to control the outcome of things in your life, this is your reminder that God sees the whole picture. Surrender isnât giving upâitâs choosing to trust the One who loves you most. Join me as we walk this Lenten journey of healing together.

In this weekâs show, Iâm sharing something a little different for Lentâan examination of the heart. Weâre used to hearing about an examination of conscience, but this goes even deeper. Lent is more than just fasting, prayer, and almsgiving; itâs also an invitation to slow down and take a hard look at whatâs really in our hearts. Sometimes, without even realizing it, we carry around old woundsâsome fresh, some buried beneath years of busyness, distractions, and taking care of everyone else. But God wants to bring those wounds into the light and heal them.
Iâll walk you through five steps to help you recognize whatâs weighing on your heart and bring it to God for healing. Iâve worked with so many women who feel stuck in guilt, regret, betrayal or unworthinessâmaybe that sounds familiar to you, too. The truth is, we donât have to carry this heaviness alone. Healing starts when we get honest with ourselves and with God. Itâs not always easy, but I promise, there is so much freedom, peace, and joy on the other side.
Weâre also going to talk about forgivenessâyeah, that tough one! Itâs not about pretending the hurt didnât happen, but about letting go so it doesnât have power over us anymore. Iâll also share how the sacramentsâespecially confession and the Eucharistâhave been such a huge part of my own healing journey. If youâve been feeling weary, distant from God, or just weighed down, this episode is for you. So grab your journal, find a quiet place, and letâs walk through this Lenten reflection together. God is waiting to meet you right where you are, and I canât wait to share this with you.

Have you ever felt like Lent is both a season you love and a season you dread? You love the idea of drawing closer to Christ, of letting Him work on the areas of your heart that need healing. But then reality sets inâthe sacrifices feel heavy, the habits youâre trying to let go of seem harder to break, and suddenly, you realize how much you've relied on things that may have taken the place of God in your life. If you're in the middle of this struggle, you're not alone. In this episode of Catholic Moms in the Middle, I'm diving into what it means to truly embrace Lent as a season of inner healing, not just a time of "giving up" but a time of giving inâgiving in to God's transformative grace and allowing Him to do the deep heart work we often avoid.
As midlife women, we know what it feels like to carry burdensâold wounds, disappointments, and heartbreaks that linger far beyond their time. Lent is an opportunity to take those burdens to the foot of the cross and allow Jesus to bring resurrection into the broken places of our hearts. This season, I invite you to move beyond simply examining your conscience and instead, go deeper into an examination of the heart. What if your struggles, your losses, even your sleepless nights are an invitation from God? What if He is calling you into the desert, not to leave you in your suffering, but to heal you in the quiet, to restore your weary soul, and to remind you that the cross always leads to resurrection?
This Lent, I want to walk with you through this journey of healingâone episode at a time. Over the next several weeks, weâll explore how to recognize the wounds that still need healing, how to surrender them to Christ, and how to allow His love to fill the empty spaces in our hearts. If youâve ever felt stuck, if youâre wrestling with past hurts or struggling to trust Godâs plan, I encourage you to lean into this season as a time of renewal. Join me on Catholic Moms in the Middle as we explore what it means to experience true transformation this Lentâone that goes beyond fasting and penance, into a deep and lasting healing that only Christ can bring.

