This is an interview I was looking forward to doing from the moment it was booked! My guest is Dan Donovan, founder and CEO of Stratoscope and Ingressotek and a leader in safety and security innovation for large scale events and conferences.
And what sort of events? How about the F1 race in Las Vegas, 13 Super Bowls and 7 Olympic Games.
Dan generously shares his vast experience in the sector providing insights into proactive safety & security, including an overview of the latest technology solutions being deployed in the sector.
As Dan says in our discussion, the goal in preventing mass incidents is not just in the protection of people, but also in protecting the organisation's brand, reputation and bottom line.
This is a fascinating insight into a very specific risk area and was certainly an eye-opener for me. I trust you will enjoy listening to this episode as much as I did recording it!
Check out the Stratoscope website here to find out more.

In this chat, we catch up again with Aaron Painter, CEO of Nametag Inc. After appearing in episode 90, Aaron is back with updates and developments in the identity management arena that all risk professionals need to be aware of.
We talk about why only using multi-factor authentication (MFA) as a strategy is no longer enough - and not just because of the friction created from an experience and cost perspective.
Aaron also shares a worrying trend exploiting a gap in the employment process between the Human Resources team onboarding and IT team provisioning new users (beware foreign actors!).
There is some great advice for risk managers and discussion on why everyone's mobile phone is such a valuable weapon in the fight against identity theft / impersonation.
So great to have Aaron back for this discussion - hope you enjoy it as much as I did! For those looking for more information Aaron's contact details are below:

My guest for this episode is Donna Dupont, Founder and Chief Strategist for Purple Compass. She is an award-winning designer and futurist, and brings skills and insights developed over 25 years working with leaders in healthcare, public safety, defense and security.
In our discussion, Donna explains the work she does helping organisations build their future literacy skills to navigate and lead change in today’s complex and uncertain world. This podcast chat provides a great case study of risk management in action - and not just that but uses an upside risk (an opportunity) as the example.
My guest is Jonathan Egan, CEO and Founder of FabCast Solutions, a vertically integrated contract manufacturing company that specializes in engineered metal and plastic components for small-to-midcap companies.
Jonathan foresaw the increasing demand for nearshoring, and established FabCast Solutions SRL de CV in México to help them assist US businesses in relocating their operations from the Far East to North America.
This provided additional production capacity and cost savings.
Why Mexico you ask? Think of cheaper energy prices, raw material prices being unstable in East Asia, the various tariffs on imported Chinese goods coming into the US, and Mexico bringing more predictable production lead times!
This episode provides an insight into an organisation that has seen an opportunity and used risk management techniques to bring it to reality.
I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did!

In this episode, Anthony discusses 10 risks that every organisation will (or should!) have on their risk register for 2025 along with some thoughts on how to prevent or mitigate them.
It won't come as any surprise to listeners that have worked in risk management for some time that the list looks somewhat familiar - perhaps just the priority changes periodically.
As always, we welcome your feedback and thoughts on potential guests for the program or topics you'd like to hear discussed.
We have a great roster of guests lined up for 2025 so stay tuned. Thanks again for listening!

How mature are your due diligence processes when making key business decisions? Due diligence (DD) is a critical control in ensuring that organisations are making the right decisions that create value for the organisation (and protect its existing people, assets and reputation).
My guest on this episode of the Mastering Risk Management podcast is Lyndee Fletcher, President of Vcheck, a firm that supports clients by providing continuous intelligence through background checks and open-source research, human intelligence, and continuous monitoring.
Lyndee not only shares her own journey but talks of the importance of relying on robust data - in DD, the days of 'gut feel' and intuition are numbered - at least without a robust process to leverage all available data in key decision-making.
This is a fascinating discussion and reminds us that every aspect of doing business is being impacted, and mostly improved, by new technology and innovative processes.

It's here - episode 100 in the Mastering Risk Management Podcast!
And for this milestone episode, I wanted to bring you a very special guest. His name is Gus Balbontin, and I think you'll find him a little different from most of the other guests I've had on the program.
Gus is a keynote speaker, innovator and alternative futurist (listen to how Gus explains this) in his 'day job' and also pens a wonderful weekly newsletter, 'Rebellious Thoughts' designed to push us out of our comfort zone and towards peak performance.
This discussion has Gus sharing his vast experience, on leadership and innovation but also on looking after family. It was a fun episode to record, and I hope you have fun listening.
Thanks again to Gus for being part of the program - very much appreciated!
Many thanks also to my listeners - you don't get to 100 episodes without a loyal following and I am truly thankful and humbled that you take the time to download and listen to the program. On to the next milestone!
Cheers, AnthonySend us a text

This episode is a must listen! If you were raised on a diet of TV medical dramas like House, The Good Doctor, ER, Grey's Anatomy or any of hundreds of others, today's guest will help set the record straight!
Mainak Majumdar is the Director, Intensive Care Services, Mercy Hospital, in Werribee, Victoria and is my very special guest. In our discussion, we hear of how Mainak got into medicine (not his first choice!) and what led him to specialise in emergency / intensive care medicine.
Of most relevance to my audience, Mainak shares how he applies a risk management approach to running the Intensive Care Unit and leverages the power of his people to get the best possible patient outcomes.
This approach was recognised when in 2021, Mainak received the Public Sector Risk Leader of the Year award, presented by the Risk Management Institution of Australasia (RMIA).
This is a fascinating discussion and insight into the workings of a busy Intensive Care Unit - a big thank you to Mainak for so graciously sharing his time and expertise!
For those counting, you'll notice this is episode #99 - stay tuned next week when I'll launch our 100th episode in time for listening over the festive season break.

