Abu Samra, the handsome dark one, is the name of a Palestinian heirloom wheat that was loved for its beauty and taste by many old Palestinian folks, but that was almost lost. Its memory was revived by Vivien Sansour, who runs the Palestinian heirloom seed library. Her love for this Palestinian natural heritage inspired musician Zaid Hillal to write a song. In this episode we speak about the importance of heirloom seeds and how young Palestinians reconnect to their identity through the revival of an old wheat. This episode includes the Abu Samra song.
Every episode ends with Louisa and Hadi, my Dutch-Palestinian children, teaching you something in Arabic!