Weâre diving into the Holy Doors of Romeâwhat they are, why theyâre important, and how they symbolize a fresh start in our faith. Joan also shares the history of Jubilee years, what it means to go on a pilgrimage of hope, and how we can embrace Godâs grace, even when weâre in a season of waiting. Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to have a faith-filled guide by your side during childbirth?
In this episode, I dive into the incredible role of a Catholic doulaâsomeone who provides not just physical and emotional support during labor, but also spiritual encouragement. Dawn Cerino, a seasoned birth doula, shares her journey of being called to this work after her own children were grown, and how she now helps mothers bring their babies into the world with peace, prayer, and confidence. Whether assisting with positioning techniques to ease labor or offering heartfelt prayers during delivery, she integrates her faith into every aspect of the birth experience.
You might be wondering, Why feature a doula on a podcast for midlife moms? Many of us are now looking toward the birth of our grandchildren or supporting our daughters and daughters-in-law through their motherhood journeys. This conversation opens the door to understanding the value of a doula, how birth experiences can be deeply spiritual, and why faith-centered support is so important.
Dawn also shares insights into hospital births versus home births, how to create a birth plan, and the crucial role of husbands in providing comfort and reassurance during labor.
Beyond just birth, this episode speaks to the heart of all women who desire to bring faith into every season of life.
Whether you've had your own children or are simply interested in how women can support each other through lifeâs transitions, youâll be inspired by Dawnâs calling and the beautiful way she serves families.

Feeling weighed down by the challenges of midlife? Struggling to find peace in uncertainty or suffering? The Church is inviting you into something truly specialâ2025 is the Jubilee Year of Hope!
In this episode, we explore why this year is set apart and how you can embrace hope in your daily life, no matter what season you're in. Join me as we dive into the biblical roots of Jubilee and how it applies to us as Catholic midlife moms today!
The Church celebrates a Jubilee Year every 25 years as a time of grace, renewal, and restoration. Rooted in Leviticus 25, the Jubilee in the Old Testament was a time when debts were forgiven, captives were set free, and the land was given rest. Today, it is a time for personal spiritual renewal, reconciliation, and reflection on God's mercy.
As Catholic moms in midlife, we experience many changesâour roles shift, our children grow, and our marriages evolve. This Jubilee Year reminds us that God is always calling us to deeper faith, healing, and trust in His plan. Hope is not just a distant concept, but it is a theological virtue that anchors us in God's promises.
In the midst of lifeâs transitions, we are called to trust that God is still writing our stories. Through intentional prayer, scripture reading, reconciliation, and surrender, we can cultivate hope and inspire those around us.
Let this be a time of renewal, where we release our anxieties and embrace the future with confidence in God's faithfulness. No matter what you are facing, hope is your anchorâchoose to trust, surrender, and allow this Jubilee Year to transform your heart!

When Marisol and Garrett welcomed their second baby boy, Dominic, on August 13th, they had no idea the journey they were about to embark on. Diagnosed with Trisomy 18, a rare genetic condition, their story has been one of faith, heartbreak, and Godâs undeniable presence. Many in the Nashville Catholic community have followed their journey, and in this episode, Marisol shares the incredible ways God prepared their hearts and guided them through every moment. From a meaningful connection with a cloistered nun to unexpected signs pointing to a Catholic geneticist on the path to sainthood, this story will leave you in awe of divine providence.
Marisolâs pregnancy seemed completely normal, even after a routine genetic test raised concerns. She and Garrett continued preparing for a peaceful home birth, trusting in Godâs plan. But looking back, she sees how He was planting little seeds along the wayâdreams, names, and even a documentary recommendation that all pointed to St. Jerome Lejeune, the very scientist who discovered the genetic cause of Trisomy 18. When Dominic was born at home, things took a dramatic turn. He struggled to breathe, and in those crucial first moments, Garrett immediately baptized him, grounding their family in faith before calling 911. Those first 15 minutes, though filled with uncertainty, became some of the most sacred and beautiful moments of their lives.
Marisol reflects on how Godâs hand was in every detailâallowing Dominic to go full-term, preparing them for what was to come, and surrounding them with peace even in the scariest moments. She emphasizes how deeply a motherâs intuition is connected to the Holy Spirit, guiding her through decisions that ultimately saved her babyâs life. This story isnât just about a medical diagnosisâitâs about surrender, trust, and the overwhelming grace that comes when we lean into Godâs plan, even when it looks nothing like we expected. If youâve ever struggled with trusting God in the unknown, this episode will remind you that He is always at work, even in the hardest moments.

