David Bernstein joined the City board in 1994 and became chairman with eight matches remaining of the 1997/98 season as we fell towards the third tier of English football.
Back-to-back promotions saw us return to the Premier League followed by relegation and another promotion before he left the Club in 2003.
He helped to put City back on a sound footing off the pitch and facilitated our move from Maine Road to what is now the Etihad Stadium.

Shaun Goater is the latest guest on the Official Manchester City podcast.
Goater represented the Club between 1998 and 2003, scoring 103 goals in 212 appearances.
Arriving at City when we were in the third tier, Goater’s goals were the driving force behind us re-establishing ourselves in the top-flight by the time of his departure.
In doing so, he became a firm fan’s favourite and is now considered a Club legend.