Hard to believe in this day and age that there are still organisations that don't get the importance of safety - for their own teams but also for visitors to their sites such as customers, contractors, delivery drivers etc.
Micheal Martin has 'been there and done that' in people safety and is a fantastic resource in this space. His consultancy, Proven Safety Solutions has provided advice across a number of industries.
Leadership is key to getting the right safety outcomes and Micheal strongly advocates for leaders to deeply understand the nature of work their people do in order to provide the right tone for safety in the business.
Enjoy listening to Micheal share his insights into what it takes to get this very important risk right!
Apologies for the audio quality in places.

Whilst the legislation is likely different in jurisdictions across the world, the requirements to prevent harm to employees is universal. And when things do go wrong and an employee is injured, there is an onus on the employer to help the person recover and get back to their previous lifestyle as soon as possible - including their job role.
Sometimes it proves fairly challenging, and this is where my guest for this episode comes to the fore. Rocio Luna is a seasoned commercial insurance producer with a specialised focus on the construction and staffing industries.
At Insurax, Rocio leverages her vast experience in managing workers' compensation claims, particularly within the stringent regulatory landscapes of California, Arizona, Texas, Washington, Nevada, and New York. She is well-versed in dealing with high Experience Modification Rates (EMRs), helping businesses struggling with frequent workers' compensation claims, general liability, auto, and employment practices issues.
Rocio's approach is deeply rooted in risk management. She provides tailored risk management programs aimed at reducing premiums for businesses with 25 or more employees, primarily targeting contractors and staffing agencies. Her expertise in cumulative trauma claims and state-specific workers' compensation laws has led to significant cost savings for her clients.
Rocio is not just an insurance provider; she positions herself as a strategic partner, bridging the gap between employers, insurance carriers, and the often-misunderstood workers' compensation system.
Whilst the laws vary, the principles Rocio shares in this discussion can be applied in almost any setting.

You've probably heard of the concept of 'the power of the crowd' - in this episode of the Mastering Risk Management podcast, we hear about it being put to good use to battle the scourge of our online world - cyber criminals & state-sponsored hackers.
Our guest is Philippe Humeau, Founder and CEO of CrowdSec an open source, multiplayer firewall that analyses visitor behaviour and provides adapted responses to all kinds of attacks. With more than 250,000 installations across in excess of 180 countries clearly, it's an approach that works.
You'll hear about Philippe's extensive experience, from the time he got 'fired' from school, right through to his articulation of the complex, not complicated, problem that is cyber security.
Every organisation is exposed to this risk - should your business be part of the group effort to minimise the impact of this crime? I commend you to listen to the episode before you answer!

This episode of the Mastering Risk Management podcast features Terry Dussault, Founder of Yellowknife Consulting Services, based in the beautiful Huntington Beach area of Orange County, California.
Terry has worked on some fascinating projects (take a look at his website here) where he has guided project team members to safe outcomes using his decades of experience.
Safety is a core risk for all organisations so this discussion is a great reminder of the things that leaders need to think about when considering the health and well-being of their people.

In this episode, Anthony reflects on the CrowdStrike incident that impacted millions of businesses and users across the globe.
He talks about what happened and what some of the key lessons that we can take away from the incident - including the importance of testing, ensuring backups are in place and working, clear, timely, and transparent communications and of course, the criticality of third-party risk management.
And lastly, what should organisations be thinking about in future to avoid a similar occurrence - Is our cloud strategy resilient, are our user devices fit for purpose / relevant to the operating environment, do we get the appropriate level of assurance from our service and hardware providers?
As we always say, never waste a crisis!Send us a text

Knowing who has access to your systems and that they have the right level of access is a key tenant of good cybersecurity hygiene. The challenge is that users forget their passwords or can't navigate the multifactor authentication (MFA) process - meaning a call to the Help Desk.
CEO of Nametag Inc, Aaron Painter talks to us about how organisations can save time, improve customer & employee satisfaction and enable the Help Desk to focus on key systems issues. The secret - utilising the technology we all have in our hands these days - our mobile phone!
Aaron talks us through the process (in plain English!) that Nametag has developed to make this time consuming and sometimes very frustrating verification task a thing of the past.
But don't take my word for it - have a look at their website and the demonstration videos - link is here.
This is a game changer for identity management - if your IT team are not listeners of the program, point them to this episode - they will thank you for it!Send us a text

What are you and your organisation doing to save the Earth?
It's a confronting question but one that my guest, John Pabon, has spent his life studying and then implementing change to make sustainability not only an ethical way forward for organisations, but also a commercially sensible one.
This is a fascinating discussion - John has advised companies, governments, and even individuals on how to capitalise on the benefits sustainability offers. He not only worked with the United Nations but continues to advise them to this day.
This has seen him work across the globe, including a 10-year stint in China. He is also the author of two books, the Chair of The Conference Board's Asia Sustainability Leaders Council and serves on the board of advisers to the U.S. Green Chamber of Commerce.
John's website is here - check it out for further details on his writing, speaking and consulting.Send us a text