In this weekâs episode, Father Luke Wilgenbusch and I are diving into the importance of the priesthood and why priests are such a vital gift to our Catholic faith. As midlife Catholic women, we often juggle family, work, and community, and it can be easy to overlook the powerful role of the priesthood in our spiritual lives. Yet, without the priesthood, we wouldn't have the Eucharistâthe greatest gift God has given us!
Father Wilgenbusch shares his perspective on the sacredness and responsibility of being a priest, acknowledging the tension between the human flaws of each priest and the sacramental grace that flows through them. Itâs a beautiful reminder that priests are human like us, but they also carry out an extraordinary mission to bring Christ to us in the sacraments.
We also discuss how we can support the priesthood, especially in the midst of all the negativity and criticism priests sometimes face. Prayer, encouragement, and loving constructive feedback are just some of the ways we can help lift up our priests, who carry a heavy spiritual burden for us all.
As Catholic moms, we are uniquely positioned to strengthen the priesthood by recognizing the importance of these men who serve in our parishes. Father also offers a thoughtful response to the question of why the priesthood is reserved for men, sharing the deeper theological and spiritual reasons behind the Churchâs teaching.
Tune in for this heartwarming and insightful conversation, and learn how you can be a greater support to the priesthood in your own life. Letâs pray, uplift, and appreciate our priests for the incredible role they play in bringing us closer to Christ.

In this weekâs episode, I sit down with Fr. Fye to talk about the beautiful Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. As Catholic women in the middle of life, many of us have been married for years. The busyness of life can sometimes make us lose sight of the depth and meaning of our wedding vows. Fr. Fye helps us rediscover why marriage is not only a beautiful sacrament but a fulfilling and lifelong journey that we are called to embrace.
In this conversation, we dive into the reality that while discussing love at a wedding should be simple, it often means also facing struggles and sacrifice. The ultimate example of love comes from Jesus on the cross. In todayâs world, the word "love" can be hijacked to mean something that only feels good, but marriage love runs much deeper. It doesnât always come easy, but through sacramental graces and the covenant of marriage, couples are empowered with the strength to face challenges and grow together.
If you're a Catholic woman looking to reconnect with the true meaning of your vows, this episode is for you! Join us for an inspiring conversation on the power and beauty of sacramental love.

As a Catholic life coach, Iâve had so many conversations with women in midlife who are carrying heavy burdensâanxiety, regret, past wounds that seem to linger no matter how much they pray. Maybe youâve felt this way too. You want to move forward, to heal, but something keeps holding you back. What if I told you thereâs a sacrament that offers profound grace, peace, and healingâone that many of us have overlooked?
In this week's show, I talk with Father Patrick Fitzsimons about the Sacrament of the Sick. Father Patrick served as a chaplain for the VA hospital for many years even during Covid. He knows first hand how important the Sacrament of the Sick is for those who are suffering and for their family.
If youâre like most Catholics, you probably associate this sacrament with someone on their deathbed. I know I did for the longest time. But the truth is, this sacrament is so much more than that. Itâs a gift of healing that the Church offers to anyone facing serious illnessâwhether itâs physical, emotional, or even spiritual. And for women in midlife, who have spent years taking care of everyone else, this could be exactly what your soul needs.
Iâve personally witnessed the incredible grace that flows through this sacrament. Iâve seen women find peace from the weight of past mistakes, relief from chronic pain, and renewed strength to face the challenges of life. In this episode, weâre going to unpack the beauty of this sacramentâwhere it comes from, how it works, and why it might be the missing piece in your healing journey.
Scripture tells us in James 5:14, âIs anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.â This isnât just about physical sicknessâitâs about any affliction that weighs you down. The Sacrament of the Sick is a tangible way to receive Godâs mercy, to invite His healing into your life, and to step into the freedom He desires for you.
If youâve been struggling with emotional wounds, chronic illness, or even a deep spiritual dryness, I invite you to open your heart to this sacrament. You donât have to carry these burdens alone. God is offering you His healing touch. So letâs dive into this conversation togetherâI truly believe it could change the way you see this powerful sacrament forever.

