Jake and Rick are joined this week by Astros pitching prospect Trey Dombroski to discuss his development through college and into professional baseball.
The group breaks down how Trey identified and played to his strengths as a pitcher, how the pitches in his arsenal work off of each other to attack hitters, and how the Astros player development philosophies have shown him new pitches, pitch shapes, and approaches.
Trey Dombroski was chosen in the 4th round (133 overall) in the 2022 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros. He is one of 10 MLB draft picks all-time from Monmouth University and has a chance to be the 4th player to make the big leagues from the school. He won Pitcher of the Year while playing in the Cape Cod League in 2021 and was named Astros Pitcher of the Year in 2023 by MLB Pipeline.
Dombroski led all of High-A pitchers in 2023 with 148 strikeouts in 119 innings pitched, which also set the single-season strikeout record for the Fayetteville Woodpeckers.

In this episode of On the Farm, Jake and Rick are joined by Drew Martinez, the Manager of the Dominican Summer League (DSL) Giants to discuss international player development.
The episode starts by getting Drew's background, and then Drew gives an overview of the DSL and its role in international player development. The group then discusses the day-to-day lives of players in the DSL and what the initial stages of development are.
From here they discuss the use of advanced data and analytics and the final stages of development in the DSL. To wrap up the discussion on the DSL, Jake and Rick ask Drew to give some managerial insight on the development of three specific players they're interested in.
In the final segment of the episode, the group discusses the Arizona Fall League, where Drew worked as a coach for the Scottsdale Scorpions in 2023. They talk about the environment and excitement of being involved in the AFL and which players stood out to Drew the most.
