Today we're talking about two of the most confusing numbers on the scorecard. Course rating and slope. They are related but they speak to two different groups of golfers.

After talking with Chris Finn last week about how to the four rotational centers I wanted to dive a little deeper into one of the things that we touched on lightly. Angle of attack. I'm sure a lot of my listeners have heard the term but I wanted to explain the basics of it and take a closer look at it for the people who aren't as familiar.

This was an amazing final round of the US Open. I love it when there's tons of people in contention and ESPECIALLY when it's because they're all playing really well. This year there were more people in contention compared to last year when Jon Rahm won, but we did see some similar bread crumbs in the success.
One revolves around puttingThe other about target selection
For me I saw 2 main things that the weekend golfer can learn from this final round. If you'd like some help with your putting (and some other things) check out my free 5 Strokes In 5 Days Challenge

Have you ever heard of SIFY? No, not Lady Sif and the warriors three from the Thor movies, but Shots Inside Fifty Yards. This has been a metric I've been following closer and closer so I can determine what is really holding back my score.
Most people will average a little more than 36 putts per round and (especially weekend golfers) will probably miss 16/18 greens in regulation. If we're really being honest with ourselves we can probably say of those 16 greens we miss, we will also duff or skull a couple of those and wind up with multiple chips on one hole. My point being, if you track this and see a number around 60, don't be afraid, let's just dive deeper into the what caused it!
If you want even more detailed stats, look at how long your first putt is after a SIFY shot. That will tell you if your chipping or putting is in more urgent need of attention. At the beginning I would suggest just looking at whether or not you ended up inside or outside of 20 feet. If you can consistently land inside 20 feet from your chips, you are doing better than the average weekend golfer and should be more focused on your putting. Obviously, if that's not the case then you need to spend more time chipping.
If you want some help with either of these you can sign up for our 5 strokes in 5 days challenge, which will walk you through 5 different practice routines that will drastically help your SIFY metrics! I cracked the code on improving your distance without buying new clubs. Here's how!
Ever since I was a kid (probably around age 14) I was always able to out drive adults who were nearly twice my size. The secret for me was the separation between my hands and my chest.
This allowed me to increase my swing arc and (say it with me) REDUCE VARIALBES IN MY SWING! By slightly shortening the length of my backswing so I could maintain that big separation (keeping my hands directly in front of my sternum) I was able to both increase my swing arc and more consistently hit the middle of the club face.
This really helped create a much more efficient transfer of energy into the ball and that's the secret to hitting the ball further with a shorter swing!

Our poll from the Golf 101 Facebook group resulted in an overwhelming request for iron tips, so that's what we'll get into in this episode. Specifically what you're likely doing to that's causing shots to be fat and thin, and more importantly how to quit doing that!

Throughout any golf journey you will see ups and downs in your scores, as well as periods where you play a lot or sometimes don't! For me, living in Wisconsin I have to suffer through winter.
Sure I can go to a simulator, but that can get really expensive in a rather short amount of time.
Here are three ways you can practice your golf game during your offseason to ensure you are as ready as ever when the season starts back up for you.

In this episode I talk with Kiel Alderink from www.mentalgolftype.com about how your Myers-Briggs personality type can impact how you should think about your mental game. I have dealt a lot with these personality tests, I'm an ESTJ, and they are very helpful in a business and at home sense but I never thought to apply it to golf.

I know it's easy to fall into habbits both good and bad, but I tend to see a pretty steady pattern of bad habbits showing up for higher handicap golfers specifically when it comes to chipping.

As a thank you for everyone who stuck with me through all my health issues I put together a 5 Strokes in 5 Days Challenge. Check that out by clicking here â https://www.golfstrategyacademy.com/5in5 That's right, I'm back! I wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who reached out and wished me well with my heart surgery. It took longer than I wanted for my recovery, and if I'm being honest, I'm still not 100%, but I'm good enough to get the podcast going again. _____________________________________________________ Everyone wants to hit their driver better but you have to have a plan if you really want to see improvement. As a golfer you always have to have a plan. A plan for when things are working and a plan for when things are going sideways. Today I'll help you lay out the first couple steps of that plan so you can hit more fairways and start racking up some longer straighter drives. In this video you'll learn: - The difference between alignment and aim (Thanks Rory McIlroy!) - How you can fix your slice by aim further right (wait, whaaaaaat?) - How to stop coming over the top with one simple move - A bonus slice fixing tip at the end of the video Also, if you want a golf group on Facebook where I share multiple tips and tricks per week you can join my Golf 101 group â https://www.facebook.com/groups/Golf101Breaking90

When it comes to golf we know that the mental game is a significant part of the overall process and oftentimes a very underestimated portion of the game too. Letâs look to a master of the mental game, PGA Professional Geoff Greig. Geoff has been helping educate people all about the different parts of the mental game so they can get âin the zoneâ and perform their best.