In this week's show, I talk with Father Rhodes Bolster about the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Have you ever felt like you're carrying the weight of your past mistakes, unable to fully embrace the joy and freedom God desires for you? As Catholic midlife women, we've lived through so many seasonsâsome filled with blessings, others with challenges that have left us feeling burdened and stuck. But here's the beautiful truth: God's mercy is always available, and the Sacrament of Confession is the key to unlocking the peace our hearts long for.
Confession isn't just about listing our sins; it's about experiencing God's boundless love and mercy in a way that renews and restores us. It's a fresh start, a chance to let go of the guilt and shame that can weigh us down and embrace the grace that transforms our hearts and lives.
If you've been avoiding confession, thinking it's too late or too hard, know this: God is always waiting with open arms. Through confession, we are invited to step into His loving embrace, receive His forgiveness, and move forward with renewed hope and joy.
Discover the beauty of this sacrament and allow it to bring healing and freedom to your life. Are you ready to experience the fullness of God's mercy? It's time to let go and step into the grace that awaits you.

In this week's episode, I talk with Father Austin Gilstrap about the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Are you overlooking the power of your Confirmation? Many Catholics misunderstand this sacrament, seeing it as just another milestone rather than the incredible outpouring of grace that it truly is. In this episode, I explore why Confirmation is so much more than a rite of passage. Father Gilstrap shares insights into how this sacrament seals the grace received in baptism and empowers us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. If you've ever wondered about the real significance of Confirmation and how it shapes your faith journey, this episode is for you.
Have you ever questioned whether Confirmation is truly necessary? You're not alone. Many Catholics struggle to understand its purpose, especially when compared to the universally recognized importance of baptism. In our conversation, Father breaks down the beautiful way in which Confirmation strengthens our relationship with God, filling us with divine life and equipping us with supernatural virtues. Whether you're reflecting on your own Confirmation or considering the journey of your loved ones, this episode sheds light on why this sacrament is essential for our spiritual growth.
Do you feel like your faith needs a fresh spark? Confirmation isn't just a one-time eventâit's a lifelong source of grace waiting to be rekindled. For midlife Catholic women, in particular, this sacrament offers an opportunity to rediscover their purpose and embrace God's calling with renewed strength. Learn practical ways to reconnect with the Holy Spirit, stir up the gifts received in Confirmation, and live out your faith more fully. This episode is packed with encouragement, wisdom, and hope for anyone looking to deepen their spiritual life.

Do you ever find yourself going through the motions at Mass, wondering how to connect more deeply with whatâs happening at the altar? Together, weâll uncover the biblical roots of this sacrament and how it can transform your spiritual life.
As midlife Catholic women, our days are full of distractions that can cloud our faith. But God meets us exactly where we are, inviting us into a deeper understanding of His presence in the Eucharist. We will share practical ways to make the Eucharist more meaningful, from adoration to mindful reception during Communion, and how these simple practices can reignite your relationship with Christ.
If youâre longing to feel closer to Jesus and rediscover the joy of your faith, this show is for you. Letâs embrace this season of life by leaning into the gift of the Eucharist, allowing it to strengthen and transform us from the inside out. In this week's show, I am kicking off a series on the Sacraments of the Catholic Church. It is easy to take them for granted and miss the gifts each one offers. To get started I am diving into the sacrament of Baptism with Father Seth Reed. Father shares insights that remind us of our core identity as Godâs beloved daughters, an identity that was first established at our own Baptism. Itâs a chance to revisit that moment when we were claimed by God, giving us a strong spiritual anchor to hold onto during all the ups and downs that come with midlife.
For those of us who are mothers, there's a lot to reflect on. Baptism is a beautiful reminder that our children, no matter how old they get, are a gift from God. Weâve been given the responsibility to nurture and guide them in their faith, and this episode is a gentle nudge to reconnect with that calling. Plus, thereâs comfort in hearing a priest talk about sensitive topics, like what happens to unbaptized infants, reassuring us of God's endless mercy and love. This is especially comforting if youâve ever carried any worries or grief in this area.
The conversation also shines a light on the power of grace, something thatâs easy to forget in the busyness of midlife. We sometimes feel weighed down by past mistakes, regrets, or questions about where our faith stands now. But Baptism isn't just a one-time eventâitâs the start of a lifelong journey with Godâs grace. That grace continues to work in us, even now, in the thick of family life, career shifts, and everything in between. Itâs a reminder that we are always being renewed, no matter where we are in life.

