Steve is a master connector with over 41,000 contacts.

He does a LinkedIn Live broadcast every week called the Master Connector Show. He eventually pivoted from advertising into technology and now is a business automation consultant. Cody shares the story of a client who improved their sleep apnea score from 44 to 7 in just 6 months through Cody's strength training program, adding an estimated 15 years to their life. Cody discusses the concept of the "lithium method" of coaching, which focuses on developing daily practices and habits to work towards one's vision rather than setting specific goals, leading to positive changes in clients. Cody emphasizes the importance of taking action, starting small if needed, and being willing to pivot and ask for help from others rather than trying to do everything alone as an entrepreneur.

Holistic Branding Approach: Brigadier emphasizes the holistic nature of branding, starting with understanding oneself and extending to understanding the client. It's crucial to remember that people connect with people, not just logos or taglines. This underscores the importance of authenticity and human connection in branding efforts.

Focused Strategy Over Spread-Out Presence: Instead of being present on every social media platform, Brigadier advises focusing on one specific channel where your ideal customers are likely to be. By creating ideal customer avatars and adopting a niche approach, you can tailor your messaging more effectively and avoid spreading yourself too thin.

Balancing Human Touch with AI Tools: While AI tools like ChatGPT can be valuable, it's essential to remember that they're just instruments. Brigadier highlights the importance of maintaining a human touch and providing personalization and emotional depth that AI alone cannot achieve. Balancing vulnerability and human connection with technological efficiency is key to making a lasting impact in branding efforts.

Tip 1: Draw on Plain Paper: Ditch lined paper and opt for plain paper, preferably horizontal, to stimulate spatial thinking and signal a shift in the creative process.

Tip 2: Visualize Later: Don't feel pressured to create visualizations in the moment. Capture traditional notes and then translate them into visual formats afterward to reinforce learning.

Mindset Shift: Acknowledge the Beginner's Gap: Recognize that there's a gap between your current skill level and where you want to be. Understand that improvement takes time and effort, and many people give up before crossing this gap.

Exploration of New Hobbies: Embrace the opportunity to try hobbies that challenge preconceived notions, such as exploring gentle sports like surfing, to broaden horizons and break away from binary perceptions of sports and arts.

Preference for Documentaries and "The Office": Expresses a preference for documentaries over traditional movies and cites "The Office" as a favorite TV show, appreciating its relatable humor and nuanced character dynamics.

  • In this episode, we get to speak with Kimberly Sullivan.

Kimberly grew up in the suburbs of Boston and in Saratoga Springs, New York, although she now calls the Harlem neighborhood of New York City home when she’s back in the US.

Afflicted with a severe case of Wanderlust, she worked in journalism and government in the US, Czech Republic and Austria, before settling down in Rome, where she works in international development, and writes fiction any chance she gets.

She is a member of the Women’s Fiction Writers Association and The Historical Novel Society and has published one short story collection, Drink Wine and Be Beautiful, and three novels: Three Coins, Dark Blue Waves, In The Shadow of The Apennines and Rome’s Last Noble Palace.

After years spent living in Italy with her Italian husband and sons, she’s fluent in speaking with her hands, and she loves setting her stories in her beautiful, adoptive country.

Finish Your Novel: Kimberly emphasizes the importance of completing your novel rather than endlessly agonizing over it. While it's natural to strive for perfection, she suggests reaching a point where you're satisfied with the work and ready to move on to new projects.

Avoid Writing by Committee: While seeking feedback and advice is valuable, Kimberly warns against the pitfalls of writing by committee. She advocates for maintaining confidence in your authorial voice and making executive decisions about your work, rather than letting multiple opinions dilute your creative vision.

Release Your Work Into the World: Kimberly compares sending your novel out into the world to sending a child out into the world. Once it's published, readers will interpret it in their own unique ways, which may differ from your intentions. She advises authors to embrace this diversity of interpretation and not to take it personally.

Embrace Voracious Readers: Kimberly highlights romance and science fiction readers as particularly voracious and dedicated. Writers in these genres often produce multiple books per year to meet the demand of their enthusiastic fan bases. Learning from their prolific output and engagement with readers can be valuable for any writer.

Learn from Master Writers: Kimberly recommends learning from master writers in various genres, such as James Patterson, R.L. Stine, and Steve Martin. Each writer brings unique insights and techniques to the craft, whether it's Patterson's prolific output, Stine's skill in children's horror, or Martin's expertise in comedy.

    Hacks to take away

Start with Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Begin by addressing common questions your audience may have about your industry, business, or services. Compile these FAQs into a resource such as a Google Doc or a video series to provide valuable information upfront.

Leverage Existing Networks Creatively: Utilize existing platforms and networks creatively to build connections and generate income. For example, turning a WhatsApp group into a marketplace for buying and selling goods can be a lucrative venture, demonstrating that social media extends beyond traditional platforms.

Differentiate Yourself: Focus on offering a unique value proposition in your industry or niche. Avoid being just another service provider by showcasing what sets you apart and addressing the specific needs of your audience.

Practice Happiness Hacking: Develop strategies to maintain positivity and resilience in the face of challenges. Creating a "treasure folder" filled with positive feedback and reminders of past successes can help boost confidence and motivation during tough times.

Simplify Social Media Engagement: You don't need to post excessively to make an impact on social media platforms. Consistency is key, so find a posting frequency that works for you and stick to it. Scaling relationship building through regular, even if infrequent, posting can still yield significant results.
