In the tapestry of American entertainment, Red Skelton threads a vibrant color of joy. His journey with NBC began in 1939, a time when radio was the hearth around which America gathered. Sponsored by Avalon Cigarettes, Skelton's voice became a familiar comfort with "Avalon Time." As the world braced for change, on October 7, 1941, Skelton offered a new respite, "The Raleigh Cigarette Program." Here, he wove together a patchwork of characters, each unique in their follies and affections, from the lovably disoriented Cauliflower McPugg to the ever inebriated Willie Lump-Lump.One could hear the laughter of a nation in Junior's catchphrase, "I dood it!" — a phrase that wiggled its way into the very lexicon of America. There was the crafty San Fernando Red, with his peculiar seagull companions, Gertrude and Heathcliffe, and the endearing Clem Kadiddlehopper, whose naiveté often outshone the glitter of high society, much to the chagrin of his cynical father. In those times of global unrest, Skelton's show became a vessel for unity, aiding the war effort by selling bonds, and graced by the Nelson family and the melodic waves of the Ozzie Nelson Orchestra.Yet, the laughter paused in March 1944 when duty called Skelton to serve. Despite a trying time overseas that challenged his spirits, he returned with his humor unscathed, remarking with a chuckle, "I was the only celebrity who went in and came out a private."The show's heartbeats resumed on December 4, 1945, with Skelton breathing life into new follies and characters. The show blossomed with the voices of Lurene Tuttle and Verna Felton, the orchestral talents of David Forrester and David Rose, and the vocals of Anita Ellis, before its final curtain in 1949.As time marches on, an irony unfurls: though Skelton's television legacy casts a long shadow, it's the echoes of his radio days that now find a way into the eager hands of nostalgia seekers, a testament to the enduring allure of a voice and a spirit that captivated a nation.

The professional storytellers at StoryLink Radio, known as Seanchaí, are committed to bringing stories to Life through the spoken word as in traditional oral storytelling. We present stories of many genres...
Ancient Myths and Legends, short stories, full length novels, science fiction and high fantasy, philosophy, traditions, drama, fiction, non-fiction, romance, theatre, ghosts & haunts, suspense, stories of the strange, and more!
Our stories may be drawn from contemporary sources, or from some dusty near-forgotten tome. Regardless it is a treat like no other to listen to the stories & tales presented in a "live" format with the emotion and feeling a true professional storyteller brings.
The Seanchai's job is much more than purely entertainment. The Seanchaí is the custodian of stories and traditions in need of preservation, and possesses the skill to ignore the inhibitions of modern day stifled conversations and instead focuses their attention on presenting those of us with keen ears - with the stories of the past, sometimes the present and, perhaps, even of what's to come.
The infectious tones that we hear from their lips allow us to momentarily slip away from the modern day and very real world and conjure up images of Yesterday, Tomorrow, and Fantasy.
So enter here, and let us be your Seanchaí for a time! -

In Fall 2020, as the election draws near, tune in to a searing and searching new audio drama from acclaimed playwright Anne Washburn about America’s present-day divisions, seen through the eyes of the very recent past. SHIPWRECK centers on a group of liberal friends gathered at an upstate farmhouse on a day of crystalline beauty. While the weather outside grows increasingly apocalyptic and the conversation within grows precariously honest, the group discovers that in turbulent times, every dinner invitation comes at a cost. Slated to be a stage production in The Public’s 2020 season, SHIPWRECK has been re-worked specifically for an audience listening from home or headphones. Saheem Ali directs this harrowing and hilarious masterpiece about race, religion, family and the nightmarish fallout of the American experiment.
Featuring Mia Barron , Brooke Bloom, Phillip James Brannon , Bill Camp, Rob Campbell, Raúl Esparza, Sue Jean Kim, Jenny Jules, Bruce McKenzie, Joe Morton, Jeremy Shamos, and Richard Topol. -

No one would have believed, in the last years of the nineteenth century, that the Earth was being scrutinised and studied from across the gulf of space. With infinite complacency, humanity went about its little affairs, serene in its assurance of its empire over matter. It is possible that the micro-organisms we watch under a microscope, do the same. Few people gave thought to the idea of life on other planets, and none imagined that it could be so vastly superior in intellect to ourselves. No one considered the possibility of extra-terrestrial danger. Yet the eyes that regarded our planet were envious and unsympathetic, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.

"Kashtanka," a shaggy-dog story penned by Anton Chekhov in seven parts and first published in 1887, relates the experiences of its eponymous heroine, a fox-faced, reddish dachshund-mix, whose name means 'little chestnut.' After her detestation of music causes her to become separated from the carpenter with whose family she had been living, Kashtanka finds herself taken up by an unusual vaudevillian and goes to live among an assortment of other intelligent animals, each of whom is observed with the characteristic empathy and humor that stamp Chekhov's work.
