David also created Somm.ai, a sales and data analytics tool used by wine companies. David was named a Forbes 30 under 30 recipient and currently resides in New York.

Their mission was met with the approval of many like-minded, happy customers with lines that demanded more trucks, production and eventually scoop shop locations. Today, Van Leeuwen operates over 50 scoop shops, their ice cream is sold in about 10,000 grocery stores, and and they also offer nationwide shipping.

On this week’s episode, host Caryn Antonini is joined by Chef German Rizzo, an Italian-born restaurateur, consultant, caterer and media personality. Hailing from the Piedmont region of Italy, Chef German received his training at the Culinary Art School in Torino and went on to travel internationally, gaining experience throughout Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden and Canada, Hungry for more experience and opportunities, he went to New York where he began working for the renown Cipriani Group. Soon thereafter he opened his first restaurant, Vite Vinosteria in 2018. He went on to open Plado Tasting Bar in the East Village and L’Artista Italian Kitchen and Bar in Hamilton Heights. Chef German is a regular on the Food Network, he was a finalist on Supermarket Stakeout and won the 2018 Little Big Italy Competition.

Born and raised in Torino, Italy, Silvia moved to the United States where she began her professional career in the advertising industry, quickly finding success as an award-winning art director. Her Italian upbringing instilled a passion for the culinary arts which prompted her to shift gears and pursue training at the International Culinary Center in NY. She went on to get her masters in restaurant management at Cornell and a degree from Le Cordon Bleu in London. Silvia has worked in restaurants in London, NY and CT which has included Michelin starred restaurants, the Ritz and Ottolenghi. She launched an innovative culinary group, Strawberry and Sage, has had her recipes and work published in numerous publications and recently authored a cookbook, Les Dames d’Escoffier New York Cookbook - Stirring the Pot.

Josh is a General Manager by training, bringing over 2 decades of experience to his first restaurant concept which also includes an Italian sandwich shop. He got his start in the restaurant industry waiting tables at Cafe Luxembourg and went on to work front-of-house at Sushi Samba and Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill in Manhattan. Along the way, he discovered his passion for wine and interned under Virginia Philip, Master Sommelier at the Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida. As his career advanced, he served as lead sommelier at The Standard Highline, The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and the White Elephant on Nantucket.