Today, weâre I'm diving deep into the heart of discipleship with Jessika Tate. Discipleship isnât about having it all togetherâit's about guiding others, especially our families, toward a life that mirrors Christ. True discipleship involves forming ourselves in the character of Jesus, walking in His integrity, and understanding that we're all on a journey. As women who juggle so much, we might feel unworthy or ill-equipped to disciple others. Yet, Jesus calls each of us, with all our imperfections, to be His hands and feet.
The truth is, many around us are hungryânot just for food, but for authentic connection and truth. They donât need us to have all the answers or a seminary degree; they need someone who is willing to be real, to open up the Word with them, and to share lifeâs momentsâgood and bad. Discipleship isnât reserved for the perfect or the theological elite; itâs for those who, like us, are willing to be honest about lifeâs struggles and joys. Our family members, friends, and community simply need someone who will walk with them, share a meal, and pray with them. They need to see us living our faith in everyday life, inviting them to do the same, just as Jesus did with His disciples.
In this world of social media filters and polished facades, discipleship calls us to something radical: vulnerability. Itâs about letting others see us in our mess, showing them how we turn to Christ in our struggles, and inviting them to witness how we find peace and hope. Itâs also about letting them see our repentance when we fall short and showing them the mercy of God in our lives. So, as Catholic moms in midlife, letâs embrace the call to discipleshipânot by appearing perfect, but by walking with others in the highs and lows, modeling a life rooted in Christâs love and truth. This is the journey we are on together, a journey where we help one another carry our crosses and, in doing so, come closer to the heart of Christ.

In this week's show, Iâm honored to bring you a deeply personal and moving conversation with Kay Dodd, who shares her journey through motherhood when lifeâs curveballs test our faith and strength in ways we never imagined. Kay opens up about her experience discovering her daughter Hannahâs Down syndrome diagnosis, and how she navigated the waves of grief, fear, and ultimately profound gratitude. She takes us along on the journey from her initial heartbreak to the miraculous moment of holding her daughter, realizing that Down syndrome didnât define her, but instead, added new layers of love and faith to their family. I think so many of us, especially in midlife, will relate to her journey of letting go of expectations and trusting Godâs hand in lifeâs unexpected paths.
Kayâs story reminds us that sometimes Godâs greatest gifts come wrapped in situations we donât expect and even initially resist. Facing this challenge, Kay instead embraced the faith that her daughterâs life was filled with purpose and beauty as designed by God. Itâs powerful to hear how Hannah grew into the little âshining lightâ in her family, teaching all of them â and now, us â the beauty of childlike faith and pure joy.
This episode is not just about Kayâs journey but a call to each of us who have been shaken by lifeâs unexpected changes. As Catholic mothers, many of us have experienced times when we planned for one outcome, only to find life leading us somewhere else. Itâs in these moments of surrender, as Kay so beautifully illustrates, that our faith and trust in God become the anchors that hold us. I hope youâll join me in this episode to hear how embracing lifeâs surprises with faith and courage can transform our hearts and bring us closer to Godâs true gifts.
