Lesson #1 .pdf - The Idea, The Format and The Name <<< Click to View.
TLDL: Don't limit your creativity, but also don't get too attached to the concepts you have in your head (Idea, Format, Name) until you've done a little work to validate those concepts in the real world.
The .pdf for Lesson 1 contains expanded information the basic Show Format Types, and their Pros and Cons. https://files.captivate.fm/library/c5137469-2be9-4030-bf2d-203a24d1282a/CCiP-Lesson-1-Final.pdf

Josh went back and listened to some of his earliest Podcast Interviews (from 2012 and early 2013) and has managed through all the muck and mess, to pull out several lessons for better Podcast Interviews. This is part 3 of a 3 part series covering the following 3 Lessons.
Today's Lesson: EDIT YOUR PODCAST!!
To paraphrase Howard Fine: If you think editing doesn't matter, then go find your favourite Speech, TED Talk, Joke, etc. and start adding ums, ahs, likes and you knows back into the audio, and see if it makes it better. Hot Tip: It Doesn't.
To paraphrase Roman Mars from 99% Invisible: If you have 500 listeners, and you cut out a minute of fluff from your podcast, you’re not just saving one minute, you’re saving 500 minutes.

This Episode includes discussions of both Anxiety and Bullying, so please take care of yourself while listening today.
Lofty Fulton is one of the most recognisable and much-loved Voice-Actors in Australia. Having first made waves on the FM during the halcyon days of Radio in the 80's and 90's, he then went on to build a very successful (and highly respected) Voice-Over career - with clients including Master Chef Australia, Toyota Australia, McDonald's Australia, and many more household names.
So, why is Lofty on the show?
Well, that's a simple one, Josh absolute loves his audiobook version of "Lofty - My Life In Short", and counts it among his favourite biographies he's ever listened to. Lofty has also faced and overcome more than most to reach the level of success he has in the Audio Industry, so his insights into creativity and perseverance are both powerful and hard-won.

Josh went back and listened to some of his earliest Podcast Interviews (from 2012 and early 2013) and has managed through all the muck and mess, to pull out 5 lessons for better Podcast Interviews.
This is part 1 of a 3 part series covering the following 3 Lessons.
(Annoying plus Sleepy Time) Introducing episodes with a list of apologies and caveats, and delivering that list with less energy than a Three-toed Sloth. (Mistake) Multiple interviews were recorded with the wrong microphone source at Josh's end of the call, and it sounded absolutely horrendous. (Lazy) Josh kept asking Guests to introduce themselves and to "Tell Us About Yourself"....

If you ever catch yourself mid-interview feeling like you're not doing your best work as a Podcaster, try giving yourself a break. You're performing multiple roles IRT. Wait till you listen back to your tape before judging yourself too harshly, as it's probably pretty good.

Crash Course In Podcasting - 4 Things To Do Before Your Next Remote Interview.
Reboot your computer or laptop and install any updates 48-72 hrs prior to the interview.Log-in and check out your connection program (Boomcaster, Riverside, Skype, Zoom, etc.) in case something has changed.Listen or Watch any previous interviews featuring your upcoming Guest at normal speeds prior to the interview.Read your ‘Questions List’ Out Loud prior to the interview. (Often what sounds great in your head, sounds overly convoluted when read aloud).

4 Podcasting Lessons Learned from 4 Years of Stand-Up Comedy:
Trying too hard to sound smart, might just push people away, not bring people in.Do your prep, know it cold, and then forget about it. Just have a crack!Listen back to yourself, and try to Listen-like-a-Listener. (That might take more than one listening session). Recognise the Power of the Pause.Socials:

I wish someone had've sat me down in November 2011 and gave me this list.
Your friends, family and colleagues are all starting to get sick of you talking about a topic - but you’ve still got so much more to say (and share) about that topic. You’re able to have constructive conversations about the flaws in, and issues around, a topic, without getting upset or offended by opposing points of view (you will get those on the internet, trust me!)You’ve written down notes for a test episode but you didn’t really need them when you went to do your test-record. You were able to speak passionately about your topic without the script (even if what you said wasn’t exactly what you had written down). You can see a path to covering costs (or even making money one day), but you don’t actually care too much if you never benefit financially from the show itself (<<< be honest about this one. I've seen many a Passion Focussed Podcaster get frustrated after 6-12months when they haven't made a dime from their Podcasts).Socials:
