Among the telltale signs of a narcissist is their remarkable lack of empathy. Their emotional pantry is bare of compassion and understanding, as if someone forgot to stock it. Imagine this: you are sharing all your fears and vulnerabilities with them, and all they can do is stare blankly and say, "Hmm, that's interesting." Ink on their empathy pen has dried up ages ago, so it's as if they're holding a clipboard and ticking off boxes for "empathy" and "concern." It's as if they're holding a clipboard and ticking off boxes for "empathy" and "concern." So, if you ever find yourself in the presence of someone who couldn't empathize with a puppy wearing a cone of shame, beware! But let's not get carried away with tales of majestic self-obsessed beings staring at their own reflections all day. In clinical terms, narcissism refers to a personality disorder characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance and an insatiable need for admiration. These individuals walk around with a perpetual craving for validation, like walking fashion shows demanding applause after every strut. They also tend to lack empathy for others, viewing them merely as instruments to fulfill their grandiose fantasies. It's as if they believe the world was created solely for their amusement, while the rest of us mere mortals are just extras in their never-ending one-person show. So next time you encounter someone who believes they're the sun around which we all revolve, remember, they may just be living out their own personal Greek tragedy – without even realizing it.

-
In this episode Dr. Reid and Jessica discuss a very common psychological condition called imposter syndrome. Individuals with imposter syndrome have an internalized fear of being exposed as fraud despite evidence to the contrary. Many professionals, especially high achievers, attribute their success to luck or circumstance rather than their own abilities. It makes people feel like they are not qualified or competent enough in their roles, overlooking their accomplishments and believing they have deceived others. People in this category constantly compare themselves to others and downplay their achievements. Perfectionism, self-doubt, and chronic stress can be a result of imposter syndrome. Professionals must recognize and understand this phenomenon in order to develop strategies that promote self-confidence and combat impostor thoughts.
