How many of you have a half-finished creative project just sitting there, waiting for you to come back to it? Maybe itâs a book, a painting, a business idea, or even something as simple as a scrapbook you swore youâd finish two years ago. (No judgmentâI have plenty of these, too.)
Starting a project? Thatâs the fun part. The ideas, the excitement, the this is going to be amazing energy. But finishing? Thatâs where things get tricky.
So today, weâre going to talk about how to actually finish what you startâeven when motivation fades, life gets busy, or perfectionism sneaks in.
Sound good? Letâs do this!

This week I sent out the monthly newsletter, and I felt the urge to include some scripture. So if you arenât subscribed, it was a list of 6 Bible verses to give you a bit of encouragement and purpose on your creative journey. Iâve been following the Bible reading plan daily this year after finding one I loved that a friend recommended to me. Itâs called The Bible Recap with Tara-Leigh Cobb. I also believe itâs a podcast, too. Itâs been really awesome diving into the scriptures as Iâm studying it and reading it all chronologically this year. God is, literally, the ultimate Creator. and He made us in His image. That means He designed us to be creative too, right?! Think about it that way. So today, I want to share some verses that will remind you of your purpose, your strength, and the encouragement we have in Christ as we create. Grab a pen and paper and letâs get started.
The Art of Motherhood NewsletterA fun, creative newsletter for moms who love books, art, and making things. Get personal updates, creative prompts, bookish chats, and a little encouragementâplus coffee talk, of course.

Weâre busting some creative myths that I know too many of us are still believing. We often hold ourselves back because of these myths. Creativity doesnât have to be perfect, and it certainly doesnât have to be this big, overwhelming thing. So, letâs dive in and challenge these myths, shall we?

Iâm not a poet. Iâve never taken a poetry class or really studied it much at all. (That said, I do have a small poetic claim to fame: I once had a haiku about coffee published in the Heartland Society of Women Writers. So, technically, Iâm a published poet!) But poetry isnât something I consider a regular part of my creative repertoire.
Still, Iâve always been intrigued by it. Thereâs something so powerful about capturing a thought, a feeling, or a moment in just a few words. And as a busy mom, I love the idea of expressing creativity in a way that doesnât take a lot of time. Thatâs why I decided to dedicate todayâs episode to something I think youâll find inspiring and accessible: one-liner poetry. Even if youâve never written a poem in your life, this might just spark a creative interest you didnât know you had.

It's been 3 years since I last had Jenny on the podcast!
Jenny Mouse is a mom of three from Ontario Canada. She had a hard time focusing on school and assignments when she was young and found learning about the brain very helpful. She wrote her first book Brian the Brain Head Space when she struggled to find high quality material about the brain for young kids. She believes that teaching children about their brain from an early age can help them reach their full potential.

When was the last time you tried something new in your creative life? And I donât mean just switching up your routine or tweaking something you already do. I mean trying something totally different. A medium youâve never touched, a style thatâs not âyou,â or even just a bold, scary idea that youâre not sure you can pull off.
If itâs been a whileâor if the thought makes you feel nervousâyou are not alone. Comfort zones feel... well, comfortable! Theyâre our safe spaces. And honestly, thereâs nothing wrong with leaning into what youâre good at and what you love. But staying there too long can leave you feeling stuck or uninspired. Thatâs why today, weâre diving into why stepping outside your creative bubble is so important and how you can do it without feeling overwhelmed.

After 17 years as a stay-at-home mom, Laura Rittman felt a bit lost when her daughter went off to college. Her husband reminded her of her dream to write a childrenâs book, and here she is, getting ready to launch Lucky Ruby! With a background in PR and event planning, sheâs excited to be on this new path as an author.
In this episode, Iâm chatting with the debut author of Lucky Ruby, a childrenâs book all about celebrating both Hanukkah and Christmas. The story follows Ruby, a little girl with both traditions, and her classmate Violet, who finds it a bit strange at firstâbut then realizes just how lucky Ruby is. Inspired by her own life with her Christian-Jewish family, the author hopes this book will help kids learn to appreciate and respect different family traditions and see that, at the heart of it all, itâs about family and love.Join us as we talk about her journey with Lucky Ruby, the beauty of blending traditions, and finding new purpose in this next chapter of life.

How far are you into your 50k words? Let's talk about how we can KEEP GOING!
Itâs that time of year again. And no, Iâm not talking about the holidays, Iâm talking about something very special that happens in November. Iâve attempted it myself yearly since 2019. And that goal is writing 50k words. In 30 days. And before you freak out too much, itâs not the finished, polished novel that youâre going to have done by the end of the month, rather just ugly, beautiful first draft. Novellas can range between 17-40k words, a lot of cozy mysteries I read are also in the 50k range, and if youâre writing a historical fiction or fantasy especially, you can be upwards of 150k words. But to set some sort of parameters for this, 50k is the goal.
